    Great info on speed I can’t believe how many guy start cutting up their leaders instead of adjusting their speed.

    I still do Longer and shorter fly leaders. Simply because i can adjust action on the flies without changing a speed thats working on a spoon or meat rig too.

      There is many ways to skin a cat. Your strategy requires unlimited amounts of flies or constant re-tying which I am sure works but not realistic for most

    Nice info with the flashers and flies! Need to shorten my leaders after watching your video! What color flasher is that in this video? Is it a Salmon Candy Flasher? Thanks!

    Thanks Russel! I was aware of Addya hooks and they are also big in the saltwater market. Very glad that you are transitioning to them! Have you ever ran tournament rigs? Snell a stinger#4 hook above the treble. I was missing fish so I rigged some up and had very good success for a couple of weeks but then the traditional setup seemed to do better again after that time frame.

      I prefer the 1 Treble
      Hook setup myself. I have played with the tournament rig as commonly known but feel most of the time the single hook gets in the side of the fish and the fish end up putting a tremendous amount of unneeded pressure on ur equipment

      I exclusively tournament tie. personal preference. I use a Size 2 Hercules king salmon special and 4/0 gamakatsu salt water octopus hook. No knots, snell the hooks. Knots are the weak point by snelling you eliminate that. Guys run into knot snapping issues if you tie the rear treble on

    just subscribed. Relative newbie to salmon fishing. If have 6 flasher flies out and run 2 different length leaders between left and right side of the boat will that not tell me what the fish what quicker then bringing all 6 lines in to switch leader lengths that are the same? Do you have a store open to the public as well?

    What about a 6in sting doctor how long would you run a leader behind it with a fly?

  • @joshsopczak1
    @joshsopczak1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Russell- Would you prefer a 24" leader running at a lower speed or a 26" leader at a slightly higher speed? We have a 20ft boat with only an IO, so it can be very hard to get our speed down below 2.2. I've used drift socks to slow us down below base speed of our engaged motor. However, it would be easier for me to get slower action via a slightly longer fly leader. At what point is slower speed more important than lengthening a leader when presenting fly action?

    • @RussellsFishingTech
      @RussellsFishingTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would prefer then you likely go with a 26” lead if u can’t slow down. With that said have you tried trolling bags? They are awesome

    • @joshsopczak1
      @joshsopczak1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RussellsFishingTech Tried them late last year and did have a positive effect. Use two, and each slows me down apx .25 to .5 mph. Thus, I can take off up to 1 mph. I do currently use 26" leaders for all my flies, as well... so I'm on the right path. My captain (10 yr old daughter) and I look forward to coming up from Racine for some shopping in TRS Sheboygan!

    What size flasher do you recommend with the 24 inch Salmon Candy Leader?

    The rabbit ears you make on the leader loop looks like a girth hitch, if you care to know the terminology haha 🤙 as with all of your videos, great information! Thanks!

    Are you going to be carrying the Addya hooks at the store for sale? They are hard to find. Guys on the eastern end of Lake Ontario have been using these hooks for a while now.

  • @magwamagwa45110

    I do not use that loop knot at all I tie a 80LB swivel to the leader and snap that onto the snap at the back of the flasher nothing gets off..... nothing to break.I also do not use treble hooks anymore because of that gap I use big river singles now and will not ever go back my catch to loose ratio is up over 20%... try it sometime..

    I might be crazy but if I need to put a fresh leader on and I have a fish in the box I’ll put the fresh leader in fishes mouth for a time before I put it in the water. OCD
