If you ask me getting married is extremely selfish, you basically are claiming ownership over another human being. Same with having children oh, many people have children who are not financially or emotionally ready and their children will lead terrible lives.

    • @Drain_Life_Archive
      @Drain_Life_Archive 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

"Sign this form that benefits ONLY ME at your expense or YOU are selfish." That's the logic being hurled at men. Children are even worse. If you want custody, you better have a vagina, because people with those win 85% of cases. I always suggest a man to adopt his own kid if he wants one so he has guaranteed custody no one can later take away from him. All the orphanages full of abandoned kids have ensured that a man doesn't even need a woman to have a kid. If he creates his own, he is taking a huge risk of the mother taking it away from him. And he'll have to PAY HER for 18 years as well. It's much safer for a man to just adopt. So bottom line for men today is, no reason to get married, no reason to reproduce.

I chose not to marry or have kids. I own my own house and car. I am not in debt . I have my profession . I’m independent.
A lot of people my age are now getting divorced since their kids are in college, etc. Many are financially ruined. It isn’t all sunshine and roses doing what ‘society expects of you’ which is to get married and have kids.

I come to Josh for real talk about the bitter truth that your company don't give a crap about you and your goal, and you hang around for mutual interest. It is a breath of fresh air in a industry where everyone expects you to have undying passion and expects you to grind your personal well-being away for extra productivity that disproportionately profits them over you.

Unsolicited stranger's experience: Bad friends are easier to cut off because you can do the slow fade or quick release. Either way a blocked number or change of address is the best way to go if they're too much. I usually wait years before even revealing my address nowadays.
Start with the obvious stuff like being put down and discouraged from following dreams. They can be pragmatic and ask questions about the reality of accomplishing things. If they tell you you just can't do things because you're too stupid or something subjective then it's time to cut the line.
Lots of self-reflection and strong boundaries are needed on your part. Sometimes you feel most comfortable being treated like shit because of your past so you have to know your triggers too.
As well as a watchful eye. Just like Josh's wife flipped friends can do that too and you need to see if it's a pattern or a bad day. Seeing how they act around other people and when others are not watching is important.

I’m married in the common law, and I support choosing not to get the paperwork. I’ve been with my partner for 8 years, and I truly feel that the legal paperwork can take all the fun out of it. My husband and I never did the legality stuff and we get mistaken for early 20s. He’s almost 40, and I’m 33. It’s better for us to not do the draining, unromantic paperwork, and I feel that if you haven’t been together long enough to receive common law status, you can’t say you are ready for marriage. I’m glad you learned early that the whole marriage model isn’t for everyone.

I'm in my late 40's. I was married for about a decade, with 2 children. I can't say I married too young. I had a rough childhood with an abusive parent. After years of therapy I THOUGHT I was OK and knowing what I really want and need. It turned out wrong. I married an extremely abusive and narcissistic woman, which only came clear a couple of years after we got married.
It's been several years since we separated and I have been alone since. Not even a single date. I can't say I am too happy. I'm still a man, I'm not made out of stone. I see beautiful women out there and couples and it does pinch my heart. but I am very weary of getting into a relationship again, for the following reasons:
I've been so hurt and abused, something in me just broke and I feel it can't be fixed. I cannot bring myself to trust women OR myself again.
I'm a very sensitive person, I can't just DATE. Even in my 20's I rarely dated just for sex/fun, things need to have a meaning. The family unit had a very big value for me, and now it is broken. Forever. I believe not by my fault, but it still makes me feel ashamed. I know many divorced people go out on the market, date, *uck like crazy and have fun. That's just not me. I really can't.
I am very weary of bringing a new woman into my life, out of genuine concern for my kids. She'll have to get along with my children, maybe she'll have children of her own. I DON'T want to be one of those mixed families, I can't be a father to a child that isn't mine, I cannot take the place of his father and any potential woman cannot be the real mother of MY children.
This world has become very cynical and cruel. We live in a post-feminist society. Women today assert their power over men - which is fine to an extent - but when just a word to the police is enough to get you arrested and removed from your home for weeks without repercussions on false claims, when everything is replaceable, tinder dates are like consumer products... I don't want to be a part of that world. Men especially today are being dealt a very raw deal and stand a lot of lose for bringing a woman into their life.
I agree love is a beautiful feeling, and I've been there for a while. It is the elixir of life and probably the best thing you will experience in this life. But sometimes, things just get so broken you can't turn back. Any woman that comes into my life in the future will have to be a proper angel. Very slim chances of that happening and I'm not sure I even want that.
Sorry for the TLDR (but if you got here, you DID read - so thank you).
I'm sure many men here (and women) can relate.

