It takes a couple years for drivers to realize they can’t be the center of attention while in the booth. I grew up a huge Gordon fan and I couldn’t stand him his first year in the booth but he turned it around and realized he was a color commentator/analyst, and he embraced it well. What a great race, and spectacular finish.
I was at the race, high up in turn 4. Atlanta is my home town track, so I go to both races every year. We like to call it A-tona.
Since the reconfiguration, this is the best track in NASCAR. The racing is always great, lots of action, passing, and great finishes.
Y'all come on down in September...I highly recommend it.

Say what you will about the number of cautions in this race, 30 cars finished with 22 on the lead lap, that’s more than most short tracks. A lot of single car spins and ‘big’ wreaks with little damage.

Only because NASCAR fans and especially SMI like to knee jerk react:
REMINDER, this race....and this track were this great because its UNIQUE, one of a kind! If you start trying to covert every 1.5+ track to this hoping the product matches this....a. it likely won't. And b. It will water it down. This track is PERFECT, but there is a such thing as too much of a good thing. The 2 Atlanta races a season are enough like this. Please please keep it unique by leaving Atlanta special like this.

man what a time to be a NASCAR fan. since the next gen came out we’ve had 3-4 races each year that fans have talked about being one of the best races ever, on every type of track. several amazing finishes and just all around consistent great racing. the personalities of the new generation of drivers are showing much more. NASCAR is more competitive than ever before. the cars look like their street car counterparts again. the cars have more modern street car and race car designs again. these are the modern glory days of NASCAR.

atlanta is my home track and i’ve gone with my family since i was a knee high to a grasshopper in the mid 2000s, at first and even now i have continued to miss the “old Atlanta”. regardless of being my home track it had so many features and characteristics that i loved.
but honestly new atlanta i might just love even more. it perfectly bridges the gap between speedway racing and superspeedway racing. basically what nascar spent the back leg of the 2010s trying to accomplish except it’s actually good.
i’ll always miss old atlanta and i’m sad that was the track that had to be sacrificed to get this, but on the other hand my 3-5th favorite track has now become 1 or 2
