I honestly like the 3D Grievous better, he just seems so much more realistic, and honestly a bit cooler. The 2D Grievous looks a lot less badass when you actually watch the fight scenes, the Jedi look like poor fighters, and honestly, so does Grievous, he just kinda waves his lightsabers around while the 3D Grievous looks like he’s actually doing something.
Dude please shut up with these comments, Grievous is WAY better in the movies and TCW, just because hes "more powerful" in the micro series, doesnt mean the ROTS and TCW Grievous has a lesser value.
Ever since the clone wars microseries Grievous became my favorite character, and when I saw him on screen my stomach dropped. I was so massively dissapointed. Grievous was actually THE main reason I was excited for ep.3 and he was so vastly opposite of how he was portrayed in the cartoon. In the cartoon he was TERRIFYING. Not a coward in any sense. He made his ENEMIES run away and he could not only hold his own against a dozen Jedi masters but take them out with relative ease. That's a much better character than what we got. I also wish they had kept his entire design to porcelain white. The solitary white has an eerie aesthetic to it which lends itself well to the menacing visage of grievous.
6:50 the coolest part of this video is not only how comprehensive informative and organized it is, but also how it's super reflective (like the example of comparing his consent to body modification to Vader's forced upgrades)
Thank you very much for this video! Loved it! Grievous has always been my favorite Star Wars character. I would love to see a Krennic or Count Dooku video too!
Grievous original backstory was much better/involved far more world-building. It actually included a good deal of history about him and his relationship to his people and their conflict with another alien species which the Republic and the Jedi sided with, even though they where the aggressors, due to the Republic's bloated political structure not bothering with finding out what was really going on. This was the source of Grievous hatred for the Republic and especially the Jedi and is a damn stronger motivation for his character then being salty over the equivalent of not being chosen to play on the Jedi's kickball team. In other words, the Republic and the Jedi, through their carelessness and callousness, created this monster that ended up murdering billions including many Jedi and helped ultimately destroy the Republic.
My favorite character in all of Star Wars. But it's completely unforgivable how they changed his backstory. It made him completely unsympathetic and further proves that Legends is better than Disney canon 100 times over. -RJK.
The creativity of the designs of characters, planets and everything is astounding. It seems almost impossible to create such a perfect looking character like Grevious. And don't even get me started with the Darth Vader look.
I love Grievous because despite not being force sensitive and weakened by his injuries, grievous is still able to not only hold his own in duels with just one jedi, but many at once, and reliably killing hundreds of them over the short 4 years of his lifetime as Jedi hunter and General.
@@strikerecho2592 unrelenting advance will only partially work of you hold the block button but only if you wanna do it for the memes would I suggest trying
nothing will take away the depiction of Grievous by Genndys 2003 clone wars series, and love your link of the transition from Grievous to Vader as cyborgs.
Just about my favorite character in all of Star Wars, his design anyway. My favorite incarnation would have to be the Clone Wars micro-series version. Not only do I love his more eloquent and dignified voice, his ferocity when it came to his fights was much more fitting for a Jedi slaying war lord. The canon version is fine, but I prefer the ruthless cyborg general to not be so ready to flee and be a coward.
I’m not usually into scary characters but I watched the movie recently. I think the scenes with him in are so beautifully designed. I love how he appears hunched over , coughing and moves in a really sickly way throughout the movie then when he fights obi wan he stands upright , then shows he has 4 arms, then he spins them showing he has some skill , then he spins his lightsabers rapidly. That’s what I liked about him and how they filmed. There’s a constant upward escalation with how cool he is. The first part of the movie he’s in shows his demeanor so well, then his abilities are shown well in the fight scene, whilst also shocking you. I know I’m kind of stating obvious stuff sorry it’s just cool to me. I’m not really interested in Star Wars extended media so to me when obi wan fights him it’s their first meeting.
Oh and also sorry I also wanted to mention whilst I’m not really into Star Wars stuff besides the 3 Star Wars movies that exist and the spin off prequels XD I don’t see why people act as if the movie version of the character and cartoon version are the same. They’re completely different-.-
Lucas' decision to make Grievous a coward in both Ep3 and the Clone Wars cgi series, completely destroying the terrifying version from the cartoons is one of the worst decisions in all of Star Wars production history.
