I've been using these batteries for a month and they rock. I was also sketched out at first but now I fully trust them and they actually seem to be built better in some ways.
Just got 2 of these.. 2 out of 2 is completely dead. Impossible to charge them with my original DJI charger. Tested it at my original battery and that works fine.
I notice that the production date on your battery was already over a year old when you posted the video. Do you see any problems with that long of a storage period from production to actual usage? Considering buying two of these, but uncertain on that issue. Any Thoughts? Thanks in advance for a reply.
Well Rick - loving these batteries AND the charger too! Sent you an email with pic showing result of using these batteries for extended time & getting great results. Very impressed my friend - thanks for the tip!
I use them on my Phantom4 with no problems, I recently got a Mavic Pro and since I am already familiar with brand I got extra batteries for the Mavic. I am happy with the batteries.
Just purchased two PowerExtra batteries for my Phantom 3 for the price of one DJI OEM. They fit and work perfectly, last the same time as OEMs and as you mentioned, include a Li-Po Safe bag. What's not to like?
Bought 2 of these - seemed to work ok until I switched to sport mode to combat a little breeze (maybe 10 knots). Got a "Rapid battery Current Drain" warning which I have never seen with the DJI batteries.

Flew both batteries today in about 15 knot wind without any issue. Heading out west next month to do some droning and am happy to have a relatively inexpensive way to have plenty of batteries. (I always start flights with fully charged cells, btw)

Did you give them all away yet?? I just bought a Mavic Pro from Walmart with a DEAD BATTERY out of the box! Sad start to my drone flying career. But i'm hopeful to find a replacement.
On fthe strength of your review, I am purchasing one of these batteries;. I'd like to ask you an unrelated question: what do you think of using a spectral analyzer to evaluate your droning site for possible interference in the controller-drone link? I have a Mavic Pro and from what I get from the online specs, it uses the 2.4 GHz band. I have had occasional broken links that concern me. The unit I am considering is the RF Explorer 6.
Nice review thanks for that, I have two dji batteries that have swollen bases, I did sent a note too to dji today along with photos of the bases, but Im sure i'll never get my factory faulty batteries replaced, guess im headed to amazon to pick up two of these replacements, thanks for this video...

Hey Ed, nice channel. My original battery that's about 2 months old just sit on the charger and it seems to charge like a dead battery. The charger keeps charging it, but never shuts off. when I pull it off the charger and push the button, it shows full. The two dji batteries seem to charge fine. Any ideas?....Thanks
Great review Rick. Quick question and slightly off topic, when using the asteroid mode in quick shots on the DJI Mavic air, it appears to default to 1080p auto. Is it possible to use asteroid mode in 4K? Thanks.
Great info! Thanks. I'm going to try one. I went through two DJI brand batteries with less than 40 charges on them. Getting sick of the DJI batteries not lasting longer.
Hey Rick as always nice video man - what is the flight time? Comparable to OEM batteries? Deciding to get these or not - have only 45 charges on my OEM batteries & they have swelled up so.........
Paul, I've had good luck with them and get about the same amount of flight time as the stock cells. I've used a pair of these for the past 4 months and they hold up really well and charge just like the originals. Thanks for the post. Rick
Hi,I’ve just received one of your batteries for my Mavic pro,my question to you is how charged are your batteries when you first get it,and I’ve plugged the battery in to charge but I just get one green light flashing 16 times pauses then flashes 16 times again doesn’t seem to be charging(standard dji brick) tried putting it on my Mavic after an hour of charging and it does nothing. Thanks Paul
Paul, thanks for the link but we don;t actually sell these PowerExtra batteries. The link I have will take you to the company's page on Amazon for purchase. I only reviewed them on the channel because I use them myself and they work really great. It sounds like you have have a damaged cell and if you try charging it again with no luck, I'd contact PowerExtra for a replacement. Good Luck!
