Obsidian is basically just volcanic glass so you can only find it in substantial quantities in volcanic regions. When I say volcanic I don’t mean only currently active areas like Hawaii but just areas that have been active within the last few thousand years. It’s not incredibly hard to find some pieces if you know where to look in like the western half of the United States for example. The really nice quality big chunks that you see people knapping are typically from large deposits in places like Iceland.
I have this large chunk of obsidian that my aunt gifted to me. Would you make a commissioned piece out of that chunk if I mailed it to you? Would you have a price range for what you’d charge for something like that?

I use the flakes. If I wanted to preserve later I would cut it into slabs and flake it like that, then I would get the “that’s cheating” trolls