UberKuma84 yeah, it wasn’t smart. I understand they didn’t want to make another “Sidious” or “Vader” but I’m sure there were better alternatives that cowardly. How does a coward that flees get to the rank of commander and to be one of the most feared generals/commanders if the dude runs away all the time
UberKuma84 Lol, Grievous always have been a coward, even in the 2003 series. Remember back in the 2003 Clone Wars cartoon when Dooku told Grievous that in order for him to win against the best Jedi, he needed to have fear, surprise and intimidation on his side. If even one wasn't, his best course was just run. Obi-Wan (one of the best Jedi) wasn't afraid not intimidated by Grievous, and in fact he was just appeased/calmed. Grievous was right in trying to run from Obi-Wan. Unfortunately, Obi-Wan was able to keep up. While in the 2003 TV series' Grievous always fought against scared, surprised or exhausted Jedi. That was why he could beat them that easy, because he had all that elements on his side. Example: When he fought with Mace Windu, the Jedi wasn't scared or intimidated and he could beat Grievous easily. What did Grievous do? Run, because he didn't have those elements on his side. And we are talking about the 2003 version.
UberKuma84 Actually, seeing as Grievous' chest was crushed it made perfect sense for Grievous to be weaker. And Dave Filoni made him weaker in the CGI Clone Wars from 2008. Not George Lucas.
@Julen Sanchez Abad In addition in that infamous scene (and my favorite of the character) from the 2003 series where he butchers all the Jedi, then the Clone Gunship crashes through the wall you can see Grievous tense up at it. He's got a real scanning look on his face, as if he's considering running or staying to fight. Ultimately he decides to keep his distance, not fully run but retreat so it couldn't hurt him. That's also him being cowardly when the elements aren't on his side.
From what i've recently heard, someone who played the alpha for Battlefront 2 managed to comb through some of the files and see some of the heroes that will be in the game at launch, among which Grievous is indeed one of them but no actual word yet on his abilities, either way I'm excited to play him once more
He only coughed in the invisible hand, probably because of his recent encounter with Mace. Once he gets to Utapau he only makes his weird noises, I always liked to think that when he got somewhere safe after escaping Anakin and Obi-Wan, he got the issue fixed.
@AManNamed2 the show only improved the prequels. The didn't fuck it up. Even in the movie grievous and Kenobi talk like they know each other to some point. Only anakin says he expected him to look different and that was kept true. Anakin and grievous never meet during clone wars
making Grievous's weakness being cowardice seems like a bad choice to me. If you were to look at it from both the original and the current(shitty) canon, Grievous being a coward wouldn't make any sense. Being a capable warrior before doesn't support cowardice being his weakness. Regardless of whether or not he chose to have the robot body doesn't change the fact that now he's a capable warrior with a robot body, essentially opening up multiple doors that an organic body can't afford. Him knowing that he can get his limbs chopped off without fear of repercussions should have made his flaws foolhardiness from his easily replaceable robot body, and anger from his past as a warrior. These two do show up to some extent, but not embellished enough in the movie and following animation series. The original animation series really captured his persona as a warrior who's anger and foolhardiness often gets in the way of his logical judgment. finally, if grievous was supposed to be a denizen of the dark side, then anger by far should have been his greatest asset. But grievous's anger and jealousy of the Jedi order should have been so great that it would become his downfall. This could have easily demonstrated the flaws of Sith ideology in the early movies, and would have been the perfect ideological irony that Vader would face in the original trilogy.
I agree. Him being a coward doesn't make much sense, especially how he brags about being a god fighter and showing off his sabers. Plus he has a near endless army to boot. I like that they tried to make him human, but him being the butt of every joke ruins all the potential he had. I just wish they showed some scenes of him beating a bunch of jedi to show him as a actual threat. If I remember right, I don't think he beat anyone on camera. He only said he did.
Why I love Grievous- His dope appearance His intimidating voice and cough His op fighting style in the old 2004 clone wars His super deep backstory And you can't go wrong with his theme, am I right??
I have two things, one, I wish they would've kept the up-right posture, It would make him much taller....and better. Second, 8:51, that part made my heart melt, I know it's just an actor, but still, when he shook the lil' kid's hand I died of pure joy.
2:11 I didn't even notice that. Every droid in the prequels (including Grievous) was so useless that it's hard to remember anything about them, even something like that. Grievous himself was also killed off right after his introduction. So in that sense he really was the perfect droid general.