Do you find your getting the same amount of life out of these batteries, I had one out the other day, it was really windy and I know that takes a lot more control to stay stable, however today I took a new powerextra battery out in the back and flew for a while, it seemed like in no time I was down to 64% battery life, could be Im really paying attention to the battery now that my DJI batteries are trash. is it me or are they NOT lasting as long as a DJI ??
Batteries are something I believe in the adage, “you get what you pay for”. It’s not an area I’m going to skimp on, much less place in my $900 drone. It’s probably safe, but generally, you do get what you pay for.
Kale, thanks for the post and I normally feel the same way. In this case the extra savings are worth it for me since I get 4 cells for the price of 3. I tested this battery extensively and it worked really well for me the past 4 weeks so I trust it. Thanks for the post and I hope you'll syop back soon. Rick
Hi I have brought 2 x batteries from this company for my Mavic pro. I am having issue charging from the original charger. The green led indicator does not light up. Am I doing something wrong?
I just got one too. Amazon Nov/2019 These are old stock and the voltage has fallen below threshold. The battery FET/Charge controller chip BQ30Z55 has placed the battery in permanent failure mode.
Did you try to contact them and tell them you drone blew up because of their battery or something like that by phone/email? To see how they respond ? Their contact card is nice but might be fake. Would like a follow up on if you contacted them and pretended something went really wrong
Hi Rick, like the look of the battery, and I’m sure they cannot be any worse than the original Mavic batteries that I have! Over the last eleven months I’ve had two batteries fail with “broke cell warning” please land immediately and contact DJI ASAP The first time this happened was a few months ago and I contacted DJI and they asked me to return the battery for checks and they replaced with a new battery! Great! The second time this happened was about three weeks ago and as it’s over six months old they won’t replace it and they want me to buy a new one! Anyway they know I’m not happy with this as there must be a problem either with the batteries or the Mavic! I’m now waiting on a call from higher management at DJI to call me to discuss the outcome! Would love your thoughts on this Rick, Kind regards Dave in the UK, I am a subbed to your channel, keep up the good work that you do! 👍
So, is this a LiHV battery (4.35 volts per cell charged) like the original Mavic battery, or does it use LiPo cells (4.20 volts per cell charged)? This is important, because charging LiPo cells to 4.35 volts will drastically reduce their lifespan.
Great review, I actually shied away from this a couple of weeks ago and bought an original from Amazon. (Nice to see you picked up on telling us about your engineering background. ) I've got 4 batteries now, hopefully that should be enough, that charger is brilliant can't imagine why Dji didn't do it.
Any way I can get a battery...bought a drone now life made a turn since that virus I don't know if I am going to make it.. sad to say but true.. just would like to have a little fun.. I just don't know if I am going to make it
Thanks Rick. Nice Job. Were you able to test the days-to-discharge settings? As you know, the "originals" allow us to set the number of days before it starts the auto discharge cycle. That would be my final bench test of the intelligence comparabillity. Thanks again. s2
If you are still getting your repairs or services from DJI for your drone you are well behind the learning curve. These drones can be insured for less than 100 dollars a year plus they are easy to fix all u have to do is watch a youtube video on how to fix them and buy the parts.
Thanks for the great review as always Rick. 4 weeks of testing probably isn't enough for me to place my complete trust in this product. 6 months without issues would have me sold on it, but I will probably be turning my attention (and wallet!) to the Mavic pro 2 by then. Having said that, healthy competition is great for keeping DJI's pricing honest
Well rick if those battery's are as good as them chargers you recommended, they will be good. Ive purchase a few products you have recommended and must say I'm very pleased with all of them. Great products. Thanks 4 sharing..
Just an update to most recent comment. Tried the battery for the first time yesterday and everything was going fine until the battery was at 26%. Then I received an battery overheat message. Pretty surprising. I landed my Mavic immediately. The battery was very hot. It was fully charged before using it. I was flying mainly in GPS mode and Tripod mode. No sport mode or more aggressive mode. So I was surprised this happened. I have email customer support. Still waiting for a response. It's too bad. This is a pretty nice looking battery and it fits very well. Hopefully they will send me e replacement to try. Just a little concerned that after only one flight this happened.
