    We had an epic ride here in NYC last week of over 50+ riders on electric boards I don’t think I saw anyone with a Ownboard or Wowgo board. Probably hasn’t made it up here yet. Watch our latest video when you get a chance of how big the boarding community has gotten here.... also, I think I’ll stick with belt. Definitely more power IMO.

      Oh damn! Was that the one Sam Sheffer vlogged about? Looked dope! I’ll check your vid out. The community here isn’t as robust, I’d love to have that many people to ride with!!

      NatAli Baby Sup man I'm from NYC queens man. I just finished my Frankenstein board. It use to have meepo parts but now it has meepo hub motors, wowgo vsc, wowgo metal covers , wowgo remote all on a loaded deck . When do u guys meet up and what time?

      Dirty Ribz 👋 I’m from Queens too. Wow! Sounds like you made an awesome board there. I’d love to see it, maybe on the next meet? Follow Boostedboard Riders NYC on FB. So far no word of the next meet but they’ll definitely post it on there.

    HEY. I dont think its fair to compare a high end belt drive to low end/ budget hub moter drive. I dont think its a very good review/ "vs" video considering the price point of the boosted is like 3 times more expensive compared to the chinese ownboard / meepo/ wowgo. You should compare boosted to the enersion raptor 2.0, which are both high end boards.
    dont get me wrong. i think its an amazing video and good explination, but not fair to the hub motor boards.

      @120thevortex 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      also worth saying that belt driven boards dont get more power and torque. the amount of performance you get out of the motors depends on how much you pay

    • @matts6551
      @matts6551 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bro you got me in stitches right now. A boosted board is only expensive because of the hype it’s ridiculous Fanbase creates. That ownboard he has in the video has served me very well. I’ve put over 2000 miles on it in 2 years and I’m still on the stock wheels, stock motor, stock grip tape... stock everything. After all that time the battery still registers at 96% when full. Plus ownboard is still thriving in business, can’t say the same about Boosted and their bankruptcy issues

    I mean, aren’t you going to experience vibration by nearly riding on any ground? How can you notice vibration on Hubs from riding on the road? I don’t understand what you mean.

    • @Chevsterful
      @Chevsterful 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Less wheel for hubs since the motor takes up about 70% of the wheel diameter.

    • @matts6551
      @matts6551 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      On a moderately smooth road you hardly feel any vibration. I mean you skate on a regular longboard you will feel vibrations. Let’s not be ridiculous about this, it’s a skateboard… Besides larger wheels there is no shock absorption other than what deck you have. I have about 2000 miles on a hub onwboard and can attest to this.!

  • @thetroothhurtz
    @thetroothhurtz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    Hub Motors are WAYYY better. Way less bulky, doesn't hit as many rocks, doesn't have as many moving parts, doesn't get as dirty inside, and doesn't have that stupid antiquated belt. Watch Boosted come out with a Hub Motor option and call it "New and revolutionizing!!" LOL.

    • @raynman6466
      @raynman6466 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Belt driven has more customization. If you want to buy a board and go because you don't like modifying things get a hub motor

    • @RenoLaringo
      @RenoLaringo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hubs are like McDonalds hamburgers, Belt driven are the 5star restaurant. They're just dedicated to different people. Couldn't-care-less people vs mechanically inclined ones.

  • @jaygee7749
    @jaygee7749 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I tend to push my boards to the very limit of their battery capacity and I'm too poor to buy an extra battery 😂, which means often end up kicking my board part of the way so belt-driven is just a no-go for me

  • @rustler08
    @rustler08 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I own an Ownboard and a BB V2+. There are no vibrations from the hub motors themselves, but there is a definite difference in torque. The BB has zero issues with any of the steep hills, which are all 10 degrees+, while the Ownboard drops off very quickly. Also, the BB is so much smoother on rough pavement. The Ownboard has so many vibrations, where you get all the buzzing through your feet, while the BB feels almost like you're on smooth pavement. And I'm still on stock wheels. I imagine a soft 97mm would be even better.
    Overall, for where I live, the BB is the better board. I need the torque to climb my steep hills, something the hub motors struggle with. But, in a relatively flat area, I would be 100% okay with a hub-motor board.

