      Finally got around to putting the time in with this. I've been able to play Hey Joe for a while, but some of the chord embellishments have always been beyond me. The pull offs and hammer ons that Jimi did are mind blowing and something I just can't seem to get to sound musical. This is such a great way of doing it, sliding down adds just that little bit of spice I needed. And those triad shapes are invaluable. Really brings some beautiful variation to the melody. Thanks so much Rusty, really appreciate it. 🙏

      Yes, he certainly did Nigel! I use these movements in my playing all the time. I will definitely expand on these ideas but you can use these movements. Anytime you play a major chord. This was great fun Rusty, thankyou! I was trying work out the Key and then realised with the chords being played that its in Emin and its parallel Emajor Key!

    • @rustysguitar1
      @rustysguitar1  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When did Jimi Hendrix played the chords in this piece he used major sounding rhythm accents. But on the E chord turnaround he played mostly E minor pentatonic. There’s a lot of variables in the theory of this one. but Jimi Hendrix did not look at the guitar in intervals and modes. He played chords that sounded good together, and use mostly pentatonic-based solos. It’s a fun way to play. Thanks for checking out the video. Catch you later.👍

    For anyone else somewhere in between beginner and intermediate: look into triads. Everything happening around Hey Joe will make a lot more sense if you do... You can then even get away with shortening licks (to stay on rythm) until your fingers and brain have become faster processing all of this..

    Alright Rusty! Now your cooking. Yeah Jimi had big hands and long slender fingers. If I use my thumb then my fretted fingers lay too flat and it doesn't work. Sometimes I use my pinky to play the low E then back to the chord. Rock on Rusty.

    Using your thumb isn't a great idea if it isn't long. It will cause you to palm the neck and cause a lot of problems down the road in latter life, I played with my thumb for many years and developed tendinitis in my left hand that required PT.