When you say behind the scenes- I expected him to be sat in one of those set chairs, cross legged. Holding a coffee in one hand, a cigarette in another whilst scratching his head with the 3rd and expressing his emotions with the 4th, explaining to the camera how much more challenging Ewan McGregor was with the dummy sabers.
Grievous became a cyborg after his make a mistake with his employer so his employer began to talk with the sith so the sith planet a bomb in Grievous's personal ship. The bomb was made to partionally injure him. The sith quickly went, retrieved his remains, and stabilised him. Then made the offer, they told him that the jedi planted the bomb, so their offer was life for Grievous but he must serve the sith. In return the sith would help Grievous's planet because his planet was in great poverty after the war against other who resided on the planet. Grievous had no choice but to accept the offer, he needed to help his planet. It's sad when you think about it, he was lied to, tricked, and hurt by the enemy.

Zach Hecita I prefer the 2008 series version.
Captain Rex of the 501st yeah, why?
I’m glad we didn’t get that
Wtf is wrong with people. Just because someone has a diffrent opinion that doesnt mean it gives you the right to shit on them.
@@NotLum1 is weird I like all his incarnation
I think it's kinda freaky he chose to gradually turn himself into a cyborg.
he didn't no one likes Filoni's version
7:36 how have I never noticed this? his hands clearly clip through his body wtf
ikbenmaaten never noticed that cool
I love all of the videos you have produced so far! You put a lot of time into them I can tell! I can't wait to see more
That One Stormtrooper Thanks a lot, I appreciate your appreciation! Have a good week
Grievous was bad ass in the micro clone wars series in the CGI one they mostly turned him into a punchline
Punchline?
matthew mann he wasn’t even weak but just nerfed and even in canon grievous is extremely powerful
@The MacSo ever heard of opinions?
Grevious appeared in the Kanan comics last year, where he duelled Depa Billaba on Mygeeto.
Grievous
You don't want to mess with him.
Thats right.
I love how Grievous' voice is just the head sound guy and George coughing while sick.
I love grievous
I've seen this video multiple times in recommended but I just decided to finally watch it and it happens to be exactly a year after it was uploaded.
My favorite character in all of Star Wars. But it's completely unforgivable how they changed his backstory. It made him completely unsympathetic and further proves that Legends is better than Disney canon 100 times over.
-RJK.
It was mostly changed back to the og one, the newer version is only a legend in-universe.
@@Dass_Jennir thank god
The creativity of the designs of characters, planets and everything is astounding. It seems almost impossible to create such a perfect looking character like Grevious. And don't even get me started with the Darth Vader look.
Nice you used my concept art 😀 Nice vid btw 😀👍
The Falcon Jedi 😀😀
The Falcon Jedi your concept art is awesome, keep up the good work
I love Grievous because despite not being force sensitive and weakened by his injuries, grievous is still able to not only hold his own in duels with just one jedi, but many at once, and reliably killing hundreds of them over the short 4 years of his lifetime as Jedi hunter and General.
Grievous is the coolest character in star wars
Grievous was far from a coward in the 2003 clone wars!
1:48 This is the Grievous we deserved.
the grievous we wanted o3o
9:03 Man that General Grievous theme sounds so good for a background music.
That music is sick [at the beginning]
Im so glad you make these videos dude their all the questions ive been asking for years finally answer efficiently
When battlefront 2 comes out, Grievous would be the only villian i would play.
He's hard to play
Xxeffect Well at least he is a one hit killing machine against infantry (with the exception of the heavy class and enforcer units).
@@strikerecho2592 Just make sure you don't EVER use unrelenting advance or thrust surge

nothing will take away the depiction of Grievous by Genndys 2003 clone wars series, and love your link of the transition from Grievous to Vader as cyborgs.
i LOVE that beat in the background :D
I love your videos, Behind Star Wars!
All Hail general Grievous.
I never noticed that the statues in TCW showed as you said the gradual progression into his cyborg state. Cool!
Grievous is one of my favorite SW characters. Too bad he only lived 6 minutes.
A Tie-In Grievous model between clone wars and revenge of the sith?! That would've been awesome!!!
They’re completely different-.-
@@MogusMasterSaikawa22 They are the same tho.
I don’t think so they’re completely different
Lucas' decision to make Grievous a coward in both Ep3 and the Clone Wars cgi series, completely destroying the terrifying version from the cartoons is one of the worst decisions in all of Star Wars production history.
