    Outstanding. I learned so much from your “dry filling” techniques. As a beginner I appreciate your patience with followers like me. Thank you. EBD.

    I know there’s a ton of talk about a lack of an engine. Personally, I’m fine with that… two reasons, 1 I’m thankful that Kotaire was born from the old Wingnut wings crew and at the end of the day it’s a business and they have to start somewhere with probably a tight budget. 2, that fit is sublime! I can’t wait to get cracking on my build of it! Thank you Steve for another great review and build!

      thank you I think it’s up there with the Tamiya mosquito for fit - very satisfying to hear all those clicks.

    Love it! I just received my 1/48 Eduard Spitfire Mk1a as I watched this. Now I'm wanting a bigger one...lol.

    Great part one; I'm hooked. The straightforward assembly process must be a pleasant respite from the photoetch intensity of the Bismarck.

    G'day mate, yet again your giving us a master class in model building!
    I do have 1 suggestion and a question, firstly, when you drilled out the holes in the frame, why did you give them a swipe with some extra thin cement?
    Secondly, my suggestion, for those annoying ejector pin marks, I punch out some disks from styrene, as close to the diameter and depth of the holes. Then I give them a tiny bit of filler to blend them in, and therefore don't have to worry about "shrinkage" :)

  • @Smokeyr67

    I see Kotare as the "Pheonix that risen from the ashes", and they have the potential to be far greater then Wingnuts, for one they are free from the personal demands of Sir Pete and can therefore make subjects that aren't vanity projects.

    Based on the build sequence on this kit so far Mr Steve, I will definitely be ordering one for a future build.
    I need to finish up all my unfinished projects before I start a new one.
    I learn something new from you on every build of yours.

    Reference your query on the position of the rudder pedals. I’m sure I read somewhere that spitfires were parked with a rudder input. I think you’ll find the rudder assembly will be off centre to match the pedals.

    Great start! The detail looks better than the Tamiya Mk VIII I have in my stash, and with a lot fewer parts! If the fit of the cockpit parts are any indication, the rest of the build is going to be almost filler free. Looking forward to the next upload! Thanks again!

    Just a heads up Steve; I watched another detailed build and the addition of the colour coat did seem to have an effect on the fit, particularly around the area of the rear frames. Removing the paint on the contact edges did the trick.

    Fantastic kit, fantastic fit. Even though it's only the cockpit the engineering shows. Does Kotare give the diameter for the control cables? If so will you use Easy Line or fine copper wire. Keep up the great work.

    • @TheModelShed
      @TheModelShed  ปีที่แล้ว

    great work on the cockpit,pity they couldn,t use the merlin from the defunct lancaster ,thats if it was the right engine

    • @TheModelShed
      @TheModelShed  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think they were Packard Merlin’s Mick - quite a bit different to these

  • @mickrobinson1112
    @mickrobinson1112 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    thanks for reply, there both in the border model kit merlin and packard

    • @TheModelShed
      @TheModelShed  ปีที่แล้ว

      Didn’t know that Mick - there were several types of Merlin - the MK1 had the Merlin III I think and the Lancaster series 20 Merlins. The main block will be similar but it’s likely that the supercharger and ancillaries were different. I’m sure there will be a Brassin engine for this before long.

    • @mickrobinson1112
      @mickrobinson1112 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks for reply steve ,but i think your right to show an engine it would spoil the lines of the aircraft

  • @anj4de

    I wonder if the later LG retraction motor is already included in the kit. Late Mk1s and all follow up had this...

    • @TheModelShed

      Don’t think so - I’ll see what’s left on the sprues when I’m done.

  • @Ian-lx1iz
    @Ian-lx1iz ปีที่แล้ว

    Are you going to review the engine - the inconic _Merlin_ engine in part 2?
    You reviewed only the first 117 kit parts here. Surely, you'll review all the rest - must be hundreds more! - in part 2 as well?

    • @TheModelShed
      @TheModelShed  ปีที่แล้ว

      Very droll. They’d have charged another £30 for an engine and I wouldn’t have wanted to ruin the lines anyway by opening it up. The kit doesn’t suit everyone but I think they got it right.

  • @finlayfraser9952

  • @johntreloar8203
    @johntreloar8203 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'm on the fence with this one, I just don't like that there's no engine, and even if there was, I'd have the satisfaction of knowing I built it and it's hidden behind the cowls... I think I'd still consider the Airfix 1/24th scale over this one.

    • @TheModelShed
      @TheModelShed  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Having no engine was a plus for me John - it just shows the dilemma manufacturers have in satisfying us all 🤔🤔

    22:25 I think a seperate engine(in the kit or sold seperately) next to the plane would be a good compromise...

  • @paulsmodels
