As of 58-year-old woman, I can tell you life has seasons. And we need to embrace them and enjoy them and strike out into the world with everything in our heart. Congratulations to you! As a fellow New Yorker, you should definitely show off our city during Christmas! Give everybody the NYC experience

You don't have to worry about quitting your 9 to 6 job and how it could affect the views, since that part of your life was not in your daily videos. People don't come to your channel to see you struggle, but to hear the funny things you say, the little things that make this channel different from the rest and to try to help you get through those times. If you're feeling bad, we''ll be here anyways.

because that meant that everything else was done during "normal" time off (normal for people like you and me) and she did so much (even tho sometimes it was too much) and seeing some normal working person be able to work a job and do a marathon and all it was so inspiring to me and other people, now she'll have the time to do all this and this is amazing for her but it is gonna be a little less relatable for the people watching her that's all

Dear Chelsea, as one of your older viewers, I can say with 100% faith and certainty, GOOD FOR YOU!!! That corporate hamster wheel is exhausting and soul crushing, especially for creative people. Have courage and trust in yourself that this is the right thing to do. You will come to appreciate NYC even more now that you actually have the energy to enjoy it. There are so many ways to make money here that don't involve selling your soul. Sending love to you from Upper Manhattan. ♥

I think that there’s a big difference between quitting your job, changing your daily life and taking the next step and not being relatable anymore. I follow several TH-camrs getting bigger and bigger and just feeling way more distanced from “us normal folks” and you’ve always felt so down to earth and approachable. I think that won’t change anytime soon :)

I will be honest, watching your commute and seeing how late you would get home - and then take time to film - I had wondered how you did it and how it wasn’t taking a slight toll. I’ve worked in corporate America and government for over 30 years, hoping to retire in a couple of years. It’s provided me stable employment, health care, and a house, but it’s also a slog and can be a burnout. You have this opportunity to do what you want, I’m so glad you’re taking it. You will not regret it. 👍❤️

I am a grandma but my teenage fantasy was to live an exciting life in NYC when a grew up. That didn’t happen but I enjoy watching YT channels of 20-something women living in NYC (and there a lot of them. LOL). Then I came across your channel randomly and liked that you were a 30-something in the city and figured you would have a different perspective. More relatable yet fun. I was so happy that you fulfilled your goal of running the marathon too and look forward to future videos (especially seeing you have fun decorating your apartment). Wishing you all the best in this new chapter of your life!

You know, I just want to briefly say, after reading several comments- I'm really noticing this common theme here for a lot of us! Some of us "more mature" ladies who are watching (and living vicariously perhaps) through these videos... and others like them. There's like, a whole "club" or faction really! 🥹 We wanted to do this. We wonder, would we have made it? How might we have done?

I would say it isn't too late to live (or visit) NYC. There are many stories here, and people from all ages. The video touched upon this briefly, on the mythologies and aura surrounding NYC from tv shows, movies and general pop culture, and no actual NYC experience will be close to that kind of fantasy unless you happen to be super-rich and successful. But even for the average person, the hoi polloi that I see in the NYC subways, there is still much that this city has. This is small, I know, but within a 20 minute walking distance, there are at least 3 to 4 chinese take-out restaurants. In some cities, I would have to drive 15 to 20 minutes just to get to 1 chinese takeout restaurant.

Anything is possible when you put yourself out there to take advantage. I remember thinking on the plane’If this doesn’t work out, I can just go back”. Knowing I was in control actually helped me succeed. I wish you all the best and I will be watching!

I think it's fantastic that you quit your corporate job. I quit mine two years ago. I worked for an international airline for more than 21 years. After that I kind of "tried on" different jobs that didn't quite fit. Right now I work part time for the German Lions foundation. New York City has several Lions clubs. Maybe that would be something for you. Other than that I personally would love to see you try out restaurants in the city, get your make-up done, try out recipes, film while walking around the city, walking around cemetaries, walking around areas that are not touristy, maybe slide in an ASMR video... I know there are plenty of theses kinds of videos, but they're not made by YOU! But basically, everything you want to do or want to experience will work. WE'LL WATCH 😍😍😍😍. Thank you for everything ☺️.

I quit my job at the end of 2020 and I can understand the weirdness of just not going back to work. It took me weeks to feel like it was real and I actually wasn't going back.
I have to say I've never thought "oh, another one becoming a full-time youtuber". Getting the opportunity to do something so few people achieve is amazing! As long as that is what you want to do. Life is short, we shouldn't have to grind it away at work.
My partner was in the same situation a few years back and going full time on TH-cam was definitely the right decision! So much so, that I started working with him on the channel nearly 3 years ago.

