    If I remember correctly, EA's poor excuse for the lack of scoreboard was because they thought that players seeing their "bad score" would be discouraging for them to play the game. This was EA's way of trying to make the BF game "for all audiences", which by no surprise, was not a good move.

      It's the only possible excuse, because they clearly had a kill feed and experience system (undoubtedly tied to objectives and or kills/assists) and all the score board would do is track and display the outputs of that. Could literally be done in less than a day, bar quality UX design.

    When Alana said Covid was the worst thing that happened to the game's industry, I was going to disagree, but I actually came around shortly after.
    That kind of sudden growth is actually terrible for big companies, because they're incapable of seeing it for what it is. They immediately set this anomaly as the new standard, and crumple when a temporary upshot turns out to be, well... Temporary.

      @@lolbuster01 Because no one in recent times have attempted a war story from the german perspective at the fall of Berlin and the Third reich. Also I think Muller may have survived given the gun fire heard before the black out was a Thompson and in the intro he is talking about his experience as a tank commander, but then again seems left to interpretation. Although theres a theory that the tank driver from BF3 in the campaign that ends up dying may be related to Müller along with the little toy dinosaur he has which appears in the last tiger as well.

    The scoreboard issue is actually so much worse because they hosted an event with streamers to compete and see who can get more kills in 2042 (kills in Battlefield are just 1 of many ways to contribute to the team but I don't expect Dice to know that.) With no scoreboard, they needed staff to keep track of everyone's progress individually. That event also had two players stuck inside the geometry and had to pretend they didn't.
    I'm glad he's using the recorder version of the Battlefield theme, it legitimately sounds less grating than the official 2042 theme. It sounds like they recorded it using squeaky chairs dragged across pavement as instruments.

    About QA testing: sadly, in most studios it has been reduced to the bare minimum.
    Nobody is hiring dedicated testers, they consider it a waste of money. They use the players themselves as testers, free of charge, so why should they pay people to test the game? Apparently, they don't care about the hit to their reputation or players leaving the game permanently.
    What little testing is done by the team, it's done not by testers, but by some of the developers themselves when there's some free time they aren't doing their main job, be it programming, 3D modeling or whatever.

    • @jbktpl1245
      @jbktpl1245 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I've even heard cases of companies ignoring tester feedback and releasing the game anyways because of their margins as well.

    • @Zack_Wester
      @Zack_Wester หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jbktpl1245 there used to be a time when QA was part of the actuall company.
      at first the QA of let say EA was employed by EA sat in EA offices in some cases the room next over from the devs.
      then not sure when QA was outsources to pure QA companies so EA would Hire for example (name fictional because I know no QA companies) London game QA Brent.
      a company whit 120ish QA tester and many whit programing experience or understanding of code and such, you know the kind of peaple hat see a bug ones.
      goes okey I think I see where in the code this happen... does 3 more tests send a PM to the Programmers going found bug Here and a lot of programmer struff.
      then the QA companies got shafted whit the contracts so instead of hiring decent programmers and devs (all kinds of levels).. well they all got fired/laid off because the contract sum was so bad that the only way to fill the slots was by min wage workers and programmer would not work that kind of jobs whit thoes kind of conditions at that level.
      and then the C suit threw shit at QA turning QA from a where programmers in learning was to where Failed gamer joined in thinking it would lead them to actual game development in reality a dead end there are no senior QA there is no Programer QA rolls/rank/pay.
      so any actual dev that do join leaves quickly.
      then to add to it communication between QA and programmers/devs are none existence.
      meaning if a QA did find something they had no way to communicate it.
      Like I read a story that a Programer would go to a bar at the end of the day and if by chance he spotted a QA member been in the same bar they would sneckily against company policy get the QA reports on how thing was going.
      Remember QA used to sit next door whit a direct line to the programmers.
      also QA used to join in as soon as there was something to test, nowdays QA gets hired 1 week before launch. it takes a skilled QA dev a week to start to generate reports of use.

    The reason why games with stupid high developer numbers suck is partly due to people not being allowed to do stuff. Like if someone wants to test a simple feature, like how a character model is supposed to react to damage. In a small studio they just test what they want that day, in a 9000+ studio they need to write a work order, send it to a resource manager, who then sends it to a tester, who writes a report, and sends it back through the chain 4 weeks later.

    I get the feeling that the "game as a live service" has crept into most companies mindsets (although luckily not all has joined in on this practic). One example, that comes to mind... that sadly still bothers me so far, has to be Payday 3. Battlefield 2042, was one of those games where I'm glad a friend of mine picked it up to test out for us both. (my computer at the time couldn't run it... and well, ptsd from service takes a hold every time some smuck throughs a grenade or explodes a vehicle...). I've been playing battlefield bad company 2 as my first battlefield game, then 3, 4, then the WW1/WW2 version... - skipped out on 5. - but 2042 oh my... I'm delighted now that I didn't delve into it.
