- You've probably heard about the Metaverse, or "Earth 2" as some call it. But is it really a thing? And if it is, is it worth all the hype? In this video, I'm sharing my thoughts on the Metaverse and whether or not it's worth all the buzz.
Personally, I don't think it's all that great. I think the hype is overblown and the reality doesn't match up. I also think the concept of a Metaverse built on the blockchain is a bit silly. But that's just my opinion. So what do you think? Is the Metaverse a thing, or is it just a joke? Let me know in the comments below!

He also said he is filling in as lead developer for a “PvP game loop concept” for E2. I’m guessing he is having issues hiring/keeping devs behind the scenes?

My favorite part about Earth 2 is the fact that it hasn't died yet. I will legitimately miss videos like this.
They said the designers overlooked it as if they had been lazy or sloppy, but then they later go on to go "Whoops we only decided later that we needed this thing"
So they decided after it was designed that they wanted to add something, and are shocked that the thing they didn't tell their designers at the time didn't materialize out of thin air?

I think basically what happened is when they made the doc They forgot to include requirements they wanted. They didn't notice this mistake until later. At least that's what I think he is saying. I can't decide whether or not I believe this because he's just this incompetent or whether or not I don't believe this because it's such a ridiculous story
I absolutely adore their use of "custom built" whenever they have to write more than 5 lines of code.

I've very loosely followed it over the last several months. It's gone from "Maybe these guys are nerds who can't communicate" to "clearly a scam" really fast.

Earth 1 is better value and has less problems.

I promised them a thing, they paid for it, I released it, and they expected to be able to use it? On what planet do they live on? Certainly not Earth 2.
New Challenge for Callum: How long would it take him to recreate all the current content of E2; tiles, market, gem and mentars, and a random resource map that does nothing.

There's probably a unity template that does everything E2 does at this point that he could just purchase.

My favorite part about the metaverse is when the metaverse said "it's metaversin' time!" and proceeded to metaverse on everything.

I think a good way to tell a scam game is if they have monetization beyond crowdfunding before there is any gameplay. Any game that is selling land, cosmetics, or power before the game is even out is so damn suspect. (looking at you Elyria)
Crowfall too even though gameplay alphas and betas have been going for years, still no sign of release promises, still tons of land packs to buy.

Even if scam wasn't original intention the goal of developer becomes milking money off the supporters rather than finishing the game.

Im not even invested in earth 2, outside of watching the shit show of a ship sink, but I am even curious about raiding. Specifically I am hoping for the most hilarious outcome and that's where "raiding" is actually just Earth 2 having RAID ads xD

If you want another shifty NFT project to look into look into moon boi studios. More to the point the way they are building their "game". The contract they are trying to push on junior developers is an unpaid 18 month period of work which doesn't guarantee a job, pay or anything else afterwards.
For people who most likely hate Communism, they sure do love the idea of an unpaid, micro-mis-managed and overloaded workforce under the charismatic leadership of an ultravisionary cabal and/or great leader.
With a studio name like that I don't know why anyone would take them seriously in the first place

I've never liked any web 3.0 stuff but when they were the first to respond to any application after months of trying to even get an interview or even a response you take them serious just to get started in any game job you can till you get the job you want. I think their whole play was to try and get acquired by another company at some point. The problem is that its stupid.
The pvp "raiding" is referenced to is going to be text-only gameplay. All this time they thought actual gameplay was coming and that's all they are getting. Shane talked about it a couple weeks ago in their Discord. Hilarious to watch them cope and try to make it sound fun when they clearly expected so much more.

Earth 2 still stuck in their 0.2 "patch" for the last 2 years, meanwhile Callum is already messing around with UE5 and showing actual progress towards a final product (at least Dream World had a "playable" beta for Callum to break lol)
They're truly kids on a park, exchanging their parent's valuables for stones and leaves.
Considering there's no game, just stacks and tables assigning ownership, 'raiding' is probably going to be an html-click-a-button gapcha thing type of deal that they can buy finished code/implementation for. Congrats to you Callum on the content you'll get from watching their discord trying to deal with the reality of it later on

Anyone remember playing eRepublik back around 2009? Shane and his team cant implement a resource system so places that actually have a certain mineral doesn't and they ask people to contact them to correct it which is just insanity since the data is freely online. eRep was made back when people were still running Windows XP or ME and had more in it for a browser game than this joke of a "Matrix" game.
Firstly, After reading Shane’s rules for the Callum challenge, is anyone surprised details were “left out” to devs? Secondly, holo buildings were free to implement weren’t they, they are a free add on for map box.
I love Shane´s excuse for the exorbitant amounts of money the developers get for the sales of Holo Buildings.
This implies that all the money they made with the sale of tiles was used up to find already existing functions in Mapbox and Unity and make it look like they worked really hard.

Correction,, royalties don't come standard for NFTs. That it's just something that's possible. The NFT producer has to build royalties into the smart contract. And then the royalty system they use has to be compatible with sellers, which also isn't a given - some sellers don't even do royalties.

It would be interesting to see what this 'raiding' would entail. Especially considering that everything has a monetary value tied to real-world value (in theory). Even though the value is very very very little at this point, it is still value. And I wonder if it could be legally consider theft if someone stole things from me which I could've transformed into real world money when I decided to check out.

logically you can't have gameplay where by gameplay any of the stuff bought changes hands, yet they promise along those lines eventually there to be gameplay like that.

The closest you can get is convert it into PLEX.
Money goes in, but you can't extract money (legally)
E2 is based on the idea that money goes and you can extract your 'earnings'.
And so far everything can be traded around. Therefore potentially turned into extractable money.

Like, my family owns an old gold mine. It’s not particularly valuable, BUT we do own all the rights to that mine, all mineral rights and such. Now, someone is apparently profiting from OUR land? All the rights I own on my land, and someone else is exploiting MY land for profit?
you don't own the google maps or osm data for your mine. you could own copyright for something that's on the land irl or such I suppose. point is, the earth2 land is neither land nor is it yours. it's like someone wrote a scary story about the mine that's on your land, you don't own the story just because you own some land of it nor does it really matter if the mine even exists in the real world which is where the whole "oh I bought the white house... IN THE METAVERSE" breaks down.. it's a virtual world, the entire virtual world could be inside a virtual snowglobe on the virtual moon that's also inside the virtual snowglobe, it doesn't matter that it couldn't be like that in the real world because it's just virtual - it's just a story in essence in that way.
the whole thing is a dumbf*** idea basically that's why it makes more money when sold as an idea like this and not as the actual finished product, because the VIRTUAL IDEA of e2 can be _anything_ - even logically impossible! if it was a finished software product and a service in the real world it would have to actually be logically possible, but as long as it's just an idea it can be anything a cult member wants it to be.

It's actually not clear, seems to be a model of a building you can place on the terrain, except the whole terrain thing doesn't exist yet.

They must be different people as they buy and sell to each other. The other names seem to be on repeat. The ammounts of e-ther found seems to be wildly varied from 3778 to just a few same with jewels
