  • Whipped rebatch soap "take 2". I'm using up all my soap shreds left over from beveling batches and batches of soap. This is a "no-waste" way to make every ounce of soap count 😉 #whippedsoap #soap #homemadesoap #recycle

    This would be a great way to make some masculine soaps! Maybe use a dark/midnight blue or even black shade and a strong masculine fragrance oil that would easily mask any leftover fragrances from the scraps. Wouldn't even bother piping on top. Just a rustic, manly bar of soap. It's an idea 🤣

    Thank you for showing how we can use scrapes of soap and not be wasteful. I remember my grandmother grating small dried bits of soap bars and melting them in hot water to wash woollen jumpers. We used a very plain soap and nothing was wasted in our house.
    Ps that colour is so pretty.

    I love the Victorian Rose color it came out. Beautiful! A tip perhaps, I add TD to my initial water to help lighten the batter, so when I add color, I get closer to what I am aiming for. I usually make whipped soaps with my scraps and then felt little animals around the bars, for the little kiddies. They're animals and they float and clean all at once. But love that you piped the top! Love these! 👍💕

    Ellen Ruth, you commented, when you were adding coloring, that you could use some help, suggestions.
    I will say, you did a fine job!
    Rebatching seems to be somewhat about the adventure that comes with the process.
    I will share what I used to do with rebatched scrap soap .
    1. I would add no color or scent. Make it into a loaf.
    Cut into chunks, squares or whatever shape.
    A) Then use in a complimentary new batch.
    Such as:
    a) make into mudroom soap bars, usually square or at least thick.
    These are great to wash hands, soap a rag to wipe off mud or dirt from boots. Or soap up a scrub brush to clean mudroom stuff, buckets, garden tools, etc.
    2. I would make into coffee garden soap bars. Add thick dark instant coffee, for scent & color Or add scent & color to resemble coffee. Coffee grounds are a great addition.
    3. Make into a activated charcoal bar soap color it gray, black, or other color with a swirl.
    Thank you.
    This turned out beautifully!

    when you mix green & pink scraps to rebatch - it turns the batter to ugly brown! I usually try not to mix those color scraps with the main bucket saved - and if there are any chunks of either color just remove 1 before starting to cook! Your soaps are always looking good Ellen - love your videos

      Last time I rebatched, my eldest daughter's stepchildren wanted some personalized soaps, so I gave them their choice/s...the girls chose "Elmo" molds and a hot cinnamon fragrance, but wanted it whipped...🙄 hubby and the one poor son of the bunch want something much more manly...so went with an evergreen scent and a a very light green, again well whipped, and THAT came out smelling like original Irish Spring scented with all the same tints of green and white streaks as that same original bar..and was sliced into squared bars, even better, having been whipped, they were allowed to cure for another extra 2 weeks given the weather gremlins that inhabit Southern Ontario...that particular soap rebatch ended up sealing the edges super well and DID actually float! Which all involved enjoyed, at least long enough to learn to get the bars out of the water and draining FAST! BECAUSE OTHERWISE IT MELTS JUST AS FAST AND QUICKLY DISAPPEARS down the drain...and despite Nanna's notes can't be easily replicated...so they were out of luck as far as replacement...🤷‍♀️😘 not intentional, but lesson well learned. And honestly, went a long way to keeping their natural grandmothers in a much less threatened frame of mind.👏👏🤷‍♀️🤪 and their natural MOTHER too. Sometimes being too good at the strangest things can wreak havoc for the oddest of reasons.
      My daughter actually thanked me for NOT warning them about the soap melting if not properly taken care of! I couldn't have, I didn't know either!
      Apparently "mom" was not entirely at ease with the new dynamic...and that was making for a few rough waves at times..between ALL members of the family.🥺

      Make sure your crumbly bar isn’t lye heavy! You could try re batching and adding more oil... or re batch and then set it aside for six months or so to give excess lye lots of time to cure out.
      Did you use sodium lactate or salt? That can cause crumbly texture!

    • @parkermcp
      @parkermcp 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thebadpoet Thank you. I've re-batched now and added some beeswax (that I forgot to add in the first time!) and poured into molds. THIS time it didn't crumble as bad-(just on the edges) but still isn't what I normal see. It might of been that the lye was hotter than the oils when I poured the first time. (Lye-120 /Oil 90) Or as you suggest- that it is lye heavy. I didn't have any Sodium Lactate- to add in-but did add in some milk just to be able to mix it- in the re-batch. This is the first time I've made Olive Oil soap- so I was thinking it was that I added a small amount of Avocado oil in the mixture- that is only were I deviated from the recipe-but kept the equations the same. I will try it all again!

      The coconut milk is just a fun additive, you don't need to add it.. There's a link for the stamp in the description box.

    I just tried this rebatching some of my soap and I find the bars have a sort of spongy rubbery consistency. Is this because they were whipped? It was my first time doing a hot process rebatch, I’m not sure whats normal!

    • @EllenRuthSoap
      @EllenRuthSoap  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They do feel a bit soft at first due to the extra liquid. If you let them dry out for several week, they're great. This technically isn't a HP, but a rebatch...

    Love your videos! I dont use fragrance nor coloring on my soaps so when they dry I have some of that soap ash, is alcohol enough to prevent it from happening? Or Im I going to have to use color to keep the soap pretty for sale? Also how can I make my soap last longer? I use mine to shower with and they last like a week. P.S. I would have used blue or green color on this soap you made I think that would have been easier due to the mix beeing a nit dark already.
    Love love your videos! Thank you!!

      Milcia Lopez if you use a water discount that should help with the ash on top. You can steam any ash off the soaps if you have a clothes steamer. Do you use soap Calculator for your recipe, you can check hardness of your recipe there and it needs 4-6 weeks cure time for CP soap which is where excess water leaves the bars

    • @EllenRuthSoap
      @EllenRuthSoap  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would double check your water amount. Also, you can steam or rinse off your loaf with hot water (then let it dry) before cutting, that will get all the ash off. Thanks for the color suggestion😘

    Hello! What does it mean a floaty soap? Please. Greetings from Argentina

    • @EllenRuthSoap
      @EllenRuthSoap  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you "whip it" enough it is very light and will float in the water and not sink😉

    If I were to make a rebatch soap with soap that came out chalky and crumbly would I add more oils and water to correct it?

    • @EllenRuthSoap
      @EllenRuthSoap  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you did a pH test and it’s not lye heavy, you can just add a bit more water or glycerin.

    I came across your channel and my last batch I swapped olive oil for almond oil and it turned out a bit soft so if I rebatch them do you have any advice

      Olive and Almond have different SAP values, I would check the pH, if it's good then rebatching should be fine👍

    What happens if you do add a bit too much fluid - it would whip much better no? And won't it just evaporate anyways? Just curious...I'm so new at soap making still.

    • @EllenRuthSoap
      @EllenRuthSoap  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you add too much liquid, it just takes longer to dry out. My earlier rebatch video shows that.. The soap was fine, but it needed to sit much longer.

    • @EllenRuthSoap

      You could use any powder, like goat milk or even buttermilk powders... The liquid would work great, just sub the water for it, so it doesn't get too wet..
