      @@AzureAcademy it's a good question. I'm finding that when I think of something a video pops up on the notifications. One thing would be good is Site Recovery between regions. How that works if you have an express route or VPN to site. Maintaining same IP addresses / subnets and how routing works in failover. Site recovery if you have VMs in a proximity group is not available in GUI and have to it manually. Quite painful!

    • @richardlphillips
      @richardlphillips 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also how can you replicate WVD functionality between regions. Guess if you do that there no availability set etc you just end up with a bunch of VMs🤔. That's my half baked thought process. Unless you just spin up VMs from a template in different regions. I haven't really thought about how that would work 🤔🤔🤔

    Great video, love your channel as i've learned alot. Just note that using Office Container has problems with sharepoint sync. There seems to be a bug with FSLogix office container that can cause a sharepoint sync to automatically delete the library you are synced with. Not only does it delete the files, but it first renames and moves them so it's impossible to just restore from sharepoint recycle bin. It's as if some sycn database was corrupted as when a user goes to try to launch their file, it gives an error it no longer exist. And when you go the site online you'll see the file name but it's extension was changed, (in our case from xlsx to pdf). So if you launch the file as a pdf, it will open, but it's a different file. Seems to only occur on first sync and at random, not every user. For users who successfully synced, it doesn't seem to ever occur after. So you have to do a Site restore and if you didn't catch this in time, you need to first copy files modifed and added following the issue. it's a big mess, especially if you haven't been backing up your sharepoint data using 3rd party backup solutions. The first time we encountered this it took nearly a week working with MS to get the files back. Long story short, I started with single profile containers with no issues, an MS partner recommended using office containers for easier office troubleshooting. That's when the problems started. MS now recommends not to use Office containers (at least per the several engineers I worked with) with WVD unless you have a strong use case and definitely do not use if you are allowing sync from sharepoint. So unlike in the earlier documentation where the office container steps were mentioned, you wont find it in the updated documentation. I have not run in to this issue with users Onedrive sync. I have since gone back to just the profile container and life is grand again :) Looks like this issue has existed for a bout a year now and they still haven't found the cause or fix but at the same time have not published any articles warning the user base...

    • @AzureAcademy
      @AzureAcademy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      oh wow! In general I don't recommend using FSLogix office containers in WVD because all the data is in the user profile already...so you aren't giving anything up. But as I mentioned there are SOME scenarios that really benefit from it.
      I don't think that this could be caused by FSLogix, because as I said it is a cache.
      Also FSLogix office data is written to the FSLogix share, not Sharepoint, so I don't know how you would even be able to write to sharepoint at all, and if you did where did the permissions come from??? It is possible that some other process is happening at the same time causing the issue, anything is possible I guess...I would suggest opening a support ticket to dig into this issue.
      let me know how this all goes. 👍👍

    • @ChrisCrowesAbode
      @ChrisCrowesAbode 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@AzureAcademy Yes, it's a mind bender for sure. When I opened a ticket with Microsoft to recover the files it was the MS engineers who asked me about my setup and when i told them i had split containers setup and was using Office containers they recommended against it and believed it was the cause. I initially argued that because I didn't see how; However, I've only been able to reproduce it when I use an office container. And not to confuse anyone, FSLogix is not writing to sharepoint or anything of that nature, it is not responsible for the lost and rewritten data directly. It is the onedrive sync to sharepoint that is doing the destruction. It's as if the information stored on the office container gets botched when you first sync a sharepoint library and throws off the onedrive sync. I did have a ticket open for this but it didn't get anywhere. They simply told me it was being looked in to and mentioned it wasn't yet supported for WVD. This was just last month. If I hear anything new, i'll for sure provide an update.

    • @AzureAcademy
      @AzureAcademy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if you can reopen that ticket, or get a ticket opened for the issue again, ask them to have the ticket given to the WVD support or FSLogix teams so we have the right people evaluating the issues from the FSLogix side, because if it is a problem they need to know

    • @abhishekacharyaofficial
      @abhishekacharyaofficial 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AzureAcademy sure... Alerting on a threshold profile size, alerting on share size. And probably clean up of profiles not being used. :)
      But shrinking is the most important one.

    • @AzureAcademy
      @AzureAcademy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We can alert on the share size in Azure but not the profile size. That happens inside windows and you would need windows level tools…or the FSLogix error logs that the profile disk can’t be written to because it is full. I get around this by creating dynamic profiles with a large size and the users won’t be able to fill them…then combine that with the profile shrink tool to keep things under control.

    • @AzureAcademy
      @AzureAcademy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure there is enough here for a full video...but I am planning a “2 minute tutorial” series this might fit there.
      As for what people use it for...that depends on what they don’t want in their FSLogix profiles.
      The only thing that is common is teams cache.
      Other things like OneDrive outlook cache are specifically inside a user profile folder so in order to put them into the redirections xml file you would have to be able to script variables into a xml file...and I don’t know how you could do that yet.
      I will research and get back to you

    Hi Dean, great video! I have an issue with FSLogix and if you don't think it's the right place to answer, it's no problem.
    We have a RDS environment with FSLogix where we use folder redirection for multiple folders. We're in the process of customizing FSlogix and want to stop redirecting StartMenu.
    I created a copy of the original GPO which applies to a test user and for the original I applied deny apply(to that user). When this user logs in now, he still gets his start menu redirected. The only way to get correct start menu is by recreating FSLogix profile. Any idea? It's something in Appdata, registry that is being kept in the fslogix profile, but I can't seem to find it.

    • @AzureAcademy
      @AzureAcademy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I won’t be able to figure it out without logs...however I suggest opening a support ticket to resolve it. My question is are you applying the GPO to a user or a computer?

    • @none55931
      @none55931 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the reply. It's a user GPO applied to a computer OU with loopback processing enabled. I only asked the question to check if it's a known issue or limitation that is not yet documented. Will further investigate. Thank you anyway.
