If the greatest rock singer alive tells you that dogs can sing, you better believe it. It's awesome to see Myles delve into other ventures besides what he's well known for.

Cool to see Myles Kennedy narrating this. Now if only I could get my dog to pronounce better, I could put him in a band to do growl vocals. Name the band Dogma.

With his foundation, Myles Kennedy takes care of children and young people and promotes their talents! I don't even want to know how many J.S.Bachs, Picassos or Dante Alighieris we have lost because they were not supported! Kudos, Mr. Kennedy, kudos! And of course kudos to Elizabeth for posting this video on her channel to support his project!

Myles, I hope you turn the side-gig as a voice-over artist into another cash-stream... do got the natural voice for informal communication.
My dogs : RIP, Belle and Farfel, Blue Heelers.
They had a 'family song', sung whenever we'd do thing as a pack, er, group.
They had their own parts, and they sang it the same time after time.
When the coyotes living in the ravine below us would yelp up, the two heelers would get all quiet and look with disdain... and if I dared yip up with the 'yotes, my dogs would shame me into silence with their worried looks. "Don't sing with them ,Dad.... wrong family"
And when Belle passed away, she tried valiantly to sing her part of the song, even tho Farfel had passed away 6 months earlier... I tried my best to hold down Farfel's lines (I'd heard it for 12+ years... it was ingrained). I'd like to think it helped Belle, but I'll never know for sure.
    GREAT Topic! Amazing voice-over.
    Thank you.

Been desperately waiting for a new The Singing Hole knowledge shot 😃 This is a great one. My experience of human-animal communication is mainly cat based, so the look from the other side is very interesting. Maybe I should join my neighbor's dog in singing the next time it's howling. Guess the wrong pitch should be no problem for me - just hope the neighbors won't call the doctor 🤪 Jokes aside, I really like the scientific breakdown. It's well focused and vividly explained, especially the part about the fundamentals and the lowered larynx of a loud bark. A big 👍 to you and your team! AND I absolutely love that you promote Myles Kennedy's Future Song Foundation ❤. This is certainly something I'll consider to support! Totally love it! Thank you!!

One year I played Christmas songs on my violin for my mother and step dad. They had a shih tzu and she (the dog) started singing along with my (somewhat bad) violin playing. Personally I think she did a better job of actually hitting the notes than I did.

I can't even begin to express how much I enjoyed this video. My 2 best friends are dogs. One is a natural hunter, and very expressive with body language and his bark. (I can interpret all of it) and the other a natural howler. They are close and influence each other.
The both howl when I "leave the pack" to "go hunt" (shop for food) or when they just ate (bragging about their nice dinner?) or, since I live in a remote village in Bosnia and am sadly not allowed to have them live inside with me, they howl when something approaches that they feel the need to warn the pack about.
The natural howler has a gorgeous howl. The natural hunter is usually flat and kinda half assed about it, and it cracks me up and makes my day.
Thank you for making this video. I could go on and on, but just know it made my day!

The sneezing as communication is definitely something we see with our pupper. If we give a command and he isn't into it, we often get a "fuff" (like a sneeze) and he walks away.
Also, he only howls when my spouse isn't around. Once I was practicing SOVT with a straw, he decided to join in. I figured if I joined him, it would let him know that I miss her too when she's away.

I find my dog, a husky, loves to chill out with me whenever I play Pink Floyd and The Beatles. He does chill if I listen to other music, but The Beatles and Pink Floyd seems to be his favourite, he'll often lay by me or right next to me if I have any era Pink Floyd or Beatles song playing. I am convinced they are his favourite bands.

Couldn’t stop thinking about one of my old linguistics teacher when I was a student, with whom I had a strong argument at the end of a class about language used by dogs (and animals in general). She argued that animal language was merely an automatic and triggered response, and not a true language. I still strongly disagree with her, as her point is just a small piece of a complex panel of communication. I didn’t think about the singing aspect as I didn’t know much about it at the time - thanks for the video, and for the many papers quoted too - but I pointed out the behavior of my former 4-legged friend who, at the end of his life, seconds before his last seizure, looked at my dad, then my mom, then me, right in the eyes, intense looks, and right after the next seizure we knew he was gone. That was no triggered behavior that someone taught him, that was pure and authentic voiceless communication, a body language. Of course my former teacher being a university teacher, there were no way a student could have known better than her, but to this day I still wonder about that pride and need of superiority, and I will do my best to keep being an open-minded teacher 🐾
Thanks so much for bringing that subject in a video, as I love music and dogs as much as learning 🐾🎶🤍

    • @matthewclark4658
      @matthewclark4658 ปีที่แล้ว

I imagine that the time and energy expenditure for these video is significantly higher than the main channel. I’m sure many hours are done in making sure that all the info in the video is the most up to date. We all have higher expectations of ourselves than we can sometimes meet, we learn our limits and move forward. Once a month seems a realistic goal for a video of this quality in terms of production and imparted knowledge.

What I think is cool is *how* a dog sings. Specifically, a wolf or pointy-muzzled dog makes an "oooo" sound the same way a human does, despite its very different face shape: it brings the sides of its lips far forward. In humans we call it "rounding", which doesn't really describe the result for a canine, but they're making the same basic movement.

I might be barking mad, but I was inspired by my dog as a kid, a 170 lbs. long haired Saint Bernard. Her baritone howls caused the neighbors' pooches to join in - their version of the "twilight bark". My avatar reflects this, though I found a goofier picture. Myles did a howling good job and had enough leash to include his canine pals. Did Elizabeth do any pet sounds in this? 🐺🦮