UberKuma84 yeah, it wasn’t smart. I understand they didn’t want to make another “Sidious” or “Vader” but I’m sure there were better alternatives that cowardly. How does a coward that flees get to the rank of commander and to be one of the most feared generals/commanders if the dude runs away all the time
UberKuma84
Lol, Grievous always have been a coward, even in the 2003 series.
He was a beast in dark horse comic
@Julen Sanchez Abad In addition in that infamous scene (and my favorite of the character) from the 2003 series where he butchers all the Jedi, then the Clone Gunship crashes through the wall you can see Grievous tense up at it. He's got a real scanning look on his face, as if he's considering running or staying to fight. Ultimately he decides to keep his distance, not fully run but retreat so it couldn't hurt him. That's also him being cowardly when the elements aren't on his side.
From what i've recently heard, someone who played the alpha for Battlefront 2 managed to comb through some of the files and see some of the heroes that will be in the game at launch, among which Grievous is indeed one of them but no actual word yet on his abilities, either way I'm excited to play him once more
Its too bad in Episode III he coughs like a damn Marlboro addicted aunt who fights with your dad every time she comes over.
The micro series covered that
He only coughed in the invisible hand, probably because of his recent encounter with Mace. Once he gets to Utapau he only makes his weird noises, I always liked to think that when he got somewhere safe after escaping Anakin and Obi-Wan, he got the issue fixed.
This voice is perfect for asmr, so calm and chill.
Grievous literally could have killed obiwan if he didn’t just throw him. Or if he didn’t have that stupid gap in his chest armor
If it helps he almost kills him A LOT in the clone wars series but you know plot armor and “the good always win” bs
@AManNamed2 the show only improved the prequels. The didn't fuck it up. Even in the movie grievous and Kenobi talk like they know each other to some point. Only anakin says he expected him to look different and that was kept true. Anakin and grievous never meet during clone wars
Wdym gap?
@@pilkers2 the gap that Obi wan managed to get his hands into to pull his chest plate open
@@alexbourgeois7863 the gap usually isn’t there it was probably made when Obiwan forced pushed grievous against the wall
This video will make a fine addition to my collection
making Grievous's weakness being cowardice seems like a bad choice to me.
I have no weakness!
Olli Konttinen Hah! I’ve killed more of their kind than you can count! They do not scare me!
Olli Konttinen It’s easy to intimidate them when you’ve killed so many!
General Grievous nice

His op fighting style in the old 2004 clone wars
His super deep backstory

I have two things, one, I wish they would've kept the up-right posture, It would make him much taller....and better. Second, 8:51, that part made my heart melt, I know it's just an actor, but still, when he shook the lil' kid's hand I died of pure joy.

general grievous had the high ground vs obi wan?
Christopher Kopke ...no...
But Obi Wan was secretly wearing an armor plated with plot.
Well obi wan didn't care since he has studied the high ground for years. And so he beat him ofc
Obi Wan IS the High Ground
*I hAve tHe hiGH GRouNd*
Dude Han being raised by Chewy as an orphan is such a better backstory than the one they gave him in the Disney origins movie.
It's sad when you think about it, he was lied to, tricked, and hurt by the enemy.
english
Preston Garvy god his legends backstory is so much better than his canon one
When Grievous began rotating those lightsabres while walking towards Obi Wan I genuinely gor terrified. Plus an android that coughs is always a win
I like his design. It looks like his armor is made from bones?
"inspired" by the kaleesh armors o3o
cuz he a kaleesh boi his armor looks kaleesh u3u
I love how you say he’s likely to show up in battlefront 2 even though he had already been confirmed at the time of this video.
Legends Grievous Forever.
He has my favorite theme music too its just the separatist theme but it's also his and its grand but also sinister and intimidating.
He sort of contrasts what happens to Anakin
1:00- 1:12 called it

I think that such general grievoius is good desined. What was in episode 3.
George lucas choosed right.
Great video! Keep up the good work!
so most of the droids are based on cream sprayer caps :)) xD
Fuck yeah, I was hoping Grievous would be next! :D
The only thing I think is bad about the design is the exposed organs, it makes no sense for practicality
He’s able to close and open armor plating surrounding them in the 2D series.Wish they kept that.
obi wan broke two pieces of steel open... with bare hands. w h a t
Cykon Dacot yeah plot armor does that to you 😂
