The Detrans Perspective - A Conversation With A Survivor (James Esses & Ritchie Herron)

  • “One of the reasons I transitioned is because I didn’t want to be a gay man,” Richie Herron tells James Esses. We were honoured to have Richie at our Conference. His unflinching honesty provides much needed insights into how internalised homophobia and a failing healthcare system can impact on the life of a gay man.

    Richie is great, so is James. I had surgery seven years ago, numerous revisions to fix something I told was “one of their best” I’m not trans anymore but living with chronic UTIs and damaged kidneys. It even hurts to walk sometimes. Dealing with a mistake I made as a 22 year old for the rest of my life sometimes seems unbearable.

      So sorry to hear. I know that in my industry (therapy) we have been silenced on doing anything (here in the U.S.) besides affirming and supporting anyone who says they might be trans; no questions must be asked. This is sheer madness and the medical and therapy industries need to wake up and realize we're doing harm by our participation in this social contagion.

      Thank you for sharing, it’s so important that we raise our voices about our experiences especially in the hopes to help others learn from our lives. I dealt with Body dysmorphia, bipolar and ptsd by doing serious body modifications at a young age. Even though it wasn’t about my gender, I was compelled to do these permanent changes to my body. 10 years on, I’m a completely different person but I have these modifications all over me that can’t be hidden and it affects my day-to-day life. The fall out isn’t painful for me physically but it compromised my immune system. Even though we’ve been through different things, I just want to encourage you on your journey. There’s something special about every person, we each have an inner beauty that can radiate out to bring joy and healing to others and ourselves. We each have unique talents and ways we can bless others. There is so much beauty around us, sometimes it’s those who’ve experienced the most pain and heartache that can share compassion with others, feel deeply and appreciate the wonder of beauty in nature. We have so much strength not only to have survived but to share our stories. I hope you have a great day, sending love to you ❤

    As a young teen I also wanted to be a woman and wished that I could take a pill or get a surgery to become. One of the main reasons was because I didn't want to be gay. Insane how for a mental disorder the first treatment doctors are now pursuing is permanent surgeries, and not mental treatment. I had trauma, and mental issues, but they would've pushed me to transition today.

      Does it cross the minds of gay folks that homosexuality is not in fact innate? I’m not saying that to be combative but that those who have same sex attraction may not remain that way? I wonder if locking people into homosexuality by claiming it cannot change is part of the problem. So many people don’t want to be gay. Surely there is a reason for this beyond some embarrassment or social shame?

    • @jimmorrison4ever529
      @jimmorrison4ever529 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I doubt it. I’m also only hearing one side of Ritchie’s story and everyone else’s story who detransitioned. Many many people who took hormones and had surgery had a happy life. Many people also just took hormones and didn’t want surgery. I’m positive if Ritchie had a successful surgery he would not be speaking about this. The main theme from all these detransitioners is, “It doesn’t work. It was botched.”

    • @LoudMinded
      @LoudMinded ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jimmorrison4ever529 It doesn't work because it cannot possibly work. You can't change sex. The fairytale that changing your name, clothes and hormones will fix all your problems is a false promise.

    • @jenniferjennings324
      @jenniferjennings324 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      The main take away is that Ritchie wasn’t treated for his OCD and other psychological conditions. He also didn’t want to be gay so he was lead down the transition path by so-called experts. He’s not saying others can’t be happy transitioning, but he is saying there is an affirmation approach to everyone instead of tackling the underlying issues. The tragedy is he was butchered, but even more tragic is that he isn’t allowed to tell his story by some people because they blame him for making a mistake and that he wasn’t really “trans”. His point is that he was told by the experts that he is the perfect candidate to transition. In other words, there are many ways to be a man and many ways to be a woman without trying to change your sex and becoming a “stereotype”. My heart breaks for Ritchie because the docs lead him down the wrong path. If it happened to him, you know it’s happening to many others.

      I watched a video on an American psychotherapist discussing this topic and he said something that struck me because I’d never thought of it like this before. He said vulnerable people have had this surgery and it creates a wound that will literally never heal. It’s prevented from healing and that wound is capitalised on by predators. That wound reflects internal wounds that never heal, but only compound. Here is a link to the conversation: th-cam.com/video/-t5u3QZlFy8/w-d-xo.html&themeRefresh=1
      Dr John Ulher has worked as a clinician with many sexual predators and psychopath. It would be fascinating to hear a discussion between Ritchie and Dr John because there’s a lot of overlap especially regarding grooming, manipulation and the role of sexual predators preying on vulnerable people in this matter.

    • @silaslizzie43
      @silaslizzie43 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      There are many therapists who do not agree with nor go along with 'gender affirming care' despite laws in various states (in the US) that require we do so. In general, you can tell which therapists are buying into 'gender affirming care' by checking to see if they list their pronouns on their website - this tends to be a sign of which direction they are leaning (or how much fear they have to speak up). There are still clinicians out there who ask the hard questions instead of simply buying into social crazes. Richie is right: grad schools for therapists in the US do not provide anywhere near the level of training that should be required on this issue. Arguably, it is outside of the scope of mental health providers to speak to ANY medical issues because we are not medical providers. Why would we be involved in any way on giving the green light for such radical and life altering surgeries and never ending medical problems?

