Hi Ben, I am recording two people together. I don't appear in the videos. I minimize and mute myself when I am ready to begin recording. I want to begin with both subjects side by side in Gallery View, to introduce themselves. Next I pin the first speaker. Then I unpin the first speaker and pin the second speaker. The problem arises when I return to Gallery View the speakers have switched position. The one on the left is now on the right. This can be disconcerting to the viewer. What is the best way to switch back and forth between pinning and Gallery View. I should have mentioned that I am recording co-authors who are discussing their book, so at times I want both on the screen and at other times just one.
Hi - I have never tried this specific sequence of actions in a recording so I can't say for sure. You MIGHT be able to manually rearrange the gallery view at the beginning and then hope Zoom sticks with that order when un-pinning instead of automatically rearranging - not 100% sure if that will work but worth a shot. This video might help: th-cam.com/video/pqn7w7fgDak/w-d-xo.html
For some reason when I record on Zoom, and I only want my video to be shown, (audition) I put myself in speaker mode and pin myself and hit record. However when I see the recording, every time the other person talks, the screen pops over to them. How do I get it to stay on me? The other person last time recorded too as a safe measure and they were able to get footage just of me without it popping over to them when they spoke. What am I missing?! Thanks!
Hi Ben - thanks for great video. I teach pilates classes. I use speaker view, and release the resultant video of me (plus any interjections, questions or coughing fits) is what I make available. Clents need the video of me, but occasionally want the gallery view to observe their own activity. Better if they could see just themselves. I get to have the two videos (speaker and gallery) and occasionally send the gallery view to a client, where they can see everyone. :( I could allow them to record the session ....and pin themselves?? or spotlight myself but use gallery view. Of course while teaching I need to see all the clients in gallery view. CAn you see a way through this? Many thanks , Alex.
Hi - I have several videos about what gets recorded in Zoom that you may find helpful: th-cam.com/users/BenFiniosearch?query=recorded. My videos are all about local recording though. If you have a Pro account with cloud recording, there is an option to record speaker and gallery views to separate video files. You could also give people permission to record but I'm not sure if your clients would have privacy concerns about other people recording them (of course, there's nothing stopping people from using third-party screen recording software anyway).
This might be the answer I need. If I am doing a painting demo and the students want to see the painting I'm doing, should they pin my camera video or spotlight it? It not that important that they see me, but if I'm understanding this, they can pin or unpin as they desire. Thanks
This is great! Thanks for explaining this so clearly! Can you select more than one speaker for the spotlight? I'm hosting a Zoom webinar and will have two co-speakers and would like to spotlight both of them at once.

I find all your tutorials very helpful. Thank you. Do I need to have more than two participants i.e invite myself on 2 other computers, then first spotlight me + the participant and then share screen? I tried bit it did not work. Kind regards Branka

hi Ben, is there any trick, if I want to record just the camera of the student in best quality for further editing in Final Cut Pro? I made a test through pinning his window - and it worked. BUT... the resolution of this recorded file of him was just 640x360 pixel - what can I do to increase the video-resolution of that recorded file...?
Hi - first I would make sure the student has the "enable HD" option selected in their video settings. If the student's video is low-resolution to begin with then there isn't really anything you can do. This still only gets you up to 720p - it does not look like Zoom supports 1080p: support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/207347086-Group-HD. I am not 100% sure if this will translate to a 720p recorded file though. If so, unfortunately as far as I know that is not possible with a Zoom meeting. If a participant's camera is on, everyone else will be able to see them. I think there is remote proctoring software that does this but I am not familiar with any of it.
@@BenFinio I have 8 students taking a test. Each student tips their computer so that their camera is pointed to their work on their paper. If each student has their camera pointed down, they cannot see what anyone else is writing. Does this make sense?
@@profagreenhalgh4655 Yes, but now I'm confused again - you mean that's what you're already planning on doing, and you're asking me if it will work? If so, yes - assuming the students are all using laptops with the screens physically angled down so they cannot see their own screens, then I guess in theory that would prevent them from seeing anyone else's work. Not sure how foolproof it would be though (maybe if they hold their head at a funny angle they'd still be able to see the screen without you noticing).
How do I video myself when I am teaching without videoing the student in the class?
Hi ali - I'm not clear what you mean by "video myself." Do you mean "see myself"? If so, you can pin or spotlight your own video. If you mean "record myself," please see my video on what gets recorded in Zoom (in the playlist linked above).
how to pin video even after spotlight?
you can't pin and spotlight at the same time.
when i pining other people that people will know i pining him?
I made a new video to cover that exact question! th-cam.com/video/hALkegvkeCk/w-d-xo.html
Ah ha. I believe I would want to spotlight my camera video so all see it at the same time.
Hi Paul - yes, you' figured it out. If you want to force all your students to see your painting, you should spotlight your video. If you want to give them individual control, let them pin it individually.
@@BenFinio Thanks Ben. That was an ah hah moment for me. Q: If I force a spotlight, can students still pin thier own view so I can see what they are doing or how they are progressing? Thx
@@paultaylor6167 If you have someone spotlighted then I don't think students can pin anymore, but you could tell students to pin you and pin themselves - see this video: th-cam.com/video/RZIn9AxSRrU/w-d-xo.html
But who can 'spotlight' ?
hosts and co-hosts
Hi :) I have one question, when I pin someone do everyone else can see that I pin that person?
Short answer: no. Long answer: watch this th-cam.com/video/l9yc1v6Pozg/w-d-xo.html
Wat
there is no spotlightvideo option in zoom
Only the host can spotlight.
@@BenFinio i am only the host but not came
@@SABDUL-qy7qe Hmm, I am not sure what is wrong then unless you are running a very old version of Zoom and have not updated in a while.
@@BenFinio ok sir tq i will try
