A good way to check for exhaust leaks is you plug one of the mufflers with a towel and then you put a shop vac with the air blowing out into the other muffler and then you can just feel around all the connections for air coming out.
The scud has to have one of the best automated manual boxes ever. My absolute dream car, no matter how much money I had this would be the first car I bought 👌
I agree. I love my F430 and would only sell it to fund a Scud. Stupidly waited til Scuds are at an astronomical price. Years ago, the delta was only 20k
Good tuners are worth their weight in gold. I've been using Jags Gill from ECU Tuning Group since 2008. He solved a CEL on my R8 that the dealer could not figure out. Most "tuners" just copy the same tune over and over again. Dealerships no longer have full Bosch diagnostic capabilities; they simply upload files to the factory when there is a problem to try to figure it out. Lot's of forum wars as to which company has the best tuner. If you find one that works for you stick with him/her.
Hey Dan, would you make a course on teaching how to work on Ferraris? I have an F12 and always got stuck at how to properly removing the plastic clips. ie. removing the hose connections to the throttle body and MAF. The shop manual sometimes are not clear, such as changing the DCT oil. Which pump tools to buy and where to feed the fluid etc. Some of your videos help, but if there is something that's more comprehensive and premium I think it will definitely help a lot of us. Also if you have "tutor" sessions that would be awesome too.
I guess this was a cat delete? I wasn’t paying attention. Just thinking a cel would show up due to an exhaust leak, but if you’re catless with extenders, it would probably show up anyway. I ran my 355 catless for a bit. 90° mini-cat extenders kept me cel free. Love the scud!
Hi Dan - I'm not sure if you've been asked this before - If a pristine 458 Italia became available, would you take it over the 430 Scud (I know you've owned a 458 Italia in the past)? (I'm sure you'd take a 458 Speciale)
I would redo the gasket set for another new one like you said. I don’t think you can reuse the old one it’s already compressed down from first install at factory.
Just get a piece of rubber hose about 3’ long. Have the car running up on the lift. Put one end of the hose to your ear and explore around the exhaust with the other end. You will quickly be able to hear the leak
Dan do you guys use that Capistro exhaust bracket that is spring loaded to prevent the headers from cracking or are the new headers strong enough to not have that problem?
Don’t give up, no doubt you’ll resolve it! I think I’d prefer leaving the original exhaust as is. Unless I am missing something it is not problematic enough to justify an upgrade. Unlike on a 355 for example.
Down right just love the Scud Dan. In your car, it def does sound better and different. One of our members OEM Scud sounded difft than yours. He drives it hard though. Hence in my comment on your previous vid that you were shifting a little too early from 2nd to 3rd. Ya did great as always. Lmk if and when you are abour to list it for sale.
@@normalguysupercar haha that's tough, i care A LOT about sound. ive been looking at getting into a higher mileage scud or 458 spider within the next 1.5 years, and sound is definitely going to be a big deciding factor for me. definitely want to utilize your consulting service down the road if that's a service you're still offering.
I am surprised it sounds somewhat similar to the 458 in the higher range….i love the ipe on my 458 but I think I actually prefer the original scud sound since they r very different. The 458 sound kinda lacks a bit of character out of the box vs the 430 imo, so I think the Kline/ipe def improves it. If u only have a 430 I think this is a great upgrade for that f1 sound, but if u have both I think it’s worthwhile keeping scud factory for that growl and diff enough of a sound (since it’s already straight piped with valves open from the factory)
The new exhaust sounds way better valves open. But the original exhaust sounded better valves closed. Overall great job. Wonderful car. And no I'm not hating on you brother. Stay safe. Please take good care of the car. This will increase dramatically in value one day. I promise. It's one of the best ferraris ever made. 👏🙏🤍
Love this channel ❤
Glad you enjoy it! Thank you
That is one of the greatest sounds man has ever created
Haha it's pretty damn good

Interesting idea.
New exhaust sounds unbelievable 👍
Thank you
It screams! It sounds like I am watching a GP when you open it up. Worth every penny. I bet it sounds so much better in real life
Yeah it's even better in real life
The exhaust is a work of art and of hard work.
It turned a nice blue color after getting hot. Really cool looking
Oh my. That valvetronic is amazing.
Oh yes
Glorious sounds every car should sound that well.
OH yes.
The new exhaust sounds fantastic! Another great job Dan.
Thanks!
You hear the difference at higher rpm for sure.... such a great art piece for an exhaust....
Couldn't agree more!

wow. those downshifts are intoxicating!!! well done!
Hell yes
What a lovely sound!!!!
Yes indeed
Valvetronic makes a perfect exhaust for 430s and 599s, opens it up for the better. ❤
I'm pretty darn pleased with it
Would love a ringtone of that last pull!
Haha

Yup agreed
10 out of 10 on the sound.
Agreed
I don't know, I kind of like the original sound of the 430. It's unique. Needs a manual valve control and that's it.
yes the original pot sounds more voluminous and better at low speeds
I'm gonna have to strongly disagree
You can’t buy class…..
the new exhaust was better but only by a little. wasn't worth the cost and time imho.

