I really enjoyed this game in high school and I remember being excited when I heard they were making a sequel. Then I found out it involved zombies or something and never went near it. Around this time period there were a few Vietnam War games released on PS2 and XBOX. ShellShock, Conflict: Vietnam, Men of Valor, and I believe there was one more. They were janky as hell, but fun at the time.
Your supposed to hate Psycho. It’s a game about Nam and rated mature. Then he finally dies. Just like in movies where they make you hate a character then they meet their demise.
my dad had this game on the ps2 when i was little and i have nothing but fond memories of it. i’m sure it’s 90% nostalgia but i LOVED this game. i actually jus ordered a copy of this game off ebay for my ps2.
That's awesome! There are definitely some games that people hate and I have strong Nostalgic for. Looking back I think I would change some things about this review, but it's awesome people like you still comment. Thanks!!
Also it’s always dope when games back in the day would drop little Easter eggs paying homage to other movies or games. Nobody was a hater back then and though “oh they ripped off full metal jacket!” Nope, me and my friends were excited and laughing when we’d notice.
I agree I do enjoy homages, but sometimes I can get tired of them. All subjective! Lol, it's art, but I do enjoy that you, and others actually like the game. It's always fun to hear other people's stories and opinions!
I saw this game reviewed in an episode of X-Play back in the day and they tore it a new one. But me? I love Vietnam era war games and knew I had to have it. I was addicted to this game and loved the mood and settings. Still have my copy.
"We gonna get you, G.I.!" Apparently this game had a troubled development cycle and the final product is completely different from how the developers envisioned the game, as an anti-war game. I still like it, I just wish we could have seen what the game was originally meant to be. Also, it has a sequel involving Vietnam and zombies. It's absolutely bizarre.
I am curious how the video game would have panned out if the developers had more time. We can only dream. Oh yeah I have seen the sequel. It is..... interesting.
This was an unfair and frankly bad review The game feels like Nam. And was creative in many areas. The details are lovingly put in and the brutality in this game on both sides is very accurate. Goes to show opinions are always different.
So the chopper having gunners fire while you’re in the helicopter is ripping off FMJ?? That’s a really dumb take. They had gunners for a Reason. Thats a military fact not a movie trope
Think of it like this: don't take the story or mechanics too seriously. Just enjoy the mash up of all the Vietnam War stereotypes from Hollywood and pop culture being put into a box and see how they'd react in the writers' bleak interpretation of war. It actually made for some good unintentional commentary on the legacy of the war itself. I think, if anything, it turns the game into a type of unironic satire that pokes fun at those stereotypes and myths made up of the war by those who never fought it. :)
My mum would make my dad hide this from me as a kid, probably 8-9. The menu music is still in my head to this day and I know all the words. I found the game box and played when I could until one day I got caught lol. Awesome game. Replayed it recently, I would like something similar made.
I don’t recommend you “run right through” the mines lmao. This is a part of the old games. A little bit of struggle. Struggle through disarming the mines. Much more interesting game experience that way.
This game was great when it first came out idk man this review is kinda cap, I beat it no prob when I was a kid and these graphics were the shit back then
@@fuckcommunism4222 I owned it like a long time ago but my dad turn it in at game stop *face palm* bro I was hot, recently I. Got that shit off Amazon lol it's as good as I remember 😎 P.S. Nice username 🤘
I definitely enjoyed this game when it first came out and I remember seeing it advertised in a magazine (I think it was FHM) and was eagerly waiting for its release. I remember ending it on all levels and my only complaint was that I wish the game was a lot longer. Back then it seemed like every war game that came out had to do with WW2 but this one was one of the first to tap into the Vietnam conflict. I give the game a thumbs up. It wasn’t perfect but I enjoyed it nonetheless. 👍🏾
All of the characterization of a piece of Critical war media...Without any of the criticism. Like a cocktail book of which drugs pair well when dissolved in milk sold using the license of "A Clockwork Orange".
This review really left me; shocked to say the least.
I appreciate the bombastic reply

Si, el otro videojuego se llamaba Vietcong: Purple Haze
it was these games and also brothers in arms

And in a weird way. Even though I didn't like him, I still didn't want him to die. I felt just that much more alone afterwards

Ahh i miss getting into a firefight with the vc in the rice paddy than going into there village and murdering everything. @madretro

Thats awesome! And yeah X-play had the tendency to do that lol
Shell shock was a masterpiece even more than any modern cod or most games in general
10:51 This made my headache worth it. I'm glad I wasn't alone.
Oh yeah it is definitely headache inducing

Couldn't finish it one of the levels would freeze after a ambush in the same area everytime
Sounds like a skill issue. Have you tried heating the game up with steam?
Same happens to me too could never finish it
i liked Kowalski's fate because he honestly looked pitiful, which was a fitting end for his brash and violent nature.
Yeah, not wrong at all! It's a good ending. Just sometimes wished he had more depth, but maybe I'm asking to much 😅

I didn't think about it like that. Pretty smart!! Thanks for the food for thought :)

That's awesome! The same game experience for me was The Godfather game. I also would agree on wanting something similar.
I loved this game

No jokes! This game was my favorite when I was a kid…💀

Hope it helped 🤣
8:29 I was stuck for like 10 minutes I won't lie.

back when there was still game rentals , I probably rented that game enough times to be able to buy it twice lol still fun to this day

This game is the best war game of its time.

My gramps got me this game for my 7th birthday…..mom made me return it
That is a huge blow! At least you got to experience it a little when you were young
Geh-tow-bach-yah!

I like the analogy! A good way of putting it.
What's the game on 3:25
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (2009)
This was a awesome game had it on ps2
Sorry but I disagree, Shellshock has a horrid combat system with a really unintuitive AI in my honest opinion. It also replicates recoil horribly.
