- Xena (Lucy Lawless) is finally reunited with Eve after a long 25 years away - only to learn she's under the spell of Ares, who vows to destroy Xena's daughter to protect his own safety.
From Season 5 Episode 20, "Livia": Xena and Gabrielle (Renee O'Connor) awaken from their 25 year sleep and reunite with Joxer. He introduces them to his son Virgil and the four of them venture into Rome to find Eve. Upon finding her, however, Xena is horrified to learn that Eve has become everything she didn't want her child to be - a fearless warrior for Rome embroiled in a relationship with Ares himself.

So sad that Kevin Smith died a few years later. He was so good at playing Ares and only 38. Just about to get his break in Hollywood too. Rip Kevin. Gone but not forgotten.
Yes it was horribly sad. He was in so many great productions here in New Zealand and seemed like a really nice guy. Falling to his death just before he would have starred in 'Tears of the Sun' with Bruce Willis (Back when Bruce Willis still respected) - it doesn't get more unfair than that.
I didn't know that. Such sad news. I really liked Kevin Smith as Ares.

@@-a-cb-l9000 Yes. He fell 3 stories at a film studio in China and died from severe head injuries in 2002. Heartbreaking. He was just about to make his debut in American films starting with Tears of the Sun with Bruce Willis. I was devastated. He was an amazing actor.💔

100% with you on this. There are so many scenes throughout the show where just a small expression from Lucy in the moment sells the scene. She was just perfect for this role, imo.

I always love how Xena never needs a man to feel safe or powerful. Because she knows she is powerful with or without a man and if she with a man it is because she wants be with him not because she needs him. She is strong independent and fight she doesn't need anyone.

When I think back on the happiest moments of my childhood, it always includes me and my family watching Xena on AXN. She was my hero growing up, still is. Eventhough Xena is fictional, it's more about what she represents- a strong, independent woman who fights for the greater good.
I still watch it often, even after 20 years.

Ares, obviously shocked to see Xena again after 25 years, doesn’t catch on to the fact that Xena headbutts him (the great God of War) yet doesn’t move a muscle after Livia initially threatens her with a sword; a big clue even though he’d eventually connect the dots later…
Ares went straight for the woman who he always wanted. I love Livia/Eve being so jealous.

This episode goes back to roughly when he first comes into the programme where she was dressed in a green gown and Aries could and would give her it all ruling by his side

Xena's daughter Livia (aka Eve) was portrayed by Adrienne Wilkinson and Ares the God of War was portrayed by Kevin Smith. Julius Caesar was portrayed by Karl Urban.
Augustus Caesar was played by Colin Moy. He also played the Centaur Phantes who married and had a son with the Amazon Ephiny.

It happened in Season 5 episode 2 Callisto was first was cast to hell for what happened end of Season 4 but she had been Forgiven and Redeemed in heaven as an Angel that was also given a gift by Eli a representation of the Messiah to bless Xena with a pregnancy she didnt know of til later on in the series season it happened after Gabrielle and Xenas resurrection by Eli later on in an episode of Seed of Faith Callisto Angelic spirits becomes reincarnated spirit to live and grow inside Xenas unborn babys body to become Xenas daughter Eve ..the rest you will just have to watch on Tubi app or Roku app its too much to explain lol

It was explained in the show, even Gabrielle tried to learn it in the first seasons but gave up because she was impatient and it wasn’t her fighting style. It’s basically treated as normal fighting, everyone if trained can do it. It’s not supernatural

I thought the Prophecy said that Xena would have the ability to kill the Gods as long as her child is still alive. So why didn’t Aries died when he walk into her sword. Am I missing something. People please remember that it’s been 20 years since I seen the final season of Xena
Yeah, she doesn't get the ability to kill gods directly until Eve gets baptized. Before that it's all them just being too paranoid to survive.

Why did the sword not kill Ares since Eve was alive?
Because she wasn't following the way of love. Xena gains the power to kill gods when Eve is initiated by baptism.
because Xena did not yet receive the power to kill gods, she receives that power 2 episodes later/ the season 5 finale Motherhood.
It’s because the identity of Eve is not there. That person is living as Livia and the “Eve” is in a slumber sort of speak. When she regains her true identity as Eve, it’s like an awakening and is when Xena gets her god killing powers back.
