Those new plain black and white shelves would look better behind the counter, set the white ones on the bottom and the black ones on top right the opposite side of the TV, they'll balance the back wall, use the top for display of items like ur jellies, candles, herbs or tintures, etc, you can hand out and the bottom for overflow. I love the country theme you got started, avoid modern plain shelves they lack character! 🤔You can find good pieces at flea markets, yard sales or ur very talented, can keep building ur own shelves, furniture. Looking good, keep the improvements coming! Love ur farm, ur ideas and videos, I'm subscribed! I also liked ur making bread today, perfect, do more simple country recipes for people like me that love country food but can barely cook! LoL 😞 Good luck 😊👍💕

Maybe you could get a piece of Plexiglass the same size of your counter. That way it would be easy to wipe off but still allow the beauty of it to show. I absolutely love it....the accent wall, lights, the counter...all of it. Ok, let me go finish watching 😊

Shelves need to be attached to the walls, if it falls on someone, they get hurt and then your insurance claims are high. Also your two piece hutch, should be fastened together on the back and anchored to the wall. Check with your homeowners policy for a storefront safety requirement

Homeowner insurance won't cover a business on your property. You need a business liability insurance policy. As there is alot more chance of claims. As you are opening up your property to alot more people than a regular home would have come onto your property. Much more chance of liability claims. Get a good policy that will cover a couple of million in liability. I had a bakery for 9 years in a storefront in my town. And you just never know if someone will trip and fall, just want to sue, etc. I never had to use my policy. But you need to protect yourself. Also you need a LLC to protect your personal stuff from your business liability.

Root and Refuge, miah does these cool open shelves using small pipe from the plumbers department. Gets them cut and threaded at the store. Uses big wood planks with them. Very cool.

May I make a suggestion regarding the store?? The lights are hanging too low & practically in your face. They need to have better form. Like maybe hanging them (by using Scotch Brand Clear Tape) in a straight line to the bottom of the rafters where they are, & put some along the lines of the ceiling & top of wall around the entire room. Clean lines of the clear lights would look so much better than them hanging down in a shopper's face. The store is going to be a hit. Congratulations. 😊

Just use a large paintbrush to wipe that counter down. Hang wooden crates. They make great shelves and will keep the country style. I love love that cabinet! I also put a round table in the middle of my store, draped a table cloth on it and then stacked some crates on it on their ends and sides (sort of in a circle so it can be approached from all sides) for display. It looked great. The table does not have to be round either. One thing to do though, when you stack the crates on top of each other on the table, attach them together so they can't be knocked over.

Have friends who used to have a video rental store and they mounted gutters to the walls of the store to hold the videos. You could use those for slim, lightweight items (tinctures, salves, soap). A piece of galvanized tin on the wall for magnets for sale (I saw that in Gatlinburg).

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE how the store is coming together!
Your counter is just perfect, unique and vintage!!!
For baseboards, could you rip the same weathered fence wood? I just absolutely love the weathered fence wood; that would make awesome shelves too!
I can picture lots of doilies and crochet lacey curtains at the windows; the scent of seasonal potpourri simmering in a warmer…OH MY!!!
I don’t know how spendy it would be, but beveled glass on top of your counter would be a great way to still see the beauty of the wood, but also would protect from splinters and spills.
    Squeal!! So excited for y’all!

Just a thought to break up that long wall,,,move the hutches to that wall and create storues...you can put wire shelving between and on each end (mixing old and new
If you have many people lined up at the till the placement of the hutches can impeed flow, suggest more smaller wire shelves on each side of the door...maybe make shelving or additional display out of wooden crates or use more of the barn wood to make the crates and stack them.

Hi Jenn & Z, your journey is an inspiration, especially your “just do it” attitude! Good for you for not get derailed by the small details. Wanted to share an idea, when selling your home grown canned items. Offer a jar exchange discount. Customers can get a discount when exchanging an equivalent clean jar for the purchased item (they may have to be new, depending on the rules) however I think a lot of customers would be happy to pay it forward. That way as your sales increase your not having to worry about finding replacement jars. Looking forward to your success..

Great idea for the station! A glass top would be easy to clean! Idea for the shelves: attach a post to the floor and ceiling beam. Attach one side to the wall and the other side is attached to the floor and ceiling. Place them at the end of the room so that Jen is able to look at the end of the shelf and the customers can be on each side. Make the shelves wide enough for two sides of goods. Don't line all of the walls with shelves. Place a narrow table or two in the center with lower shelves to place large items. Hooks on the walls for hanging things. Hooks or hanging attachments dangling from the ceiling for hanging things.

