Oh my God! you are a replica of me buying and creating packaging. The difference is I don't sell I have a huge pile of soap of different kind, LOL. I really love your videos, very well explained it. Thanks for your time and share your knowledge.
Thank you for sharing this, Ellen. 🥰 I made your other shaving bars / pucks, and I loved them. It is time for me to make more, so I will probably make these this weekend! Thanks again, and God bless you and your family. 🙏
Love this recipe will definitely try this.I so love your little cups, what a great idea for the shaving 🧼. My Dad always used Old Spice for shaving havent seen that in such a long time.Thank you Ellen for sharing 😊xx
Ellen thank you so much for this recipe along with tips. You never disappoint. Also I love your joyous smile and warm personality. Your channel is right up there as Number One for me. 🎉❤😊
I made Amy's shaving soap recipe, but I sub the coconut oil for tallow. I have friends who have a farm and the gave me some beef tallow. It's a great recipe.
Gotcha...Thank you so much! Im only making a 1000g batch and normally I can figure this out but I was stumped on this for some reason. 🤪 I appreciate your quick response. Have a Happy Thanksgiving ❤
I call the stuff you used for a liner "fun foam" (which is a brand I think, like tissues are kleenex) or "craft foam sheets". It's so useful for so many things around the house, too, haha.
Ooh, this sounds so luxurious! I'll have to save this recipe to try later. It has some new ingredients that I have never tried before. Side question, if I wanted to add tussah silk to lotion, how would I melt the fibers? Because I know that the silk melts with lye, but you don't usually add lye to lotion.
Enjoyed spending time with you again today. Thanks for the informative and entertaining video. I'm out of shaving soap, so I'll give this one a try. I may switch up the fragrance for a woman's soap. As I'm relistening, I'm wondering about your comments about setting the puck on its side while drying. Does the soap in the cup dry as well or does it have a shorter life?
That's a really good question, I find the "free standing" soaps last longer with better air circulation but the mug soaps seem to last even longer... I just tip the cup and make sure any standing water is drained, then let it sit.
Hi. I'm new in soap making. I love your videos. I just have one question. What is natural preservative you are using in your soap. I want to learn to make soap and for my family and friends but I am trying not to use harsh chemicals aside from lye water. Thank you in advance.
Have you ever tried to make a shave soap using beer? I love how my beer soap lathers but was wondering if you or anybody has tried to make a shave soap such as this with beer. Thank you
Hey Ellen The recipe you shared says it's a 28% lye solution soap but the recipe says 2.6 x the lye. Should that be 2.8? I just wanted to make sure I was calculating that correct. And...do you weigh the oils and butters after the cook then add the glycerin at 10 %? I don't want to mess it up.😁 Thank you so much ! I absolutely love watching you ♥️
Hi Ellen, how r u? I follow u here and love your videos . I made the shaving soap. I did half of the recipe that u posted here last weekend. I am letting it cure for the 4 weeks. My soaps r a little sticky. As it dries, does it goes harder? Just want to make sure I did the right way . Thanks a lot 😊
Good morning! I have just purchased all my things to make this recipe, my first time ever. I noticed in the written recipe you cut the batch in half except the water. You used 37 oz in the full but reduced to 17.7 oz in the written. Do you mind telling me why? Thank you!
Hello, I'm from Brazil and I'm studying natural soapmaking. Here we have little content to study and I would like to understand why you (from abroad) don't do the pH test on your soaps when you produce them for the videos? I ask this because I would really like to produce this shaving soap here, but due to the saponification process, the pH becomes super high for the face and can cause a reaction on many skin types. I have a reaction on my facial skin when I use saponified soap on my face. What is the ph of this soap you are teaching (the shaving soap).. can you tell what its ph is? Thank you for your content, it's great. A big hug, Maíra.
hi, i'm trying this recipe using goat milk instead of water, but it hardens so fast i don't even have time to put into the molds, what could be causing this? the milk? did 2 batches, first at 140ºF and second at 120ºF, if it were colder my oils started to harden again
@@EllenRuthSoap well, I made a batch with distilled water, just as you, it went perfect I discovered the milk burns when I put the lye and then it speeds up the hardening process, so I made a batch with almost frozen milk and it went pretty good at 140°f without burning, the lye even dissolved just like in water but I think I burned the milk again when mixed with my oils that were at about 180°f and made a little volcano on my pot the secret is not burn the milk
Wow!! So pretty! You do a marvelous job of explaining, and your packaging is absolutely fantastic!! Five stars for sure!!!

