    03:57 preserved plums(蜜餞/奶梅)
    15:44 Chhau-a-koe(草仔粿) a type of kuih with a sweet dough made with glutinous rice flour, sugar, and a ground cooked paste of Jersey cudweed or Chinese mugwort. (From Wiki) BTW,that sold out flavor is my all time favorite! The filling is dried radish with mushroom(shiitake) and pork! My grandma always brought me some after she preyed in the temple when I was a kid
    21:49 yes! They both are meatballs! One is deep-fried (Changhua style) and the other is steamed (Taichung style).
    Fun fact: Taiwanese always fights online about which kind of meatballs is the best 😂

    Oh WOW, beautiful vlog!! Jiufen is such a gorgeous place without the crowd. It used to be a very tranquil sleepy little town in the mountains but now it has turned into a tourist attraction. My kids once, years ago, had an outdoor performance with a string quartet just outside of A-Mei Tea House which used to be a black smith shop. It was a super fun experience for them.

    Your guess is right, dried plum. Taiwanese people's most favourite food texture is QQ which means chewy, that it is why you have come across a lot of chewy types of food. Another saying for dessert is "it is great, it is not too sweet". Also I noticed loads of TH-camrs checking out Jiufen, but none seem to have found the old guy with the house full of masks he has made with how people die, he says the spirits tell him or something if I am remembering correctly (I hope he is still there).

    The outer part of deep fried pink meat ball (shown at 20:07) is made with potato starch, which gives you chewy texture that is different from corn starch. The pork filling inside the meat ball was marinated in red vinasse that provides good flavor. Sometimes, other ingredient may be added into the meat ball, such as shredded bamboo shoot, to make this dish more flavorful.
    As for the pink sauce, it is combined with sweet and slight salty taste. It may served with sweet, thick soy sauce, too.

    但事實上那只是穿鑿附會~
    但九份有它歷史文化背景~以及獨特的地理位置~
    阿妹茶館之所以會有名我認為主要是所在的位置風景很美~不同季節會呈現不同的氣氛~

    • @TalesFromOurPocket
      @TalesFromOurPocket  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would strongly recommend making reservations if A-Mei is the tea house you want to go to (or go right when they open, which is what we did). The first evening when we tried filming and the crowds were...impressive...we had arrived around 4-5pm. That's when the shot was taken of me "lost" in the crowd. 😂 we returned the next day around 9am to look around and film things before the Tea house opened at 10. Far fewer people! Many shops don't open until 10am though. Late morning is perfect.
