I know this is an old video, but I want to thank you for posting this. I am now thankfully a Florida resident, I have never done this type of HR 218 qualification, I was nervous about the qualification, where I'm from we used different terms and positions. Seeing this video before I went through it made me much more relaxed. I've been retired from The Job for more than 20 years, and I used my trusty 38. I got 39 out of 40, the one I missed, hit the elbow which did not count.
I ran the corrections course of fire not even six months before you posted this. We started at 25 and went in, used a barricade at 15 yards and had a 48 round course of fire. That's so weird that people who barely have a sidearm have to be better shots than the ones who always have them. I wonder if our shotgun and AR courses were the same.
@@jerrymccormick9019 I was saying I wonder if the security course of fire for both was the same as the FDLE one for corrections and law enforcement. The 48 round course of fire is for sidearms.
Liked the video, thanks for showing it, I'm going to have to qualify next month for my HR 218. Take it from a 30 or so year LEO instr.....SLOW Down, 45 sec for 12 rds and 30 sec for 6 rds isn't a race. You breezed through the 12 in 14 sec and 6 in 7 sec, you're wasting time that you could spend on good sight alignment. Your're not alone trust me, it's one of the biggest problems with qualifications.
Just qualified this morning, the full course I had was the following: Two targets 25 yards 6 rounds from cover (3 on target 1,3 on target 2)(from holster/draw) 15 yards 12 rounds from cover (3 on 1,3 on 2,reload,3 on 1,3 on 2)(from holster/draw) 7 yards 12 rounds (1st course of fire- ready gun/low ready, 3 shots on 1, the the same on 2) (2nd course of fire- from holster/draw,1on 1, 1 on 2 X3) (3rd course of fire-from holster/draw,2 on 1 X3) 3 yards 6 rounds (from ready gun,2 on 2(double tap)X3) in one second 1yard 6 rounds (from holster,2 on 1 from the hip) X3 this guy had decent hip shooting. But hold your shirt collar with your support hand(the one not holding the gun) and put your elbow up. Remember to breathe and keep your mind on the next shot not the one you just fired. You can not take back a bullet from your gun just got the next one.
Wow those are some seriously lax times. Applying for academy soon and was curious about pistol qualifications... sounds like it'll be a piece of cake for anyone who has shot a bit before.
You're scooping your draw every time. Get the pistol up near your eye-target line as early as possible in the drawstroke and then push it out toward the target. That will allow you to start indexing the pistol on the target earlier. Also, watch in Stage Four how your shoulders come back sequentially with each shot. With a 9mm, that shouldn't be the case. Get your weight move forward.
Andreas has been telling me about my "scoop" for years, too. Thanks for the feedback. I guess I need to setup a camera for some dry fire so I can fix that.

The qualification course per FDLE used to be the 48 round course from the 25yard in but they recently cut the 15 and 25 yard string
@@reecephillips5463 just did mine this morning. It’s still the 48 round course
Just completed the academy. FDLE requires the 48 round course of fire

Does the first have to be from the hip, or is the point shooting from "retention"? More directly, could I use the thumb/pectoral index instead?
From the hip and you have to have your non gun hand on your vest.
Idk why it doesn’t go back to 25 yards lol
Most police shooting incidents occur within 7 yards.....If you are at 25 yards, odds are you will be behind cover....

@@jerrymccormick9019 4 years in now, the Qual is a joke to be honest. Embarrassing that some people still don't pass it

***** you're going to listen to Claude??? ;)
Question: why wouldn't the 5 zone on the target extend down to the groin? The groin is a critical area, too!!!! Just curious!!!!
They don't train people to aim for the groin.
What's the name of the timer he is using and where can I get one?
Easy… this for retired? Dang crazy they don’t go to 25 yards
No barricade involve on the 15 yds?