It makes such great soap, you should give it a go💗
All I can say is Ellen we are the best

Ordered one of these today! Can't wait to try it out.
Thank you! Hope you love it.
Can hardly wait for these to be back in stock. Do you put aloe vera juice in these or just distilled water?
I’m loving your videos I can’t get loofa to grow maybe next year ❤
I love the packaging ideas!! ❤

For lotion I would recommend a liquid silk.
So good ❤ thank you 😊
It looks divine 🧼
Thanks❣️
Would it be possible to use the heat transfer method for this? Love your video! Thank you! I would love to try this.
The stearic acid has such a high melting point, it might be hard to get a complete melt on it..
@@EllenRuthSoap Ah…that makes sense! Thank you.
Thank you Ellen ... lovely shaving bars❤... hope you wont mind me asking ... what is the shade of your lipwear? i love the color... thank you ❤❤❤❤😊
Thanks! It's MAC Fresh Brew with a plumper gloss over top🥰
@@EllenRuthSoapAwwwweeee thank you Ellen ❤
No one in my household shaves, but this soap makes me wish I did! Hahaha.

I love the pvc mold. Do you have a video on that or… what size (3” 4”?) and what do you use for a cap? It doesn’t look like anything I recognize.
I used a 3" PVC for this, and just sat it in a cup with a tiny bit of MP to make a seal around the bottom.
Hello Ellen! Could you please tell me when your chocolate lavender soap will be available on your website? I don't wanna miss it!
It will be available this upcoming week 👍
I'm baaack :) ... I'm looking at purchasing a good speed soap wire cutter. What is the wire width for your model? Thank you, again :)
Mine are set at 1.25"

I don't use a preservative in soap making.
Awesome Ellen. Have you ever made a foam shaving cream ? If you have please share.
Love from GA ❤❤❤
I haven't made a foam one yet..
Have you ever tried to make a shave soap using beer? I love how my beer soap lathers but was wondering if you or anybody has tried to make a shave soap such as this with beer. Thank you
I haven't, but I tell you what, it would make a wonderful shave soap 🍺❣️
Can you use aloe Vera drink in place of the water as in one of your other recipes? How about the hemp oil? Thanks!
Yes, the aloe juice is a fabulous sub for water in any soap👍
@@EllenRuthSoap thank you so much!
@@EllenRuthSoap can you add the hemp oil or will it mess with the recipe?
Hey Ellen

I measure before the cook 👍 and the 28% is the liquid volume total, the lye measurement is correct 😉
Can a person use clay as a slicking agent instead of glycerin? Should one be used over the other? Or can both be used?
I do use clay in my CP shave soap and love it. But I've gotten feedback from some "wet shavers" that clay can dull the razors edge.

They should harden up well, during the cure.
@EllenRuthSoap ok, thank u .
How long does the shave cup last? How many shaves approximately?
Several months at least😉

In the video I'm making a double batch.
Is the 29% added to calculator as percentage of oils to water, or lye concentration?
Water to oils %
Any clue if it’s possible with goat’s milk? Or would it scald too easily through the “hot” processing?
I don't know, I've not tried it..
Do you not add benonite clay to your shaving bars anymore?
Not to this recipe, I have a CP recipe that I do add it to.
Where do you get the stainless steel mugs at in bulk?
Here's the link: amzn.to/3rnRh0R
How many is several weeks in your part of the states?
More than 2🤣

A good soap pH is between 8-10, I shoot for 9 which is what most of my soaps come out to.
What is the funtion of the double lye?
It creates a bit softer soap with a very dense lather.

Yes👍

I can’t figure out how to do the math for a 20 ounce batch of this for Lye. Can someone help me figure out the math?
