Just think of all of the fools who reject this film as outdated "toxic masculinity", who never think about these later scenes: the petite, upstanding Millie has KICKED ALL of the brothers out of THEIR OWN HOUSE, and they are reduced to "yes, Ma'am/no, Ma'am" subservience. This is one of the greatest scripts of all time, with every scene, every line contributing to and advancing the story of these wonderful characters and their relation to one another. Too bad the final music cue got clipped, because it so beautifully tells us how Millie is thinking of (and missing) her own husband. [And Virginia Gibson ..upper left in the greenish-blue and red plaid..is so lovely; how sad to realize that she ended up a cripple in a wheelchair in her old age, presumably a result of her dancing career].
If you watch Millie in the lead up to the song Going Courting and all through the song, she takes command of the scene even though physically she is totally dominated by the men.
@@Vydio Absolutely. And how about the street fight in town ("What fer? there's only three little ones") where the petite Millie has to actually DUCK to avoid being hit by big Jeff Richard's swing, only to dress him down and embarrass him in public? She's totally in command (and the guys love it).
Not the first one of them seems to know how to close a door in the face of a cold winter night.
