From Xena Warrior Princess Season 6 Episode 14, “Path of Vengeance”: Eve is put on death-row by Varia and the rest of the amazons for raiding the village years ago. Xena and Gabrielle desperately try to get Eve off the hook, but Xena discovers that Varia has an underlying motive - Ares.

This is definitely one of the best fights in the whole series!!! Regardless if people think that Varia was on par with Xena, or not, it was just spectacular for Varia to demonstrate her skillset and hold her own against Xena, but we all know Varia is really no match for Xena, no matter how much training she received from Ares. Varia just let her anger get the best of her. If she was fighting with a clear head, she could have been a force to be reckoned with. Let’s not forget all those Amazons that Xena slayed before this. And as Xena said so herself, she’s got many skills.
Not to say she don't have potential but the second xena knocked those weapon out her hand she lost. Now any fight watched that starts with weapons, we all know once 1 loses the weapon he opponent drops own. Varia didn't she held onto them as if the fight depended on it. moment xena knocked them out her hands xena got the best of her and fight was done in seconds. She was a good fighter but I think she knew she was nothing compared to xena without a weapon. If xena would rain her she probably be on par. And yes hate blinds judgment.
Yes I loved watching this fight. The setting was everything. This is one of my favorite fights as well from the series
Let’s be real, Xena was going easy. She went up against the gods and an entire army.
The best fight in my opinion was The One Against One Army episode where Xena kills the Army when Gabrielle is dying of poison. Or the other episode where it’s Xena and Gabrielle fighting against Alti in India

Varia was hot!
Had a huge crush on her growing up.
Varia was skilled yes but no where near Xena's level. Watch Xena fighting Najara and then watch this the difference is obvious. Xena tossing Varia near the end like a ragdoll after easily blocking her hit showed that Xena had been holding back. The point of the entire fight was to save Eve by getting Varia to see she had crossed the line with her actions.

Na there was times where Varia had the upper hand, xena obviously is superior but Varia held her own against her.
It’s important to remember that Ares trained Varia. Varia seemed to have held back when fighting Gabrielle until the end of that fight, but she did not hold back at all with Xena here.

Varia was pretty badass.This was one of the best fights out of the whole series.But nobody beats Xena.

Poor Eve. Yes, she did terrible things as Livia of Rome. But she changed when she learned the truth about Xena.
Varia is angry, but not a Livia/Eve, she's angry at herself. Ares has been training Varia too.

I remember watching this fight on repeat as a kid.
Wow Varia held her own against Xena! Did not expect that. Skill set was on par with xena. She did handle Gabrielle as well, and Gabrielle was as close to xena as a warrior possible. So I guess it makes sense. Great fight!
Humble opinion...that is Ares's knowledge at work. He grants his fave human pupils the ability reach the anger inside themselves and power up their strength to god like level. Is how Xena can pull off physical feats that are outright impossible. Livia aka Eve when she was his lover, Callisto when she wore Xena's body, Varia...and of course Xena where all trained by him. Gabrielle refused his training and while she's a skilled/formidable fighter...no go when it comes to hyper moves. lol

Xena was toying with her trying to see how much Ares taught her...and I didnt like how weak they tried to play Gabrielle cause at this point she has been trained my Xena for years and has been in very intense combat situations...good fight though
@@jamarcussimmons3044 yea 100% I did not expect Gabrielle to get beaten like that. IMO in hand to hand combat I believe she was close as possible to Xena there is, so I was shocked to see her get beat like that.

As a young kid watching this episode, I agreed with Xena because she was telling the truth to varia. Varia could have killed Livia if her sister hadn't tried to save her.

Xena threw Xena - 10pts. A few minutes later Xena recovers, crabs Varia by the jaw (4:50) and tosses her!!?! - 20pts! Her expression!! Xena had enough. Lucy is amazing.

@@lindoralindt4131 Varia really handled Gabrielle and Gabrielle was as close to Xena as possible by this season. So i think Varia could have held her own even if Xena would go all out. She did disarm her a few times, took advantage and almost had her. Obviously Xena is Xena but Varia showed her something and I don’t think we can discredit her skill set.
@@lindoralindt4131 Possibly yes, but I’m sure even if she went “all out” I think Varia would put up a good fight. Look what she did to Gabrielle just before this!! And Gabrielle Was a great warrior by this season. She was trained by Ares as well so she got alot better. This isn’t questioning Xena it’s more of recognizing Varia’s ability. Also I’ve seen Xena get beaten to an inch of her life by Najara before, and would have if it wasn’t for Gabrielle saving her. So it is possible for others to put up a fight with Xena.
@@lindoralindt4131 Yes Varia is not on the same level of Najara. She was a fierce opponent of Xena. IMO I just think Variaa got better with the help of Training with Ares as well. Xena just saw her best friend get beaten to a bloody pulp. So she def was fighting to fight. Was she enraged ofcourse not but I do think she was going after Varia and I think Varia came along way from earlier. Do you think Gabrielle was also holding back on Varia?
@@lindoralindt4131 yea I get it and that’s when Varia took it to Gabrielle and completely overpowered her. Would she be able to do that to Xena? Of course not but I do think no matter the situation she would put up a fight against Xena like she did here. I think the fight against Gabrielle and than the fight against Xena right after proved that Varia was a fierce fighter who can compete with them. Just my opinion.

Somehow I never knew that Xena had a daughter. I remember the tragic loss of Xena’s son, but I never heard about her daughter.

I'll be honest- Varia had every right to want vengeance especially after Eve slaughtered her younger sister as Livia. I always found Xena incredibly hypocritical whenever it was about Eve and someone had a legitimate reason for vengeance or unforgiveness related to her especially when we we all saw what Xena nearly did to Gabrielle after the death of Solan. If the writers had actually made me even remotely care about Eve too that might have made a difference but they didn't. Personally I never ever forgave her for killing Joxer.
Nope. What you said contradicts. How is Xena a hypocrite? She almost killed Gabrielle but saw it was wrong and did not, the same thing she trying to get Varia to do, that’s not hypocritical. She did the same thing with Calypso, instead of killing her at the end she tried to save her. So no this scene isn’t hypocritical.

Oof, Xena is projecting *SO* hard when she talks to Varia. Also, I always hated Eve, Livia was so much better, like did her knowledge of battle leave her once she returned to her former name? Did she ever fight or defend herself as Eve, or did she always wait for mommy and aunty Gabrielle to save her?
Eve never forgot her teachings, her entire thing was becoming the deliverer of Elis message. She became the Messenger of Peace, therefore she refused to fight to up hold that message

When Xena and Hercules became Christianized, the writing really took a nosedive.
My favorite moment is right after, where the tables turn and Varia is standing over Xena, ready to kill her. However, she then breaks down and cries. Xena then breaks Eve's chains, and Eve immediately goes to affectionately comfort Varia.
