  • Hello and welcome back
In this episode I assess doors, drivers RH door continues to amuse and irritate in equal amounts.
I strip the RH door down to basics and assess what is required to rebuild it
Projects like this are like eating an elephant! How exactly do you eat an elephant? One bite at the time, and you will get there
My "original" brief is to sort the running gear, axles and brakes. Then the car will move onto another specialist for bodywork.
    Enjoy

Suggestion for rotten and damaged aluminium door skins? Save the centre indented section ( hard to accurately replicate) and glue on flush new aluminium sheet, with angled backing strips, to replace panels below and above (rarely needed).
Keep close to swage lines for straight rigid join. Pre fold the clamping edges to 90 degrees.
If vehicle model has side rubbing strips, hide the join behind them and rivets can be added.
    Done this with sucess.

I needed a replacement front driver door for my 87 RR. Finely found a complete 89 for half the price of a door.

That L profile looks very much like the L profile for the bottom of the front door seals , could just use one of those as a replacement.
Always impressed with how you salvage frames .

Machinor are meant to be releasing repair panels soon for these doors

Personally I would fabricate a full end section for the hinge part.clamp it in place then spray a light coat of paint were the square holes for the hinges are and this will give you the location so they can be drilled and filed square.
It will be a better repair and not much more work.
This is my opinion so feel free to tell me to bugger off,I won't be offended.😁😁😁

I did it like that last time. In this case however the outer shell sections around the hinge holes were unusually sound

What do you use for removing the paint

In this case a zip wheel on an angle grinder, where more gentle approach is needed on steel I use a prep wheel.
For any of the outer panels I use a random orbital sander