I popped one of those powerextra battery to my Mavic , and when i started dji go, i had a message popping out "here's a device not activated" what should i do, should i sactivate it or press cancel every single time? im afraid "activating" might blacklist the battery
I just purchased two of the batteries on Amazon. I plugged the into my Mavic pro hub and neither batter will accept a charge. They came with no instructions. I have been communicating with customer support. They have asked several questions and it takes them at least 6 hours to respond to my answers. I have asked to speak with a technician and so far no luck. I tried communicating with there support telephone number. It says their mailbox is full. Unfortunately I live in Ecuador and it is a process to get replacement batteries. I certainly will not replace with Powerextra batteries.
I've had them in constant rotation for flying and they are working great. Remember that DJI cells aren't made by DJI, they are produced by a Lipo battery company. These guys use similar factories to build theirs as well. Thanks for the post and stay tuned for more content this week. Rick
I'm actually working on one now for that product and will have it posted soon. I always like to use a product for a while before doing a review clip. I like it a lot and think they did a great job on the entire package so be sure to stay tuned. Rick
MAN I HAVE TO WATCH FOR IT,I SENT YOU A E-MAIL JUST NOW LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU ARE GOING TO PUT IT ON THE TUBE, I JUST GOT ONE IT IS THE BEST THING I EVER GOT. THE MONITOR WORKS ON THE P-3 AND THE MAVIC. IT STAYS CHARGED FOR 7 1/2 HOURS OF FLYING.SO E-MAIL ME IF YOU THINK OF IT OK. THANKS. YOU PUT GOOD VIDEO'S ON THE TUBE.
How many time have you charged that battery in your testing? The screen shot you have in the video only shown 1 charge but in the video you said you’ve charged it a bunch of times. Why didn’t you use a picture with multi chargers?
I have two of them, one I have been flying and a new one that I am giving away in the contest I mentioned in the clip. The image I posted was from the new cell that hasn't been used yet and it only has the original charge on it. I charged it to see if the automatic discharge worked if I let it sit for 10 days and it does. Good catch but no shenanigans on my part. Rick
After nearly 2 years later this year I am well past getting any assistance from DJI , so whatever savings I can make I will , and as for DJI Batts 3 have failed over the last year with less than 40 charges , so where is the quality and who supply's DJI with the cells. ?
Unfortunately, not my experience. The pair I purchased, one had a significant cell deviation. The fit seemed very tight, with the top protruding out above the top aerodynamic silhouette of the Mavic Pro. The gray shade of the batteries are lighter in color that that of the Drone.
Great review, just one very small problem - they look so similar it's hard to tell which is which, please label which battery is DJI and which is PowerExtra
After seeing your review I purchased one through Amazon. Sadly it would not charge and I had to send it back for a refund. The sad part was I am heading off for a huge trip and was pressed for time. However, having to send it back for a refund has made it very tight for my leaving date as I have had to order one from a DJI dealer. I personally think you are better off buying the battery from a DJI dealer. Save a lot of wasting ones time.
Gary, thanks for the post and I'm sorry to hear about your issues. I've used the PowerExtra cells for both my Phantom and my Mavic pro for years and have had very good luck with them. Lipo cells in general are touchy things and every now and then you'll get one that won't "wake up". I have done a few clips on the proper care and feeding of this technology and I'm sure if you have these guys another try, you'd have better luck. I appreciate the post and hope you'll stop back soon. Rick
sounds like powerextra needs a bit more stringent quality control of their products before they go out the door. Seems that these batteries are basically hit or miss.
Sure the review is honest-- but reviewing a cherry-picked free-sample is not nearly as good as reviewing an anonymously bought random battery. Thank supplier for the free one, but review a random one instead.
