My wife’s dealership quoted her 1200 to do a wheelbearing. I did the job in about 30 minutes and $90 for the new bearing. I only ever ask her to get the quote from the dealership to know how much I’m “saving” on the job to buy new tools, lol. Good tip about not separating the knuckle if you don’t have to. Service manual said to separate the knuckle because the hub bearing bolts will run into the boot. All I had to do was loosen the bolts, then use a hub puller to walk the hub bearing out, then loosen more, repeat. Easy peasy, and saved the need to separate the knuckle and do an alignment.

Honestly even if you seperate the knuckle from the strut, the bolts are usually have sherades. So it shouldnt even more the alignment if it does barley anything.

Wish we had just 1 honest reliable garage in my area. I prefer small owner operated garages, that's where I have always gone for any service to my vehicles. No luck in my area of Florida. Every place I've gone they have pulled some crap, I guess because I'm a woman. One place tried to sell me 4 new tires because my tires were expired. Not worn out or dry rotten. No expired because they were almost 3 years old! Had them take my car off the lift and never went back.
Absolutely love your videos but they do make me long for a mechanic/owner garage like yours. Your thoughtful, honest, intelligent and respectful of the cars you work on.

Back in the day, auto mechanics was mostly the a physical job, big heavy parts and large hammers. Fast forward to the Jetson's future, and you can diagnose almost anything on a car with a computer and logic instead of ripping it all apart without direction. Anyone can do it, but you have to thinking and paying attention to get the job done quickly and without a fuss. Thanks for showing us all that we really all can do it.

ERIC!!! thanks for the video.... I get so tired of explaining to folks that the codes are a guide to point you in the direction of the problem, not a crystal ball to tell you what part to swap. Even when I do explain it, so many just stick with what they want to believe and ignore the logic. I once heard a WISE person say "I can explain it to you, but I cannot understand it for you." Your content helps cause I can point folks to your videos and they can hear it from from another honest Mechanic.

Most people prefer the easy solution whether it is right or wrong. You have to think logically/critically to arrive at the true cause. Cars (just like life & people) are not always easy to solve or figure out. I am glad Mr. O has the wisdom to question what appears to be going on & not just assuming.

The scan tool will show the symptom or fault & it is up to us to figure out what caused it. Your proving it also prevents comebacks. You are happy & the customer is happy!

Hello to Eric & Mrs O.
I just replaced my wife’s 2013 GMC Terrain AWD, left front wheel bearing, last weekend.
I had watched this video before, I had to jack the wheel bearing out that same way.
Thank you so much for all your ideas and help.
I use Kopper Kote anti seize by Jet Lube, because if it is replaced again, I will be doing it.
Why do you not use anti seize? I have used Fluid Film before. I like Kopper Kote. Peratex makes a copper anti seize also.
I have done a 93 Plymouth Grand Voyager AWD like that. I could not get the bolts out of the spindle until the bearing was removed. Saves a lot of time on flat rate, plus like you said, no alignment.
    Hello from north east Montana.

My dad once said those bolts on caliber don't need to be so damn tight when I was doing good old "as tight as I can get it without too long extension" and then he proceeded to do the other side. Sure enough, the caliber got loose 100 km's later and I had to go and buy new bolts. Luckily it happened in a city I was passing by so no biggie.
Ah, all the fun times when working with the family on a project. :)

Eric, you got that right about the codes. Too many people don't read the code description and assume that it means to replace a part. It's aggravating when people shotgun parts at a car, then complain about it not being fixed. Whenever i get the chance, i teach people about reading the description and actually going thru the diags. Btw, i use a flexsocket and a short extension on an impact gun to get the wheel bearing bolts out. Never had any problems with tools getting stuck.

Fortunately when I have this issue on my car, which is more often than it should be, I can remove the axle bolt, push the axle in and see the tone ring. Saves me the hassle of removing the hub in case it’s not necessary. Though I confess it’s always the hub.

Since you use NAPA (not a sponsor), I received a flyer from RockAuto, using this example:
2013 GMC Yukon 5.3L Fuel Pump Assembly
    RockAuto Delphi $170.89
    O'Reilly Precision $251.99
    AutoZone Delphi $259.99
    Advance Delphi $276.99
    NAPA Delphi $292.29

When it comes to rock auto, you have to know what your looking for. As a technician myself, I shop there for certain parts. You can save money if you know what your looking for. And even then I’ll buy the $25 brakes and rotor package because I know how I drive and I’m not going to spend money on good brakes when I know I’m gonna be brutal on them.

I just bought a mazda mpv with the big 2.3 disi turbo. It had a shloppy timing chain so I replaced that, cranked it a while to get some oil pressure in the new vvt and chain tensioner. While I was doing that I noticed the sound of a dead hole, couldn't be happier right now!!!!!