A woman does not exist to be a man's "perfect angel" - she exists for herself and her own ambitions and dreams just like a man. Why should only men get to have the career and the control - I watched my mother growing up, she was the old frumpy housewife who had to do all the drudge work while my father controlled the money and her. I swore I would never be the Slave to any man. Women don't need sex like men do - we can be single and be fine. We aren't ruled and destroyed by our genitals.

@@christineb.8475 Dear Christine, you are making a very jarring inclusion about all men which is just wrong. Nobody should be ruled by nobody, man or woman.
Also, as a man who has been through all this mess above and otherwise, I have been totally alone for the past 3 years (and not looking nor dating at all, I'm done) , I occasionally enjoy female company which is strictly friendly and I only got intimate with one single woman in all this time, Once. My ears didn't fall off, I didn't go crazy and I havn't started climbing the walls. I am very much ok alone, you'll be amazed to know I am not 'led by my crotch' and there are tons of men like me out there . I have every good reason to label women as golddiggers and fickle - I don't. So by the same token, don't you make all men sex crazed 'dogs'. You know better. I wish us all peace of mind.

Successful caring and generous men would prefer to come home to their loving wives instead of an empty house that’s all run down with childrens or their own messes cause she’s gone working all day like him.
Good men want to take care of you as long as you are worthy in the traditional sense. *SELFISH EVIL MEN* are none of these things!

I have been through 5 divorces with family. Most people need to find themselves before they even think about marriage. Most people have no idea who they really are inside. How do you find yourself? Time. Marriage was designed by lawyers for lawyers. It is a legal criminal organization.

    • @abab201
      @abab201 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

You're sentence about finding yourself first, that's the key to everything, but nobody tells us this, nobody, and here we all are, dating, not even knowing who we are, putting on heirs, and learning the hard way

    • @joebloggs619

@@joebloggs619 I used to think people were stupid who get married divorced that many times; well it's not my call, maybe they are maybe they aren't.
But I stopped judging because I've known some very nice people who after 3 divorces said never again and then just dated until they died lonely and alone, and others who kept marrying divorcing and finally met someone they're happy to have married and it works for them, they've been together for couple decades and happy.
The problem with your comment, and I can say this because I used to think the same thing is, you believe that they should only get married X times because X is right and more than that is "unreal"..
The problem with that is there's the right X and then there's reality.
Reality is... everyone has their own path, and we don't know all the ups and downs ins and outs hurts and joys that shape someone to be the way they are.
I'm not telling you what to do, but I'll tell you I don't judge people who get married "too many times" anymore; they have their reasons, they might even be stupid, but it's not my call/business to label their choices unreal because we all make stupid decisions, but we decide to make a big deal out of some and act like others are totally fine.
These days with feminism, cancel culture, the decline and evisceration of manly men, the rise of manly women who are never happy/satisfied, it's a literal miracle anyone can stay happily married, to me that's unreal, whereas before I would have wholeheartedly agreed with you.

I made the same mistake and also planned on never getting married (my GF is of the same mindset) but I'm getting older and have needed medical help that would have bankrupted me without insurance. Long story short I wanted to chase my dream but it meant taking jobs with no insurance the GF recommended we get married so she could add me to her insurance so after living together for 11 years we got married. We have been married for years and have no issue's but I think the key was we knew each other and didn't enter it with any plans on anything changing. So it worked for me but I wouldn't recommend marriage unless you have lived with your other for 8 or more years, unfortunately, marriage is often pushed by people that think you should get married before you even know the other.

You're smart bro, marriage is suicide for men today. My dad has been married to my mother for 34 years, I watched my dad bust his ass day in and day out working to support his family. My mother was never happy with herself, she ends up divorcing my dad and took 60% of what he owns. She also takes half of his pension and she gets 4 of his houses that he worked so hard to gain throughout his time saving and working as a contractor. She divorced rape the hell out of him, never seen my father so broken ever in my life.
Not only that my college bro just got divorced, not only does his wife keep the house, the kids, child support, and alimony. She also moved the man she was sneaking around with into the home. So as long as she dont get remarried, she can still collect alimony, while she can sleep with any man she wants. So my college bro is financing her, while she has another man in his house around his two kids. Until family and divorce court is fair for men, then its fucking stupid as a man to get married.
I am a single father raising a daughter, the only blessing is the fact that my baby mom give our daughter to me without a fight and I have full custody and haven't heard from her ever again. Joshua you are smart bro!

Long term relationships are hard though. It’s not really a ‘marriage’ issue. People are complicated, have needs, change in so many ways, and go through huge life altering events. As time goes on, it is always going to be a grind. Also, if you are going into a long term relationship thinking that you are not close enough to share your money, there’s no hope. It’s good to realise that you’re selfish, but really, that’s the main reason your relationships are going to fail. You HAVE to put the other person ahead of you at least some of the time (and expect that in return).
