    People say they want a metaverse it forget it's already been done in very much the same vein as the current ones, strong argument for far better even.
    SecondLife did it almost 2 decades ago.
    Many different worlds/spaces, digital currency, able to cash in or cash out,have to make your own stuff or buy it, plenty of variations from the more normal side to the darker side and everything in between, games possible, socialising possible, buying and selling land.
    Metaverse has been done. The issue is if you make it all about money then you have earth 2. Make it too open well uh the issues in SecondLife. Try and make a balance and it's not the promised metaverse everyone is hyped so everyone just splits up into smaller games.

      @@mistercruise Yes, I remember the PS3 one. It was absolutely pointless! In the end it just turned out to be a giant waiting lobby, while you wait for an actual game to load. But this "waiting lobby" was basically a game itself, that also took time & resources to load! As it turns out, nobody wants to wait for 2 loading screens. And nobody cares about a waiting lobby you can "walk around in", when that's literally all you could do. Turns out it's already frustrating enough waiting for your friends to get ready for a match even when you have the game already loaded. Who wants to wait for your friends in a virtual waiting lobby, so when you launch the game together, you can all wait some more while it loads? (I mean, regular waiting lobbies are already terribly boring, who thought a "virtual" one would be better?)

    Seriously, can anyone explain to me what use a Metaverse has?
    Let's just say it's all technically possible, tomorrow everyone has a VR Headset and can log on to the Metaverse and within the Metaverse can explore worlds that people make and play games that other people make.
    Now guess what, you can already play VR games other people make and Visit VR Places other people make.
    A Metaverse does nothing but add an extra step and is in the best case nothing but a fancy game lobby were you have yet another avatar and, probably a shit tone of advertisment and surely opportunities to spend your money.

      It's basically to give you a legitimate, tangible item to sell someone that can't be the same. Think of it as a...... uhh... a copyright or trademark on your item? If you're good at what you do you can sell those to people to make the crypto which could be translated into real money. You can make actual money putting your time and effort into making things and selling those unique, one of a kind items (as they would be in real life, actually) to people.
      In theory it would work. Whether it will or not in reality though remains to be seen. An example of an NFT that would make good money is an NFT of an item that ONLY you have. Say a special Karambit, using CS:GO as an example that was.... I dunno... Gold and obsidian that only YOU had and because it's an NFT it could, at least in the premise of NFTs, never be replicated. Selling that to someone could net you thousands because it's literally a one of a kind item that nobody else possesses. That's the theory behind them. An item that ONLY you have with hopes it'll go up in price. I could actually see NFTs being implemented into MMOs because when you approach the end game, they usually become about fashion and finding the coolest and best looking gear for your characters and having a one of a kind weapon or a one of a kind armor that only you can have backed on an NFT would bring in lots of money for people because some people go crazy with fashion and exclusivity in those games.

      Well, the product being produced is entertainment. So the ecosystem isn't closed and money will flow in from people seeking entertainment and flow out to people working on creating assets and services to entertain others. Ofcourse there appears to be layers of middlemen inbetween that coordinate and evaluates the various assets and services produced by the workers and artists and sell them in packedges to the consumers at what they values them to be worth.
      This seems to be an interesting idea that allowes capitallistic market driven economy to evaluate what different experiences in the game are worth depending on supply and demand.
      Of course this could still fail and burst like a bubble if it's overvalued or the game isn't fun to play in the long run. Still it seems to follow a sort of economic law of entropy, it doesn't produce more money out of thin air or only hold value as a sort of hot potato, some people will spend money on a product produced by this system so there should be a cash flow into the game of people that don't intend to ever make any of it back.

      One of the problems with youth (especially when you are in your 20s) is that you are smart, but you don't have wisdom or experience and you simply haven't seen enough. When you are 20, anything that comes out new is going to ' revolutionize' the world and you don't realize that in one way or another, much of this stuff has been done before in one form or another. The metaverse and NFTs are not ever going to be anything mainstream or an important part of even online life. Even the most wellknown digital thing, Bitcoins, is not used as a currency.. Yeah, you can buy it, hold it, and maybe sell it later for a profit, but that is exactly what you could do with tuilip bulbs, baseball cards and beanie babies. I can walk into almost any modern store selling any product and tap my phone on a register and buy something using USDs, there simply is no reason to use clunky bitcoins.