    These mental health "professionals" were educated for years, gained their accreditation, were legitimised as experts, were trusted to treat some of the most vulnerable people in society, those with mental health issues that impair their own judgement * - These professionals in positions of absolute power over the patient are supposed to be trusted to treat the actual mental health issues the patient is presenting with. Instead, it was politicsed, and a new "identity" category was created, and instead of doing their job and doing their duty by the patient, the experts slap this new identity label on this person who may have any other number of underlying issues that are causing their dysphoria. They medicalise the patient, give hormones and surgery, like that is an appropriate treatment, while ignoring the other issues, like Richie's OCD was ignored. This is an astounding dereliction of duty, an absolute betrayal of the patient by the professional/expert.
    * Even people without mental health issues would believe a mental health professional who diagnosed them and prescribed a particular treatment!! How are people who are highly vulnerable supposed to advocate for themselves in the face of that power imbalance?

    He's right about not forgetting adults who are harmed. If a doctor misdiagnoses you and lops off your leg for no reason, are you not allowed to sue them if you're over 18? Is there no such thing as medical malpractice if the patient is over 18? There's a special tragedy to it if it's a kid, but damn, if I go to the doctor and I get something amputated for what turns out to be a made-up illness that the doctor is ideologically subscribed to, that's evil and unjust no matter the patient's age.

    Richie has grown so much as a young man. I saw his early videos and he seemed so timid, now he’s so much stronger. Im so sorry this happened, but so glad to see him so much stronger.

    It is very true that when doctors start telling you about health issues that one tends to believe them and succumb to the pressure.

    Correct. Becoming an adult is on an age spectrum under ideal conditions---meaning no comorbid mental health issues--and that is IMO only around 25/26 as a median number. Horrific that this is being done to humans, whether or not they understand the consequences is not only up to adult understanding if they are being purposefully LIED to.

    He needed to go through terrible way to realize the simple truth, SEX/GENDER IS NOT CHANGABLE.
    You born male, you remain male,
    You born female, you remain female.
    Thankful to GOD, that this soul, finally do realized the TRUTH and now having boldness to share TRUTH WITH OTHERS.
    Good for him. May he keep doing so, sharing truth to those who still are without.

    What a brilliant interview which moved me to tears. Congratulations to both both James and Ritchie and for LGB alliance for hosting it. I am so concerned by the silencing of the debate . I just heard about the social worker who was disciplined ed by her employers and Social Work England for having Gender Critical views on her social media. Shame on them both. The social worker is now suing both of the corrupt organisations. Let’s hope she wins

    Yes! I’m happy for LGB separating yourselves from TQ and all the rest after that.
    Don’t let them drag you down with them when this ship sinks like the lobotomy did. And it will be worse since they involved kids in this.
    And please separate yourselves from drag kids and drag Queens that are in the let’s promote this to children. That is all a disaster waiting to happen.

    If I could get my hands around the necks of the evil people who did this to you believe me it would not end well. I have a son and if anyone did to him what has been done to you my inner tiger mother would erupt. For a medical person to even think of doing this when they have signed the hypocritical oath is sick. I cannot hope you will get better but I do hope something can eventually be done to make your situation better. Xx

    This guy is amazing. It takes a lot of courage to do what he's doing. Just want to leave a bit of love to him here and say thank you for the ones you are helping. The problem is the 'gender' therapist. One needs a family system/constellation therapist to see where this is coming from. This is never an isolated case, so as Ritchie says, "It needs a holistic approach."

    I'm proud of Ritchie & others like him. Words can't really describe the kind of bravery it takes to lay it bare like this. Both sides coming at you, the anti crew with their 'I told you so sentiments' & the trans cult trying to bully you out of existence. I know there must be many suffering in silence.
    This has to stop or be seriously restricted or curtailed. Ritchie is right it is criminal & we must push for accountability.

    The root of the issue is greed. Those who benefit at the source in abusing a vulnerability that is rooted in lack of self love. What teenager likes the changes occurring in their body? I don't know of any. Those exploiting this are people who turn this perfectly natural experience of life called puberty into a flaw to fix or even claim to help kids avoid it (which is false because they're simply swapping for the opposite sex puberty issues instead). For instance, many FTM I've talked to will feel the need to go to a warehouse where the entry fee is 10$. They're given a stick upon entering so they can release anger by beating on old equipment that is left there for this purpose. They're injecting very high doses of testosterone (much higher than what they natural body would ever produce) and then left on their own to deal with the agressive behavior that comes with it. No one ever mentioned the psychological changes that occur. It's propaganda for profit. There is no real support to identify where the disphoria is coming from, which at the root may stem from lack of self-love. That's not my interpretation, it's what detransitioners have told me. Just the word detransition is misleading as well. They can rarely return to their original state and most have acquired added complications. Why do we have to understand the potential consequences of most intrusive surgeries and sign a consent form that states that we understand what dangers are possible for most medical interventions while when it comes to changing gender, children can make these decisions and hide it from their parents? It's greed $$$. That's what's pushing this agenda and ideology. Taking advantage of a vulnerability is psychopathic. I've heard health professionals use different approaches to sound convincing. One is about preventing suicide. Most of us have gone through our puberty and are still here today. Others will say "would you rather have a straight transgender child or a gay child? Some parents would rather transition their child rather than have a gay child. Horrible but it does happen. There is worse, sit down for this one. Some health care practitioners have a twisted fantasy of grandiosity and power which they affirm by removing genitalia and the possibility of procreation in their victims. Yes, someone has admitted to this. My point is that the agenda (whatever the root) is about abuse. Period. Leave the kids alone, let them live the normal stages of puberty as their species intended. Stop bringing politics into a crucial time of their life experience. This is the generation who will care for you when you're older.... think about it. What connection of trust are you feeding into?