I'm not sure I want to get that detailed. That's pretty challenging
That sounds incredible damn...probably sounds absolutely bonkers in person!
It's pretty nuts
lol I thought the same thing as Josh, bolting everything back together before checking that it runs right? Looks and sounds great though!
Thank you
Love your video 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks so much!
“I’m not crying, I just have something in my eye”
Lol yup
Sounds great !
Thank you
Sounds very similar to the Kline exhaust, but I guess that is expected with the Kline being similar in design. That Scud transmission is glorious BTW.
I absolutely love the Scud shifts

Cel won't normally show for exhaust leaks unless they are severe
On long drives I wear ear protection in mine as it is so loud. Can’t imagine how loud this is😮
It's not quiet. Lol

Honestly I'm not sure. The Scud is pretty special
What is your microphone and cam setup on the car?
GoPro with rode video mic pro

Yeah

Yeah
Dan do you guys use that Capistro exhaust bracket that is spring loaded to prevent the headers from cracking or are the new headers strong enough to not have that problem?
We used it on Josh's car because his previous exhaust mounts were broken and the Capristo is cheaper than the factory. Lol
Nice updates! So what's wrong with the Black 430? Just throwing a temper?
Yeah it was some weird stuff. We will fix it
Your eyes are not replaceable and I enjoy your videos. So please, for the longevity of this channel, wear some eye protection.
Yeah
I tell him All. The. Time.

The factory headers can fail but it's mostly about the sound
Damn Josh. Definitely a leak somewhere. I think it sounds amazing. A lot of work, though. It’s screaming with the valves open.
Heck yeah

I'll sell it anytime for the right price. Let me know if you want it. 😁
@@normalguysupercar will let u work out all the kinks and let us know more details about her.
I thought the factory exhaust sounded good but the little bit of extra crackle on the new exhaust with the valves open…WOW!
Oh yes
Could ur leak be due to the new header?
Certainly the question is was it the reused gasket or something else
Sounds bad ass!!!
It is!
It’s a screamer, man. I think it’s bad ass
I love it
High volume neighborhood run please!!!! Wakey wakey 😂
Lol good morning neighbors
Sounds awesome Dan. I'm going to have to do the tune as well. O2 eliminates didn't do shit. LOL
Yeah I've had 0 of them work. Lol!
Does your 430 scud or 458 get closer to an F1 sound?
That's tough to say. Both are pretty F1 sounding

@@normalguysupercar awesome, will be in touch in the nearish future
listening to Dan is like watching an early 2000s movie.. similar verbiage. Not a knock, an observation
Interesting
Just glorious
Thank you
Dan, you better watch out for that nutty cop when you drive that baby. Just screams!
Haha yup
Oh wow, that thing is like the Hulk, its always angry!!
Lol

Exactly

Full mast
@@normalguysupercar I have old eyes.
How detrimental to just drive without ecu change?
You don't get the full potential and you get a cel for the missing cats
oooooohhhhh its sweeeet!
Yes sir
Probably the only car I would sell my F430 for.
Yeah
btw: spray bottle with soapy water; works for exhaust leaks
Yeah
4:46 masterpiece 8:19 glorious sound 8:43 nice a$$ on that scuderia
Haha yes
Music sweet music
Oh yes
good vid. Changed the character for sure, more racey less signature ferrari tho.
Yeah
Kinda hard to judge the new exhaust sound from a video as I’m sure it’s impressive in person but stock sounds much more refined by comparison.
It's hard to pick it up accurately on video
And there was much rejoicing!
Yes indeed
Just pack some RTV around them headers. 😂
Lol yup
I may be an outlier, but I like the factory sound better.
It's not bad but the F1 high pitch is glorious
I don't know I think your old 458 sounded better unless its just that exhaust leak making it "not" sound as good? lol
The 458 might just sound better because it sounds better. But this actually sounds pretty damn close
@@normalguysupercar yeah, will have to see once you sort it out and compare to Josh's car!
7:30, sponsored by John Deere lol
Huh?
@@normalguysupercar with the exhaust leak it kinda putted like a tractor
Dan your hair is thinning, consider getting a prescription to the enlarged prostate medicine proscar. It also stops hair loss. Cheap and effective
Uh... Interesting
You need a smoke machine. Best way to find any leak.
Yeah I have one but need to find it
That's close to being a dirt road. Yikes!
It's fine