So each object has a set amount made of them, but you can make anything as long as you have the resources. In a sense yes eventually there will be so many items to choose from that their value will be almost nothing, but it is true in what they are mentioning. I also thing unlimited here would be something like 2^32 but our perception of how big that kind of number is is slowly shrinking in size. Much like how if I give you 10 tiles, 10 shapes to add to tiles in a grid fashion you will be able to make something like 10! x 10! and granted those would be unique, but all very similar.

    Im still just kind of miffed that every time a new NFT or crypto thing gets announced it is suddenly a new "metaverse". There is a lot more to a legit metaverse than having a way to get virtual currency or spend it. Past that every new project being a separate metaverse just makes it all the less special.

    no doubt one of their excuses for DRONE already dying is that "we're waiting for it to go free to play", even though the entire reason why they joined E2 in the first place is the reason why some joined DRONE - payout, where the earlier you get in the more you get out in terms being early to 'create' (i.e. mostly steal) designs to sell later...supposedly.
    The fact that so few are willing to pay to get into DRONE early; clearly shows just how many regret putting anything into E2 to begin with.

    Considering that I own a VR headset and the only game worth playing on it right now is H3VR, and that no major releases have come out on the platform after the initial rush except a handful of zombie shooters, I would strongly doubt that the "metaverse" is ever going to be a thing. The technology has no support from actual developers, it's still insanely expensive if we talk about any degree of realism and the market's being cornered by cheap, shitty, portable quick experiences except for maybe a couple, and even then they don't amount to much more to gimmicky first person games.
    This "Metaverse" fad is just trying to ride on the coattails of the crypto boom and taking advantage of suckers that want to make a buck with promises of a product that current and near future technology and content simply cannot meet.

    You nailed coffin of E2

  • @mariusvanc
    @mariusvanc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    This is a very simple concept. E2 has no customers, because E2 has no product/service, thus it cannot cashflow to its "investors", or create value. E2 IS the product. E2 "investors" are not buying productive assets that will cashflow or appreciate in value, they are consuming a product. THEY are the customers. This is why other metaverses are selling tiles for 10s of thousands, and E2 tiles sell for pennies. E2 is, at best, a pure speculative play, with memecoins having even more utility than it does, because you can actually trade and use memecoins on the open market. Now, it will get better when E2 launches a game, of some sort, that tile owners can use to monetize their tiles. But that's a big if. Sandbox may be basic, and small, and fledgling, but it's usable, it's here and now, and it works, so it's already miles more promising than E2.

    • @tvctaswegia497
      @tvctaswegia497 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly. A company stock goes up as it produces something and has measurable value and growth. There is literally nothing to E2 but fomo, speculation and greed. It has no use case and no utility whatsoever except sucking in the gullible and fleecing their cash until the pyramid scheme collapses under it's own mass due to running out of 'investors' selling pictures to each other which have no value or use in the real world.

    I do not agree that NFTs are "the future" in any sense. Their "current state" as you call it is what they will always be, the part of them being a string of code that "cannot be replicated" won't ever change and that is, frankly, part of why they're so easily abused and scammed. NFTs are another novelty and interest in it will wane over time. I do agree that humanity in general is moving more and more digital, but there are some things I don't think will stand the test of time, NFTs included.

    People who want metaverses because they LOVE being on the edge of tech, that's totally cool. People pushing metaverses so they can create a monopoly over stuff that has no intrinsic value but go after a person's primal FOMO, they should swing from lampposts. We don't need more monopolies. FOMO is legitimate. Until extremely recently, even on a generational scale, if you missed out on a critical resource, you died. Missed out on finding that pond or lake to fish from? Hunger. Missed out on collecting clean drinking water? Thirst. Uninterested in developing social skills? Loneliness and the end of your genetic line, which has been unbroken for over 2 billion years. Two billion years is a long time to code into DNA that missing out = death.
    Also, there's a reason social pain hurts so bad and subsequently people fear it so much. Social/emotional pain is on par with all but the most grievous wounds, diseases infesting your body, parasites feeding on your very life fluids, and your squishy parts malfunctioning. If an early human was ostracized from a group, they dead. Kicked out of their band or tribe for some reason? You're isolated and alone, with your soft pink skin, no claws, laughable strength, low sprint capacity, though physically humans excel at endurance. Humanity won the top spot by working in groups, creating languages, abstract plans like hunting/war tactics, and working in numbers. A lone person has one advantage and a dozen disadvantages.
    Fuck people preying on FOMO. String them up.