Strange, according to the text on the back of DJI's battery, it is based on Li-Ion technology and PowerExtra's technology is LiPo. DJI's battery weighs 231 grams and PowerExtras according to the seller 12 ounce (340 grams), which means one should expect a slightly shorter flight time than with the original battery. There seemed to be a big difference between the two manufacturers batteries !!!
FWIW, I believe that LiPO is the acronym (short abreviation) for Lithium-Ion Polymer. So there are Lithium Ion batteries and Lithium-Ion Polymer. The internal components separating cells are different, that being the addition of polymers. Check out other battery videos for more precision :-) I'm no chemist!
Sorry, but this is actually two different battery technologies we here are talking about. It's easiest for you to read about them both in the following link's: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_polymer_battery en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium-ion_battery
I can not buy the batteries here in Europe at all. It's the technical aspect of the batteries that interest me since DJI's batteries are made on Li-Ion technology and the others are called Li-Po or LiPo batteries. Thanks for the information about the weight "only" is 12-20 grams larger. It makes a big difference. :-)
if this company can made the battery that close to perfect . if they can make a battery a bit ticker and give another 5 minutes of flight time. this will be a big sellers. to save 20$ that mean nothing since you spent over 1000$ for the drone.
This battery failed last night. Almost cost me my mavic. Went down in a corn field and I was out there till midnight with a flashlight trying to find it. Now the battery wont even take a charge. Getting a refund today.
Phillip, thanks for the post and I'm sorry to hear about your issue. I have 4 of these in my kit and have charged them close to 100 times and they're working great. Lipo technology can be a little temperamental and it sounds like you have a rogue cell. I'm glad you found your quad and good luck with the replacement. Rick
@@Dronevalley Amazon sent me a replacement. I'll let everyone know how this one does. I won't be flying this one in anything but orbit mode the first few weeks.
Rick. Sent you and email on this and decided to post the content here so others could see/decide whether they though some additional tear-down could be beneficial. I recall that you have a Parrot BeBop 2 and thought this referral would be helpful to you. The link below is the TH-cam channel of ANTHONYVLOG. He took some extra steps to compare a Parrot battery with a GiFi (clone) battery. Each battery was used over a 6 month period and he tried to use each equal amounts of time. On disassembly he discovered the clone batteries had significant puffing. He further disassembled the battery containers to reveal the PCB (power board connection) revealing the clone had NO circuitry … hence a dumb battery that should have been charged with a balance charger! (FWIW, I’ve looked at the GiFi documentation online and they don’t make any indications that a balance charger should be used, nor do they offer their own balance charger.) th-cam.com/video/2WlKkxAuqHI/w-d-xo.html I thought this excellent review of the PowerExtra battery was exactly what I was looking for, and appreciate the detail you provided. Because the DJI batteries are “smart” and not requiring balance charging, the GiFi review got me wondering about other clones out there -like the PowerExtra- that need a closer look to their "smartness"! You’re an engineer and much more qualified to take a closer look. Is there any chance you could follow with a similar tear down of the PowerExtra? Give it 2-3 months of comparable use and let us know how it goes, and maybe a look for some smart circuitry.
I bought two from Amazon, and after one month, one of the batteries is not accepting charge, when I set it in the charger, the first LED keeps flashing on and off for ever, but never get full charge. To me, they're garbage, waste of money. Don't recommend. !!
Thanks for the post but I have 4 of these now and they all work great. As with any product (especially batteries) you can always receive a dud. The company is very responsive so you should send them a note and I'm sure they'll replace the cell. Rick
This is why DJI wont let you into there group ( refers too another video of yours)... your advertising other branded products over their products,,, lol
Thanks for the post and I can't seem to win :) If all I talk about is DJI, I get labelled a DJI fanboy but when I review competitive gear, people call me a heretic. Total respect for you man, I like all your videos but what Im trying too say I guess is that by recommending these other brands DJI wont ever let you into the inner santium... and you mentioned thatswhere you would like too be..

