Certainly not Messier as hits back then would be illegal and would warrant suspension. His shoulder hit to Modano's head would probably get at least a 10 game suspension today. As for Slewban, he is aware.

There's no way to keep your head up when drilled into the boards from behind.

Don't turn to expose yourself, it's taught from the start of hockey don't put yourself in a vulnerable position. Accidents do happen but there becoming less and less because of this. We wear stop signs on the jersey at a young age so it becomes second nature. Now if both parties are fine maybe a 2 minute minor for turning should be implemented to discourage this play from the game.

I’m not a big PK Subban fan and loved watching Messier and the oilers growing up but if this isn’t the pot calling the kettle black what is🤷♂️. Messier is one of the games great players all time but may be the dirtiest player all time. He has no right calling Oshie out on a play that was not premeditated . I understand they are discussing on a panel but Oshie always played a clean hard game and when challenged he often fought if need be.

Sorry, but Mark was in fact a dirty player in the 80s before becoming Captain of the Oilers, so Mark is not in a good place to talk about dirty hits in hockey.
Pk subban doesn’t even deserve to be in the same building as Mark Messier
Players used to go into the boards looking around them to make sure they could protect themselves now players don't even look around or nothing and then depend on the refs to call it. I think they are actually both right.
It does seem like many players have forgot the fundamentals to look around first when chasing down a puck
It's not the players Job to not get hit from behind lol.. you can pin a guy without hitting him from behind.. if a player sees someone coming from behind what the fuck are they going to do? Roll off the puck and let the defender take it? Lol
