    Legendary performer.
Most of his contemporaries are long gone.

The concert at Nakano Sun Plaza hall,I was there with my friends.
Sonny brought his family member as a percussionist I remember
    St.Thomas was the closing tune.
We spent really goodtime listening his awesome sounds

Sonny Rollins has been the greatest saxophone improviser in the world. I feel so lucky to have heard him play in concert several times. It is always a thrill. He is just so full of ideas! It's too bad his manager didn't want him to play with more eminent players. Also, yeah, the electric bass thing is really a drag.

Sonny's manager doesn't determine anything regarding who he plays with.

Nice tune , good piano solo, but wasn't there a double bass player ? I don't like electric bass , sorry .

Why is the trombonist always being treated as a "Rollinian" cheer-cargo, and not as the capable and serious artist who he is?

I share your concerns, but Sonny Rollins has gotten to the point in his career that he can do anything with his bands that he pleases, and the bandmen can either go with it or not. Sonny has done great work for the last 30 years with Ray Anderson and Bob Cranshaw, but in my opinion the last time he had real creative equals in the band was in the mid-60s with Don Cherry, Henry Grimes, and Billy Higgins. Still, I want to say as strongly as I can, Sonny Rollins deserves to do whatever he wants to.

@@nathanwyatt7748 Thanks, Nathan. I'm always reluctant to post TH-cam comments, but I figured this was pretty safe! Incidentally, I've heard that the Don Cherry band included Edward Blackwell, perhaps my favorite drummer, briefly. Wow. Of course, there's the band he got together for East Broadway Run Down, but that wasn't his working band. I hope Sonny is happy and healthy...