Tip, if you ever do need trim. If you have any manufacturing woodworking plants nearby get to know them! Often they make everything, counters, doors, shelves, tables, trim... if something does not match thier specs....they often grind it...yes.. turned to dust... but maybe you can rescue some of it. Might be worth the researching.

The store is looking good = floor, counter, dresser, the white & black unit is completely out of place for the style you have, do you want modern or country feel? Personally I think the dresser still looks very unfinished & the inside needs some attention ( sand it & add a white paint which will show off the products) . Remove the white & black unit it doesn’t fit in with your store, then find some more old dresser’s & do the same ( clean, sand, paint inside white or cream) The most important thing is how your customers see the items you are selling. Presentation is The most important thing you can do & it’s cheap just a bit of Labour & paint.
Round off those edges on the counter ( it looks very rough) , don’t put a flip over top ( it will interfere with your window) try and make a nice gate instead on the inner part of the counter, that will enable staff (kids 👍) to stand and pack items (think long term). Try too find an old paper roll cutter? They are not easy to get but if you can get one then you can use Brown paper for wrapping. People love that old way of wrapping their gifts, simple and easy to recycle. And a string dispenser if you can get one or make one.

When you decide to do trim, rip the fence boards, and use them. I think that would look great. It’s looking great.

    I have 2 suggestions
    1. Inside back of black shelves...Consider painting a lighter color on the inside, because unless you only put white or light colored products in the black shelves, the products won't stand out and get people's attention.
    2. The fence boards are gorgeous, and the floor boards too. If you have leftover of either or both, could they be ripped in half to make baseboards?

Use some of the fence boards as a boarder around the flooring ( base boards) it would match the rest and still have a trimmed look, just an idea, looking good, nice to have a handy man that can do such a great job, it’s beautifully done, maybe make a coat rack to display things on ? Not sure what all you are selling , i like peg boards for displaying items also, i pray that you will be blessed by and with Gods love and favor as you walk this journey with Him , keep thanking Him for His blessings, God bless

You might want to think about a shelf under to store bags and such right at hand. Poly on top won't alter the look but it will help with clean up. Looks nice.

The store is looking amazing! I wished I lived closer. If you want to trim out the windows and doors (you could do baseboards as well if you have enough) use more of those fence boards. They'd make lovely rustic trim that fits in perfectly!

For tv viewing you would not want the tv where the person at the desk has it behind them. Plus you can balance the look with something on the wall next to the tv. The place looks great!

I feel your excitement. we converted our shed to a tiny outdoor get-a-way a few years ago. we used corrugated tin on the ceiling and completely finished the inside. I like how you left the ceiling open it looks big inside. i wish i lived closer. I’d definitely come to your store. beautiful!!!

You could build some shelves out of the fence panels. Rip down the planks for a frame. Then add on top to keep with the look. Looks great

Hutches from family member or your own basement or garage. I had an antique store and the furniture was for sale and so was the items displayed on it. I found most of ny old furniture at Sammys auction or Interstate auction in Corbin.

I would secure cabinets to the wall for yours and customers safety. Also Jen needs an anti-fatigue mat on floor behind counter. Maybe some shelves under counter to store pens, receipt paper ect.

You guys are doing an amazing job!! my suggestion for the back wall would be to use some of the free wood you got...whether you put the wood planks on brackets (pipe might look awesome) or lay the wood across the wire shelving units Jen was talking about. Also use some of that wood and make a couple wood boxes/crates and stack then in the corner or make a few narrow sided shadow boxes out of the wood and screw on the wall to hold inventory. I'm confident what ever it is you decide, it will look amazing!!!!

I would suggest that if you are leaving the cabinet cupboards open that you move it behind the doir. You don't want someone to walk in & maybe hit their head on the open cupboard door.
I don't know what your other cabinet will look like, but as I said just a suggestion.
I do like the color scheme that you have going there & the mini lights are cute.

Do the wire shelves and use the fence boards to cover them and trim out. So it looks like just metal uprights with wood shelves. Would be cool and match the theme. Also check marketplace or closing restaurants or restaurant supply resale stores.

If you got more fence boards rip them down in half and make your trim out of it or you can find some pallets and use them boards, so happy for you Jen looking good,

I remember an old country store that was here when I was a kid.
They had a big counter similar to the one you built. They always had those old metal signs (for sale of course) hung on the front of it, along with cool license plates.
    Extra display area 😊
If you decide to attach your tall furniture to the walls, you can get the brackets to do so from any “kid/parent survival catalog” lol
We also used wall anchors and heavy gauge wire 😊

Look for store closings. We found displays, shelving, a safe. All kinds of things at store closings. I wrote this as I was watching...... The old cabinet idea is great. You could really fill your store with old china cabinets and armoires jjust take the doors off.

If you want the seams between floor and walls covered just use quarter round instead of full on baseboards.