Congratulations! I've been self employed (in NYC) for over 20 years and while it comes with some real stress, I am willing to bear it because I am betting on myself. People think a regular job is safer and more secure, but in reality that job can be taken away at any moment so relying on myself feels more secure to me.
If you're looking for content suggestions -- make a running list of all the things you'd like to do and see in NYC (I start a new list every January) and go do them (and record the experiences). Being able to fully experience NYC is one of the best things about being self employed - so many people spend all day in an office and then weekends are for chores and resting and they miss out on so much!
PS - I swear that when I subscribed you had a couple thousand subscribers, at most. I'm so happy to see how your channel has grown. It is well deserved!

Congratulations! I am so happy for you! I'm not gonna lie, my heart dropped a little when I heard your announcement, because I almost always don't enjoy vlogs as much after a youtuber quits their dayjob because I can't relate to the people anymore. But honestly: If I was able to quit my job and do what I really love and enjoy life more, I would do it in a heartbeat. Who cares about what anyone else thinks! And I think you might just manage to stay yourself and still make great content for us stuck in the corporate grind ;)

I've definitely stopped watching some youtubers before after they became more popular and rich, and unrelatable. but i dont think it's so much not having 9-5 job that made them unrelatable, it's more the fact that they've become so out of touch with how the average joe functions. im sure other people will enjoy that luxurious life type of content, but that wasn't the reason why i started watching them in the first place.

I'm retired not by choice at 54 and at first it was a huge mental hurdle adjusting to not working and having so much time on my hands but after four years I can say there's life outside of work and although we all need to survive and provide, there's more to us than just the grind! I'll watch you no matter what you get up to!

It might feel frustrating for a while, but thats the best you can do for yourself. ❤

I am so proud of you!! Happy you took this decision - TBH I also struggle with enjoying videos of people who leave their corporate/regular life to be content creators/full-time TH-camrs because they end up being unrelatable/unrealistic and most of the time their content suffers a lot, so I personally don't like that type of content and feel like shut not another great gal going for the full time yt career! But after a year of watching your channel, I have the most high hopes for you!! You will rock this new chapter :)

We all follow our own paths in life. I personally don’t think there are enough influencers in the world as each person can influence others differently, but there is certainly enough of a certain type of them😉 all that to say to just continue navigating life the best way for you and along the way you will build and sustain the appropriate community. I’m happy for this new chapter of your life and wish you the best ❤

Very interesting. I did not expected that, however I noticed that many videos were "just" about you going to job and then weekend when you had to edit videos and as you were tired because of it and your job. So I belive that it is going to be more "present in time" videos. I am also excited about more videos. However I dont watch shorts, I don't have TikTok and I don't subscribe any youtubers/podcasters on platforms as Patreon. But I hope there will be still much of content here.
Last moths/years, I have been in life struggle as you, living in big city, fighting with chasing the dreams and must of living day-to day reality to survive, so I am very happy that you found you own way. You are my motivation, Thank you for that. Good luck

I started watching your videos at the beginning of this year. I had just graduated from university and was working in an ice cream shop full time. I had hopes of writing and releasing an album and I was trying to go running 3 times a week. I was feeling overwhelmed by the onset of adult life and as a result I barely worked on any music and was lucky if I managed to get out for 2 runs. Now I have an engineering job 8:30 - 5 but I'm able to work on music pretty much every day, I've released 3 songs, and I go for 3 runs per week (if my knees let me). I give myself credit, but your channel showed me that it was possible to do it all and more importantly that it was ok not to be on top of everything all the time. It might be hard work but the hope is that it pays off eventually which it looks like it's starting to for you. I'm excited to see where your channel goes and I'm sure you'll work it out even if it takes some time to find your footing. Cheers to "late" bloomers!