Rick
Thanks - just ordered qty 3...
May as well the DJI Batteries went in too quickly so won't buy dji batteries any time soon!
How do you store your batteries? Swelling usually happens when stored at 100% charge.
Thanks, Rick. Looks good; I'll definitely consider it.
Thanks for the video. Any idea if this comes in a Platinum version due to the colour?
Good Luck!
Excellent review Rick!!
Do you find your getting the same amount of life out of these batteries, I had one out the other day, it was really windy and I know that takes a lot more control to stay stable, however today I took a new powerextra battery out in the back and flew for a while, it seemed like in no time I was down to 64% battery life, could be Im really paying attention to the battery now that my DJI batteries are trash. is it me or are they NOT lasting as long as a DJI ??
how is the battery after 3 years
Honest and fair yet again, well done.
Rick
Drone Valley thanks for the reply Rick. Really enjoy your well-produced videos, they’ve been an invaluable resource to help me get into this hobby.
Now that it has been a long time do you still recommend this battery?
Great review Rick. Thank you.
Hi
I have brought 2 x batteries from this company for my Mavic pro.
Over the last eleven months I’ve had two batteries fail with “broke cell warning” please land immediately and contact DJI ASAP
The first time this happened was a few months ago and I contacted DJI and they asked me to return the battery for checks and they replaced with a new battery!
Would love your thoughts on this Rick,
Kind regards
Dave in the UK,
I am a subbed to your channel, keep up the good work that you do! 👍
Great review , thank you.
So, is this a LiHV battery (4.35 volts per cell charged) like the original Mavic battery, or does it use LiPo cells (4.20 volts per cell charged)?
This is important, because charging LiPo cells to 4.35 volts will drastically reduce their lifespan.
Battery is clearly marked on the base as "Lithium Polymer" and the individual voltages he shows (on the app screen) also reflect/indicate LiPO
K Danagger amzn ad show 11.4v also rick says 11.4v in vid if you watched
you said your going to give it a way can i have it?
Thanks Rick great review
Great review, I actually shied away from this a couple of weeks ago and bought an original from Amazon. (Nice to see you picked up on telling us about your engineering background. ) I've got 4 batteries now, hopefully that should be enough, that charger is brilliant can't imagine why Dji didn't do it.
Just got 2 new , both wont charge??? help
Wonderful review as always. Thanks.
Thanks again. s2
If it crashed with this battery do you think DJI care warranty will cover the replacement?
TKO593 just wait until it's out of warranty then buy some of these batteries.😁
If you are still getting your repairs or services from DJI for your drone you are well behind the learning curve. These drones can be insured for less than 100 dollars a year plus they are easy to fix all u have to do is watch a youtube video on how to fix them and buy the parts.
DJI CARE WILL TAKE MINIMUM 5 WEEKS TO COMPLETE REPAIRS
IF YOU BUY THE PARTS AND REPAIR YOURSELF YOUL BE FLYING AGAIN WITHIN ONE WEEK
I popped one of those powerextra battery to my Mavic , and when i started dji go, i had a message popping out "here's a device not activated"
what should i do, should i sactivate it or press cancel every single time? im afraid "activating" might blacklist the battery
You should activate it. Just like the DJI cells, these cells have to "handshake" with the quad to sync up the first time. Thanks for the post. Rick
How have they held up a year later?
I've had them in constant rotation for flying and they are working great. Remember that DJI cells aren't made by DJI, they are produced by a Lipo battery company. These guys use similar factories to build theirs as well. Thanks for the post and stay tuned for more content this week. Rick
Where in Canada can I purchase these batteries? Thank you
Did you find the site? The amazon sells for 95 CAD but its much cheaper on U.S. site.
whats the flight time?
Great review Rick.
Just received 2 of these batteries. And my Mavic Pro is saying Battery Authentication Error, please contact DJI
Thank you sir for this info.
