    Any chance someone with experience can explain the pros and cons to jumping forward in the snatch and clean & jerk? I want to know about the upsides to Nasar's novel technique. I try to look online, but I just see threads about how its either "bad technique" with no acknowledgement to the upsides of jumping forward, or how we shouldn't even question this future olympian's style. Thanks

      @michaelspangenberg7108 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      His technique isn't ideal but he makes it work. It's far from standard and derivatives a lot from textbook. Jumping forward (or backwards) is indicating an imbalance during the first and second pull. Jumping in either direction is you compensating what you have done "not ideal" during the first phases trying to make up for this ;) In his style it's pretty noticeable that his hips shoot up fast of the start which normally causes the hips shooting forward in contact, creating a forward momentum of the bar he has to chase in the catch (and well, accomplishes that) 😊

    • @Zachary_Cordova
      @Zachary_Cordova 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I assume he simply gets enough bar height because of his ridiculous hip thrust power, which is responsible for the forward bar path that he then compensates for. I wouldn’t say there is a clear benefit to jumping forward, but it is an adaptation to his strength/technique in the first pull.

    • @hookgrip4jesus310
      @hookgrip4jesus310 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      There really aren't any positives to jumping in either direction in the snatch or clean. Karlos just gets away with bad technique because he's Karlos. He will even admit (and has done so several times) that his technique isn't the best, but he can't work on it too much at the moment because he's neck-deep in peaking for Paris.
      And yes, I am calling it "bad technique" even though he grossly outlifts me. Both things can be true, and oftentimes are. Karlos does a lot of things very well in his lifts-he keeps the bar close during the pull and meets it well in the catch-but he can (and likely will) definitely still improve a lot.

    • @davidgymrat
      @davidgymrat 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      He is obviously a posterior chain dominant lifter and you can see he's got long femurs that makes shooting the hip first an advantageous compensation for better hamstring engagement (like doing RDL or stiff leg DL). For long femur lifters, maintaining fixed angles at the knee and the hip during 1st pull might not stimulate enough hamstring thus put all the pressure on the quads, which is very bad for speed. The more ideal way is to have a higher hip starting position like the Russians because it gives you tension at the hamstring before you pull the slack out of the bar.

    • @hookgrip4jesus310
      @hookgrip4jesus310 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @davidgymrat there's a difference between starting the lift with your hips higher (a totally fine technical nuance, I will agree with you 100% on that) and doing what Karlos does. If he didn't basically do a squat before he starts pulling, I wouldn't really say anything, but I can neither say that his technique is optimal in this regard, nor can I recommend anyone else try emulating it-for just about anyone else, it'll just cause the bar to drift forward off the floor, and you won't have the ooga booga strength like Karlos to pull yourself forward to catch it after extension.
      Edit: if you want a much better technical model for tall, lanky/long-legged lifters, look at Szymon Kołecki.
