Paul, Thank you !! Your video back in the day about HOKS was the moment when I started to take LEAN seriously and started to study it.

I love how kaizen gives people eagle eyes (big picture) and microscope (small details) and my view from experience is that it helps to get people from a conditional limited self based view (not reality) to a selfless view (closer to reality) and in turn it becomes both an outer and inner awareness philosophy / useful practice in so many ways. Thank you Kaizen and thank you Paul for your amazing videos :)

Mr Akers, as I watch this I can see that people do not FULLY understand how powerful LEAN is, I use many principles in my day to day life, at work, home etc, and I have had people ask me if I were some kind of a magician or something. I use LEAN ideas to get in and out of elevators, get up and down stairs faster than anybody, to get through crowds, you name it, and I do it. Lately I have been experimenting with those grippers elderly people use to pick things up from the floor, and the results are so amazing what can be done, we can transform even our bodies using LEAN principles to maximized movement from our physical body which is not exactly designed for our environment, but LEAN principles can even fix that. LEAN is not a hobby, LEAN is a science.

I've been looking for this kaizen mindset stuff for a while. I like how kaizen can allow workers access selflessness rather than being trapped in a bad system which causes self based blind reactions, blame, office politics etc. It's like spirituality for the workplace through the vehicle of constant improvement. It leads to so many improvements in so many ways. It's a great way to reduce or eliminate unessesary suffering. I believe personally that if it it combined with an understanding and integration of the ways of nature that some day in the future humanity will integrate back into nature in a harmonious way while greatly reducing suffering and strengthening community and genuine interactivity etc not just for humans but for all beings and the planet

Nicholas Davidson Just remember man is part of nature and we are doing in large measure exactly what we were designed to do we can always do it better but we are not outside of nature we are nature the differences we have the ability to learn and improve

I saw 2 small fails. At minute 1:52 there is a guy on a chair cleaning the cieling. Under 5's rules, he should use a stepladder instead of a chair, it isn't safe to use a chair. On 16:29 the person cleaning signboard of HOKS is also failing, he is not using stepladder correctly, Actually it's easy to fall down. 5's obviously includes SAFETY, On this company everybody was doing 3's, because remaining 2's are manager's tasks. some authors include SAFETY as *6th S*, but in japanese safety is *ANSEN*. SAFETY is a core of 5's. Regards!!!!

@@grahamyoung9941 luck is not what you need you need extraordinary leader ship. The leader must have a clear vision on what the outcome is and the exact process on how to get there. They must then realize there will be many ups and downs it will not be an easy journey but it will be the most meaningful and important journey of their lifetime. Very few people ever succeed at creating a lean culture. Most will be riddled with excuses on why it won’t work but for the few to be exact the 2% that shake those off they will enjoy one of the most amazing experiences in their lifetime.
Lean is so simple. Start by making sure everyone understands one thing and one thing only.
If you're doing Lean correctly it should be pure joy. It is for the purpose of improving the quality of your life and the lives of your customers. You improve your work, you improve a significant amount of your life and you deliver more value to your customers.
When you understand that humans were made and design to improve, you are In harmony with your innate need to improve, learn and develop as a human being.
It is impossible in this context, to not drive cost down of your work and your entire human existence.
      Rule for Lean
1 - You never do Lean for the purpose of making money or saving money, but it is clearly the natural by product of Lean when it's done correctly. Do not talk about money. Only talk about improving the quality of everyone's work and life.
2 - Start slow. Be consistent. Master the basics.
      Basics
3 - Master 3'Sing (Sweep, Sort & Standardize) on a daily basis. Every day! for 10 minutes. The purpose of this activity is not to clean your work area, it is to find the problems! Cleaning sorting and sweeping is the process by which you discover the problem.
4 - Have a daily morning meeting start with 5 to 10 minutes to discuss problems & solutions and improvements your team has made.
5 - Daily learning.......Watch some of our videos…everything is free. Have a quick discussion about what you learned.
      My TH-cam Channel
      th-cam.com/users/PaulaAkers
      My Web Page
      www.PaulAkers.net
6 - Make one tiny improvement. Every day! If it’s as simple as moving your coffee maker or putting a label on something, changing how you keep your remote or how you brush your teeth it, doesn’t matter make one improvement a day.
7 - Supercharge the whole system by making quick, fun before and after videos. Nothing fancy, just use your phone. Never shoot the video vertically always hold your phone horizontally in the Lean world it is a sin to shoot a vertical video this is not how you watch your TV.
Share that video in a text message WhatsApp, Signal or any group chat so others can be inspired.
Everything else will take care of itself in due time and at the right time. People who are continuously improving are continuously discovering!
If any of this advice confound you as being too simple then I would suggest you have genius disease. In this case lean thinking will not help, A doctor will probably not be able to help you because most of them have the same disease and for damn sure a shrink will not help you, so you’re on your own!
      Thanks,
      Paul

@@paul-akers iam so hooked on lean, but I have problems to articulate the immense benefits for everyone in this system. It seems no one can understand my vision. My bosses and colleagues are great people but we don't have an actual team which sticks together in good and bad and the depressing part is there is not a single rule or order for everyone. Anyone is doing something but there is no clear picture of the whole..... I hope I teach myself to be able to bring this topic in a manner where everyone can fully understand it and is thrilled about it as iam. My first step is to improve things in my workspace - but since there are many things that don't work the way they could and I only can do the improvements in my free time it will take time. But I am not willing to give up on this firm, we could have heaven on earth if we implement lean in our business culture

Hi Paul, what a profound video, thank you for sharing that life experience, here below is my attempt to contribute with a summary (Thiago Poeys)
    > DISCIPLINE CULTURE
    4th and 5th are Manager`s job - 6th comes from 3S
3S - Discipline and Sustain (will come naturally if you do 3S daily and well)
Discipline: Moral understanding (Means knowing what is good or not)
(SHITSUKE) It's a deeper understand of why, not only doing / not doing
    > JAPANESE CULTURE
A --> Greeting (Feel warm to connect)
B --> How do you take action (from heart - carefully - generously) / Respect People
C --> How you feel (sensitivity) the way you sense your environment
Result (Kaizen): to sense the problem + the heart to take action + respecting people by communication (before/after)
Total participation/engagement: we don`t think about ourselves, but what is the best for the company
    > MENTALITY TOWARDS DEFECTS
If you send 1 defect for a customer, does not matter if you sent 1000000 out, for the customer is the single defect
You lose the trust and satisfaction from that customer because of the 1 defect.
GOAL ZERO DEFECTS, cause each person matters.
    > WHY IMMIGRANTS LIKE JAPAN?
People are humble, they treat people like equal.
"Anyone, except me is my mentor. What means I am not the best, those people have something better than me, I can learn from anyone." HOKS CEO
    > WHY 3Sing comes first?
    I) CONFIDENCE FOR THE FUTURE
If you are the client and receive the product from that company, but the place is messy. What would you think?
Even though I received an OK product, I am sure in the future the company will create defects. I cannot have long term relationship with the company, lost the confidence.
II) OPPORTUNITY TO GROW AS A PERSON (FIND PROBLEMS)
It is important to be aware, 3S makes you aware of surroundings, notice problems
To understand reality: You need To have eagle eyes (from overview), also the microscope eyes to see in high details
!!!! 3Sing BELL!!! They have this temple BELL to start and finish 3Sing time.
