    This scene really got to me. I hated seeing Louis all broken and beaten up like that. I think when he tells Lestat to let him go, it has a dual meaning. I think he wants Lestat to release him from their relationship.

      Seems to me Louis is the one who has ahold of Lestat not the other way around.
      He literally does anything Louis asks him to do.
      And STILL as soon as Claudia showed up Louis like bye Cheri!
      That seemed to be the real reason he snapped.
      I mean look how they were living?? Lestat doesn’t want that but he stuck around, for Louie. He’s said it over and over everything he does is for Louie. Is it healthy? Oh hell no
      What is weird to me is whats so different about Claudia to Louis??
      She kills just as Lestat does hell probably more.
      Is she any different or is it just her appearance allow him to maintain another delusion that keeps him going thru his immortal life that he can pretend that he has a daughter/sister?

    What an amazing episode. My heart broke for Louis and Claudia. Book Lestat is abusive and while he never goes this far I do think this was the more realistic conclusion especially for the show. The show showed how insecure he is (his reaction to Louis and Jonah) and how anger he can get (his reaction to religion and what he did to the priest in episode 1). My favorite episode so far. I commend Jacob, Sam, Bailey for their amazing performances this episode.

    Some of these comments are not passing the vibe check 💀 y’all saying Louis is just as bad as Lestat while watching Lestat physically abuse his partner in front of his daughter is actually crazy. And yes, they’re vampires, so morality is grey but LESTAT himself spends 7 years apologizing because he KNOWS he was wrong. You can like Lestat’s character w/o absolving him of all wrongdoing and victim blaming Louis.

    • @up4Patron
      @up4Patron ปีที่แล้ว +35

      Actually he NEVER VICTIM BLAMED LOUIE if you look at it from Lestat point of view. You will see that it was him being verbally and emotionally abused by Louie, so yes it is just as bad. And two things one, Claudia is not their daughter she was made for Louie, despite Lestat warning him she will be physically stuck as a 14 year while mentally growing up. And two note at this point of the story the interviewer is reading Claudia’s diary. Which means this is her point of view. She sees Lestat has evil when he is indeed trying to teach her because she is know longer a human.

    The writers for the show adaptation as well as Jacob, Sam, & Bailey have just done a phenomenal job bringing Anne Rice’s world to life. This scene was so powerful & so hard to watch. Lestat treated Claudia like his own father. The highlight of the thin line between love & hate is so strong here. Lestat could face destroyed Claudia and Louis, but he didn’t. This was in my opinion a very bold move by the writers and very clever because this episode like last episode was based on the unreliable Narrator perspective of Claudia... does anyone pick up on how lestats manorism changed during the telling of this story and how they flew threw walls dust and debris is everywhere on everyone except lestat it's because it never happened the way Claudia describes it because she sees lestat as an adversary, evil , menacing and all power and she sees Louis as kind gentle and a victim thus she told the story to reflect that tone. My wife lean in as the scene was happening and she said to a child seeing their parents fight would seem as if the world was falling apart around them . Notice the house thw clutter does anyone think Louis or lestat could live like that NO it was Claudia's interpretation of her absence she even makes reference to it that she was to lestat nothing more than a maid . With a Claudia that ran off and an emotionally absent Louis. And just before this, suddenly, that Claudia returns after years and boldly claims Louis. And indeed a longing for pénetrating finally/intimacy through the blood-draining (because only through that action they can be more connected. In other circumstances the mind of the maker and the fledgling are blocked to each other). I actually felt for Lestat in this scene.

With that action and how he was saying how he has held back lets them both know (especially Claudia) that he dealt with her because of him and I would even guess some affection for her which is why he kept trying to keep her from going to Europe and why he got her off that train. Sure he cares for Louis but I think he cares for her in a way too. Powerful Intense Episode!! I Felt it on a few Levels.

