I don’t really think tails died from falling, but more likely due to complications with the plane being damaged. Shrapnel/debris, or hazards while landing the tornado, which you can see in the background, could’ve all had a hand in tails’ injuries. I think the visual of tails falling is representing his death as a whole, not his cause of death.
I like the idea of tails dying and sonic being so sad and parinoid that he never lets his friends help him stop eggman like mabye in sonic cd he saves amy but avoids her at all times and he's even harder on eggman in the other sonic games not killing him but hurting him pretty badly whenever he's up to no good

Then at hill top, when sonic is about to jump, there is no blood clumped tails. And actual tails is there instead. Sonic gets the suspension someone is behind him and turns around.

A few more minor nitpicks: - I would have the goalpost at 6:20 be flipped to Sonic's or Tails' side. I feel like that would work better with the victory music playing. - Sonic's face at 6:43 looks kinda stupid, like he's fed up with all the "WhY dOeS tAiLs HaVe A pLaNe WhEn He CaN fLy?" comments. Again, the direction that this story takes is one I love, but the game itself doesn't quite do it justice.