I WOULD LIKE TO SEE YOU DO A VIDEO ON THE DJI crystal sky MONITOR OUT.MAN IT IS SWEET. AND YOU COULD TELL US A LOT ABOUT IT.
THE MONITOR WORKS ON THE
P-3 AND THE MAVIC.
Rick
thanks a lot! great review
Thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed the clip. I have more content posting this week so stay tuned! Rick
Thanks for a great video 👍
Great review thanks
DJI will not acepted in warranty if drone has a problem after using this battery, right ?
Also the battery has the same ampere, so no interest on it.
Paulo Lobo how Dji Going to know???
Battery status and serial number recorded on flight data. If you had a problem and requested DJI assistance, they would request flight data.
After nearly 2 years later this year I am well past getting any assistance from DJI , so whatever savings I can make I will , and as for DJI Batts 3 have failed over the last year with less than 40 charges , so where is the quality and who supply's DJI with the cells. ?
Half the price?
Unfortunately, not my experience. The pair I purchased, one had a significant cell deviation. The fit seemed very tight, with the top protruding out above the top aerodynamic silhouette of the Mavic Pro. The gray shade of the batteries are lighter in color that that of the Drone.
I was under the impression that if you use a third party battery while copter is under warranty DJ I will void warranty.
Like #2 Mr. Bill, thanks for sharing.
Hi Rick! Your amazon referral links are broken. Thank you for the review I am purchasing them. Keep you posted.
Nice input
It's a shame they don't make a 5870mah for the P4P.
It's easiest for you to read about them both in the following link's:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_polymer_battery
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium-ion_battery
I can not buy the batteries here in Europe at all. It's the technical aspect of the batteries that interest me since DJI's batteries are made on Li-Ion technology and the others are called Li-Po or LiPo batteries.
Thanks for the information about the weight "only" is 12-20 grams larger. It makes a big difference. :-)
BOTH batteries are lithium ion polymer!! Its a fact don't argue it. Lol its stamped as such on dji battery.
4:51... Physically...the contacts are not the same and the LED lenses are not the same.
For the cost savings that is irrelevant....
Awesome
Epic fail of a battery based on the comments below. Don’t think I’d risk an expensive drone.
if this company can made the battery that close to perfect . if they can make a battery a bit ticker and give another 5 minutes of flight time. this will be a big sellers. to save 20$ that mean nothing since you spent over 1000$ for the drone.
Rick
@@Dronevalley I'm wondering if QA may be an issue with PowerExtra..
@@Dronevalley Amazon sent me a replacement. I'll let everyone know how this one does. I won't be flying this one in anything but orbit mode the first few weeks.
@@FirstAmericaFirst howndid it go?
(FWIW, I’ve looked at the GiFi documentation online and they don’t make any indications that a balance charger should be used, nor do they offer their own balance charger.)
th-cam.com/video/2WlKkxAuqHI/w-d-xo.html
I thought this excellent review of the PowerExtra battery was exactly what I was looking for, and appreciate the detail you provided.
👍 ✌
My aim with the channel is to talk about tech that interests me. I offer some reviews as well on products I use, but am free to recommend any product that I find value in to help you enjoy the hobby. I hope you keep watching because I have a lot more tech and gear I'll be talking about. Rick
Total respect for you man, I like all your videos but what Im trying too say I guess is that by recommending these other brands DJI wont ever let you into the inner santium... and you mentioned thatswhere you would like too be..
TheBlues Ine hogwash I like DJI drones in fact they are the only drones I buy other than some fun micro drones . But I'd rather watch videos about all tech vs only DJI just my 2 cent's 😁
*Sanctum
they doesnt look same as mavic original one though !
I just got one and I think it looks better than the OEM.
Got 2 today, both dead on arrival? would not charge, useless, cant tell the difference, you must be kidding, just sent them both back, complete waste of time.. :(