      Even so, he’s fucked up. He literally created the hatred in the household directed towards him. He’s harsher towards Claudia instead of reassuring her that’s she’s loved and cared for. He emotionally manipulated and cheats on Louis, leaving him depressed and then wondering why Claudia is put off by his attempts to get close to her and tries to put that off on the both of them.
      He is the abusive husband and father archetype. Louis is the doting mother and loving wife archetype. And Claudia is the child who has to bear the brunt of it all

    • @hills161
      @hills161 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      So not condoning Lestat but here are a few things to consider, for those who've read the books it's easier to connect this with Lestat in the series
      1. Lestat hates abandonment, he hates it because it takes him a while to find his people, his father and brother's weren't his people, his mother tries her best but it's hard for her to give him that closeness he craves, there's Nicky but then he loses him, same thing with Marius and now here he finally has Louis and that person wants to abadon him. This stirs up resentment a what don't I have complex especially when Louis seems to like Claudia who's so much like him just fine.
      2. Louis doesn't mean to but he can be judgy, even Claudia admits that but when you're judgy in a relationship with someone who wants to share everything about themselves with you,they clam up or at least I would.
      3. Everyone seems to revert to calling Claudia Lestat's daughter but she isn't, she always calls him Uncle Les and I believe that was a decision by the writer to put distance between them. In the books Claudia is a five/six year old she depends on them both as parents and the telepathy is not emphasized, it's easy for Lestat to relate to her, cause she needs him and he loves being needed but in the series she's fourteen, she's not dependant on his care, she has a telepathic connection with Louis and uses it, something Lestat doesn't have to either of them,so for him he has a rival to Louis affection, no matter how platonic the rival might be. Hence he's reluctant to see her as more.
      So like I said not condoning his behaviors and Louis should have hit and bruised him a lot more in ep6 😅. But I think this opens Lestat up a bit more.

      @@tosmaayes? He is 100+ years old vampire, people are just a nightly meal for him and Louis is the person he chose to spend a literal eternity with. Putting violence committed towards them on the same level is just ridiculous. No matter how much Louis insists on the opposite, they are not people anymore, they literally have different brain structure at this point. The only reason vampires act generally benevolent towards humans is because they are interesting, fresh and have potential to absolve them of their loneliness. But those are fundamentally different relationship, one is trivial preadtor-prey-cat-playing-with-the-food and another is eternal doomed soulmates, which makes such violence in the latter one more concerning. In books Lestat would go around killing literal babies, but there is no instances of him going ham on Louis and beating the shit out of him despite still being a much stronger vampire even there. So yeah, his abusiveness so extreme in the show would of course surprise book readers and make them wonder whether there is something more to what happened than Lestat just being more violent in tv version.

    Great to see this powerful scene. Someone best me to it. I am honestly blown away like watching this in a way I can't believe. How real they made this series is just amazing and I did not think they could ever do a job like they did.
    Like certain parts of this episode I forgot to breathe, goosebumps, just deep stuff. Definitely you can tell Anne Rice has a lot of creative control. They should always have a lot of creative control. Like that's how Game Of Thrones went down like a tank. No one at all half smart respects the way Game Of Thrones ended. It all started after like season 4 or 5. George RR Martin hadn't wrote the books like he was supposed to and the writers at HBO lost what to do. **A lot of people give the HBO guys a lot of shit how bad they ended the show. But think it out, how they gonna fill the shoes of George RR Martin? Like what did they really expect? Them to continue to write the books too? Like they didn't know that was comingbwhej they signed up for the job. Their job is to make other people's shit look good. Not to write it. So I got off track.
    This episode got me back watching it cause I almost gave up on it after the Claudia episode. I thought it got childish with the kind of odd corny jokes. Now after reading some of you kind folks stuff, I know I'm not alone when I see this show develope. It's been so long but I always remember the way Anne Rice books went. Very unique, very passionate, loves rich history, just so great to read.
    This guy who is acting as Lestat, bet he don't get the awards he deserves. It's almost like the actor is literally how Anne Rice made Lestat be. Wow they really presented it in such a deep way. Wish there were discussing these episodes.

That’s why the shots are so tight focused on Lestat biting and drinking and Louis panting and trying (and failing) to push him off of him. It’s also a call back to the first time they floated while making love consensually. Now they’re floating while Lestat is allegorically raping Louis.
