Mind blown! I'm still a beginner mandolin player and know the notes, but I never noticed the repeating pattern on the fretboard. Thank you for a plate of vegetables! Keep the videos coming.
Very useful lesson Wayne, so important to know the fretboard. If you find yourself struggling to get out of first position remember those open string notes GDAE besides repeating at the 12th fret, partially repeat: 5th fret x-gda and 7th fret daeb. So any thing you can play in open first position can be moved up and played in closed position. See you in No Man’s Land above the 5th fret!
Forgive me if I have overlooked and missed the video, but I feel it would be very beneficial to your viewers, myself included, if you could offer a video on instrument maintenance; changing strings, fretboard care, finish conditioning, etc. Thank you for your willingness to share your knowledge, experience, and methodical approach with others who have a desire to be a better player. The delivery of the material you cover in each video is second to none!
That's an original tune of mine called Donner Pass. You can listen to the entire cut at Spotify or wherever you stream music. It's under the artist name Benson.
Wayne, you are absolutely the best mandolin teacher I know of…

Thx for the comment Jack. Have you ever seen those banjo player t-shirts that say "Ain't No Money Passed the 5th Fret"? I love those......
Another great "eat your vegetables" video for learning the fret board! Thx!
Great points Wayne. I learn something and get inspired from each of these lessons. Thank you again and again! So helpful!

Thx so much for the encouraging comment! That's a great idea for a video and it's now officially on my to do list for the channel 😀 👍
Loving your videos Wayne!
Thx Gary. I love having the channel....
Thanks Wayne. I'll give it a shot.
I've purposely avoided this for years thinking that I could get by on intervals and patterns.
Don't abandon the intervals and patterns, just add new fretboard knowledge to the devices you've already learned....
Man whats that song at the intro? Sounds amazing!

Yep. Got this from my first guitar teacher, and have applied it to the mandolin. Very important to know this.
You're right John. This is must know on any fretted instrument......
Wayne how about a lesson on your intro?
Thx for asking about that John! It's just something I thru together in my home studio. Maybe I can get around to that this winter.....