    • @justinbravo
      @justinbravo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea man I think you nailed it! I’d be interested in throwing on some 97mm too!

    • @zappous6758
      @zappous6758 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      rustler08 rewatch the only reason it was vibrating so much is because the table under the ownboard is curved while the BB has a completely flat table under it

    • @joshoconnor9666
      @joshoconnor9666 ปีที่แล้ว

      My area is nothing but super steep hills. My hub motor flies up the hills to the point I have to brake and not even on the highest setting. Shud of not bought a crap board is what it sounds like. I'm like 210lb rider too.

  • @sirclives
    @sirclives 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Highly doubt hub motor tech can progress any more than it has, besides power increasing the small amount of p.u. will also add to the feel of the board when you go over cracks and bumps being uncomfortable. I've tried both setups and for me the small advantages provided by hubs is not enough to even begin to consider them as better. The mechanical advantage of belts hands down alone is a reason to choose them over hubs. In my humble opinion.

    • @justinbravo
      @justinbravo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear ya! Belt driven definitely has the edge for the foreseeable future! Only thing I like about hubs is the quietness

    At first, I thought a hub was a belt motor with a urethane wrap but the gearing makes the torque. But that's not the case because of the sound and the ability to push. So I wonder if they can combine the two

  • @ICKY427
    @ICKY427 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    it seems to me like the difference in noise and free rolling resistance is in the motors themselves, not the inherent characteristics of the belt system. theres no way a rubber belt is making all that noise. and it isnt the fact its belt driven that gives it more power, surely its just a bigger motor.

    • @esk8spirit362
      @esk8spirit362 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      it's the mode they run in. THe sound you hear is the BLDC, the electric impulses. Those chinese hubs use some not very good mode that is quiet though, cannot be run in vast speeds and is not really efficient. With the highest quality VESC you can use the superior FOC mode that is insanely smooth and almost as quiet as hubs, also more efficient than even BLDC.

    hi nice review,,,,is a belt system better than hub motors if you get caught out in the rain ?, a week ago my first electric meppo style board lasted less than a couple of minutes in a down poor that came with out warning and it was the hub motors that failed. fixed now but need a board/ different motors (30kph) for a daily commute that don't mind getting a little wet, thanks

      Less drag so I would think most times you would be better with hubs

    • @matts6551
      @matts6551 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can get my hub motor board up to 24 mph and when I let off the throttle I can coast for quite awhile. So definitely better Range with hubs... that’s not even up for debate

  • @user-bd3fn8ee4k
    @user-bd3fn8ee4k 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Hub is better; it is quieter, usually more reliable, allows the board to coast easily, and if paired with a good esc such as meepo’s, it will perform just as well as some top tier belt motors. (Especially if it has a mode that jacks up the torque)

      I have to disagree. Beside raptor 2 belt motors wins on acceleration and torque over any hub.

    • @JesseHMR
      @JesseHMR 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually the meepo v2p has pretty much the same acceleration as a boosted but a faster top speed and the Raptor 2 is pretty much the only high end board with a hub we are comparing budget boards 350dollar boards vs 1k+boards I think hubs still have room for evolution, more power, better braking but direct drive is the future.
      Hubs are a lot more recent and the technology is catching up its only a mater of time until we find raptor style hubs on cheap eboards

    I would like to see someone compare the ride using the same deck and trucks. The vibration is a red herring, it would have minimal effect on the ride. The deck, trucks, Bushings and padding make a huge difference. Boosted has higher quality everything compared to cheaper Chinese boards.

    • @justinbravo
      @justinbravo  6 ปีที่แล้ว
