There is certain rules when you are driving on ghat roads. One of the rule is people who driving down in ghat should give way to vehicles climbing up, especially for heavy vehicles. Its hard for them to climbing up with heavy load once they stopped or extremely slow down. Try to understand their difficulties. You are not the only road user.

It may look car is at fault but that truck has no chance to turn in that radius even with momentum as load is high wheel turning radius go high . These are not himalayas to know whats coming and whats not, as trees block the view and horn alone cannot tell size of the vehicles . Its the truck fault for carrying that kind of load at hills .
Car driver was in dilemma as he is too late to stop the vehicle as people are tailgating him . Its like he heard the horn but couldnt break bcoz other camera guy was too close to dzire and driver couldnt see the truck . Ofc car driver had knowledge that he has to give way but he has passed the saftey line which is why he took long curve as soon as he heard .

For first timers driving on such hairpin bends this situation is tricky. You need some experience and commonsense to know what exactly to do. When you are driving downhill and approaching a hairpin bend and a heavy vehicle is coming from the other end you should take the inner curve and allow the big vehicle to take the outer curve as big vehicles require bigger space to complete a 180 degree turn. But first timers driving small cars think that they need to remain on the left lane which goes horribly wrong in this situation.

That's why hill driving has separate license. Ability to halt and pickup acceleration without rolling back, negotiating hairpin curves in hills, reversing vehicles in narrow path in the hills, traction wheels stuck in loose mud, towing vehicles in hills etc.
In hill states RTO driving tests comprise many requirements for driving license.

Ghat road or normal roads, road rules are common to all. Yes, the vehicle going downhill must give preference to the vehicle coming up, for sure. But in this case, this lorry is OVERLOADED and therefore is finding it very difficult to restart it's climb after stopping. The car can be seen doing its best to get out of the way. The lorry has been overloaded because the operator is trying to extract the maximum benefit from the trip. If the lorry is checked for overloading, I'm quite sure, it will be well beyond the manufacturer recommended limit. In this case, the lorry operator needs to be heavily fined, so that he doesn't repeat his act.

I agree that some drivers load their vehicle really heavy but in this scenario it's not true
Slop of the ghat is high here, you can see even the bus was struggling to climb it up and trucks are meant to carry more load than the Bus
The rule which you are talking about changes in the ghats like this... I have seen it since my childhood that vechile climbing up will take the side where they can get less slope (You can see truck coming from the right side of the road) which is perfectly fine and recommended in this scenario

First of all, there are no proper road signs. Even after the truck driver was negotiating, see those other car drivers and the bus driver who passed through the narrow passage. That shows the mentality of our drivers. All drivers, be a truck or a car should respect the road signs and driving habits. We need to exercise lot of patience on the road, the first and the foremost quality of driving (especially in highways and ghats).

I have a different question here.. Why are we sending such big/long vehicles on roads where it's a challenge to drive? Can't we instead send the similar load in smaller vehicles? Yes.. It may be expensive but it needs to be considered.

    • @Saranyan.D
      @Saranyan.D ปีที่แล้ว +2

Same load csnt be sent in smaller vehicles coz that'd increase the height of the vehicle. And chances of toppling is high. Had the car waited after the truck honked there wouldn't have been any issue.

Biggest issue is underpowered trucks being manufactured in India. In addition, trucks are often overloaded. This creates such a tricky situation.
But then they need to be competitive on the costing part too... otherwise every one would had driven a 600 bhp Volvo...and we would have bought everything at a premium price cause majority of the cost is due to distribution.

Government officials should put board before entering Ghat road car and all vehicles must try to understand while coming down give long space for up going heavy vehicle and the following vehicle behind must keep more distance if the forward truck pass then pull up maximum speed and watch you load if the load hight is very high never turn maximum radius..

Either the truck is severely underpowered or it is overloaded.. both these factors would cause unnecessary traffic on ghat roads.

These narrow ghath road are not made for such oversize trucks they always create problem for all commuters. The pavement load limit for these road is only 30Ton.
These kind of oversize truck is very dangerous for public and create lot of trouble like slow down the traffic, crate huge road blockages if they breakdown.

New drivers , please be reminded of few pointers while driving on ghat section hill roads
    1. Give way for up climbing vehicles
    2. When you see a heavy vehicle climbing in hair pin bend, park on your right side and guve way on left, dont go too close to the hairpin bend to park on your right. Bcos small cars and bikes tend to over take the truck quickly in hairpin bends, if you parked on right too closer, it may kead to an accide t
    3. Use the same nunber of gear for climbing and drivingng down. For exampme you use 2 nd gear to climb a hairpin bend, you should use the same 2nd gear while driving down at the same bend. This improves better control and effective braking. You may reduce the gear but not accelerate, save some fuel too
    4. Dont go too closer to your right or left, look ahead the maximum possible vision and the top side to keep vigil of land sliding

One must be in the wrong side of the road when climbing up or getting down on sharp ghat turns.
Moreover always give free path or side to truck drivers even on big highways too, who works hard and ensures our deliveries of goods and others necessary essentials on time. Now a days truck's are highly mordanized, they have emmese power, maneuverability but still It's very hard to drive them... Please respect them... Please give them side 🙏🙏

There is only one rule to be followed on the roads of India that is keep left .
This is not the Himalayas and not off road and not an emergency vehicle .
This is an overloaded vehicle trying to bully its way up firstly by using those air horns which are not allowed secondly by using its size and weight and ofcourse it's metal bumpers .
If it's engine is not powerful enough to pull it up it should not be there .
.... and they are doing it for their own profits . If you want a truck to be able to go where this is going buy a stronger engined truck or one which has multiple live axles and differential locks on at least one of those axles . You buy cheap you face problems .