I am probably in the minority here, but I got a little disappointed hearing the news. Was hesitant whether to write it or not... Don't get me wrong, I do think you should do whatever is best for YOU and being able to leave your 9-5 is great! Good for you, well done!
I am just feeling a little like you described your own feeling about "another one became an influencer". I am sure you will stay as realistic as you've always been and I will definitely continue watching your videos ❤ Just it will be less relatable, personally to me, or the majority of people. But that's okay 😊 Good luck!
And I am super excited for VLOGMAS ❤
I hope I wasnt too harsh, just thought of expressing my feelings :)

    • @annt2070
      @annt2070 ปีที่แล้ว +7

I feel the exact same way, just didn't want to write it, because I truly am happy for you! It just feels like loosing a friend (so dramatic :D).. I was so happy to find a youtuber that was so funny, down to earth, realistic and relatable. It is rare to see someone do youtube whilst working a 9-5 job. I literally couldn't wait for the next video and hoped it wouldn't be - i'm becoming full time youtuber. :D Because I looove watching day in the life vlogs of working people that share similar struggles and find joy in the little things. And I wish you all the best, don't get me wrong. I guess it is just natural that when youtubers gain popularity they go into youtube full time to earn more at the same time slowly becoming more and more unrelatable with the average 9-5 working viewer.

Surprised to see your video today and more surprised to know you took a huge risk...sometimes that's the healtiest thing for us to do for ourselves. I worked for many years...worked my butt off...worked my 8 plus hours a day, then was on-call...did far more than I needed to do for my job. When I finally was able to retire, I realized how exhausted I was and how much I had depleted myself...mind, body and soul!! It took several weeks of just resting and taking care of myself for me to know how I really should have been feeling in reality...not how I felt on that lifelong treadmill called being a government employee!! You were so brave to make that decision for yourself...now we will get to see the real Chelsea bloom and grow!! Wishing you the best...congratulations!! Get ready to do YOU well!!

I have mixed feelings when people I follow keep quitting their day jobs to do YT/content creation full time. On the one hand I get it, we only have one life and I believe you should go after your dreams. On the other hand, it becomes less relatable to me. I don't work in corporate, but my work requires me to be in a space M-F from 8-5pm and I will rarely if ever be able to just run random errands or grab coffee in the middle of the day. I barely have time to eat lunch some days so seeing someone else try to juggle a full time job while trying to train for the marathon was more relatable and inspiring to me that a full time youtuber/content creator trying to do the same. I won't stop watching you, but I find my empathy for content creators is much lower.

You gotta take the risk. Life truly is precious. I made the risk to leave the military 5 years ago. I left 11 years but I wouldn’t be the mom I am today. I needed to let go. I'm not one to comment on youtube, but I had to comment on this one. Chelsea, I barely watch youtube these days. I just check youtube every week to watch your videos. You make the most relate-able videos on youtube and I don't see that ever changing. I've been relating to your life so much lately and this video is no different. I gave my notice a couple of weeks ago and am leaving my super secure job as a school counselor to start my own business. I was so burnt out, but I was dragging my feet. Finally, I took the plunge and so many people at work have expressed that they wish they could bring themselves to do the same. Pursuing your dreams IS real life. By making that relate-able, you are going to change lives. Seriously, I'm so excited for you and you will continue to make a difference in this new phase of your life. Lots of love from upstate!

I started watching you just bc you’re a 30 something woman living on your own in NYC, I never cared what job you had, I just wanted to see someone living a life I was scared of to show me it’s possible, that if I really wanted to I could also take a leap like moving to NYC on my own. I stayed bc you’re sweet and silly and relatable. You make me want to do more videos about my life. You’re inspiring just being you and you make me feel better about the fact I’m about to move on my own to the other most expensive city in America after separating from my husband 🫠 I’m glad you left your stressful job and that TH-cam allows you the opportunity to support yourself on this journey. Hi! So I’m new new. Just subscribed today 🎉 the first video I have watched was your first NYC marathon! *insert happy dance* congrats btw! The reason why I’m commenting is because I really resonant with your message about the corporate 9-5 life in NYC. Since the pandemic I, like many others, experienced burnout in healthcare and how people experience their medical visits and I decided to quit! 😅 I had been working in the healthcare setting for over 12 years and I didn’t want to do it anymore. I was unable to be creative and really connect with people. I found myself being treated as a “sales person” in the medical field and …. Wow. That was just it for me. I quit in July 2023 and after taking a few months to try to enjoy my “life” I also realized that I’m not very comfortable with my silence. It’s been an adjustment and I’ve been trying to get myself to start a podcast … can’t bring myself to do it. Maybe it’s what you said about “we don’t need more influencers” or maybe it’s just fear that no one will listen? Honestly, I also think that it’s my laziness! All in all, I’m very excited to see your content and knowing that you’re jumping in to your new career makes me very happy! Also inspiring 🤩 Good luck with the new videos!! Can’t wait to catch up on all your previous ones before the marathon ❤
