- An investigation into whether a 15 year old South Hadley High School student was bullied before she died... continues.
Autopsy results for Phoebe Prince have not been made public but school officials say, she committed suicide.
Sounds like a school I should go to but most likely be expeled for hitting someone with a bat for bulling me.
from this point onward, I vow i will ALWAYS think twice before I say something, and I hope others will too. Phoebe did not deserve this. No one does.
TEAM PHOEBE!
dang! how could such gorgeous girls (one of them being okay) be bullied? the bullies must've been jealous and ugly.
Those bullies are jerks! Now they know being bullied is not a fun feeling
I can't believe it had to come to this for people to realize that this IS serious!
It has been going on for years and its finally getting to the "teachers" and "students" and "parents" it didnt have to come to this, and i feel terrible.
Teachers and administrators in almost every school district have ignored this problem for decades; they could have stopped it but instead opted not to,
Ive heard it said stupidity and incompetence have many virtues but consistency isn't one of them, this leads me to believe it's purposefully allowed
bullying a bully will make you a bully too.
revenge is never the answer.
This school must be sued for ignoring warnings
This story especially gets to me. Bullying really does hurt and even once it's passed, it leaves such a horrible feeling inside you.. i would know. Rest in peace, Phoebe Prince.
Bullies are just pathetic......
I applaud these girls for admitting and recognizing the severity of bullying, unlike those idiot students on the news that believe its not a problem and it "happens everywhere". Apparently the S Hadley Education System is very very inadequate for this to have been repeated several times, and the denial of knowledge about bullying from the faculty is more evident as dismissal and neglect, very much alike to the bullies' parents. Have they even made any apology to the family of Ms. Prince? RIP P.P
Young bullies grow up to be bullies when they're adults. I don't know if it's a personality trait you can change. Maybe it can be changed with some people. I think it comes from insecurity and low self-esteem. How can bullying not be a result of some self-esteem issue? A bully feels empowered by bullying someone. Each act is like a quick fix for poor self-esteem. The people in my life that have been bullies are insecure people. Insecure, envious, vindictive, resentful, but mostly, insecure.
Its time for schools to get rid of the term "bullying" altogether and replace it with "harassment." Bullying is an outdated term and doesnt carry the same legal consequences as "harassment. Clearly a kid who is a victim of harassment has greater legal recourse than one who is a victim of "bullying. Businesses have a zero tolerance policy for harassment in the work place and schools should begin to model their policies similarly.
DUDE thats STALKING, and CYBER-BULLYING, thats just messed up
she was gorgeous rest in peace
I read an article about those kids that bullied Phoebe they said that they wished this never happened my reply was ,"THEN YOU SHOULD"VE FUKING THOUGHT OF THAT BEFORE YOU BULLIED HER BECAUSE OF YOU SHE'S DEAD AND YOU ARE PAYING FOR IT. A kid at my school said that they are lucky that he doesnt know were they lived.
PLEASE END BULLYING ONCE AND FOR ALL!!!!!
Wow, this school must have some messed up people in it if they caused all these people so much trouble and pain.
How can you really dislike this... 2 people are very ignorant
obviously the school understands what is going on and does not seem to care about
This is sad, I have been bullied myself when growing up and not knowing why. Every single fucking year!! I have been to different schools but bullying was everywhere and I didn't know why. Thought it was because I was hearing impaired, but no, it was that I was different in some way. In 2003 I was diagnosed with Asperger;'s Syndrome. Now I know why I was "different" Bullying is abuse and can haunt you for life. I am 30 now and still traumatized. I want to tell my life story here on TH-cam.
When I heard this story, I was completely devastated. I've been through the same thing. Just not online... At the time, there was no such thing as Facebook or MySpace or whatever. The bullies at school did it face to face, in extreme ways. They tried to set me on fire with a spray can of deodorant and a cigarette lighter, and tried to slash my throat with keys.
South Hadley High School should be burnt to the ground
BULLYING IS NOTHING BUT A FORM OF HOMICIDE ! Bullying in school MUST stop. i personally was bullied because i had low self esteem, learning disability & dyslexia. i was close to commit suicide. i know what it feels like!
I'm in love with the news reporter. Sad story but when I saw her face that made me smile.
I do not think "cyber bullying" should be considered a crime, nor should it be treated like it's own entity either. The internet is just another line of communication. People shouldn't be thrown in jail for being rude or insensitive. As heinous as they may seem, it's a part of life. Even if it it get's to the point of harassment, it's too easy to block those kind of negative messages or simply turn off your computer.
We have the namesand photos in the press here in Ireland, don't you have them in the States too - assuming you are from there?
Poor girl. She was so so sweet and seemed so pretty.
These seems to be a lot of bullying at South Hadley, & the faculty doesn't seem to do much about it. I wonder what it will take to end the bullying at South Hadley... There's already been one suicide - How many more will it take for those kids to finally understand the consequences of their actions?
my english is not very good! can you tell me that? were these girls bullied too?
@doda I was a victim too but was fortunate I went to school in the days before Facebook, Myspace, texting, etc. back in the 90s. Even if I was being picked on at school, at least I had peace when I came home. Today's kids don't have that luxury and all parents should be concerned because Phoebe could have been their child. Bullies and their parents shoud be concerned too because surveys show a lot of bullies usually become criminals or drug addicts when they grow up.
You cant runaway to a new highschool and hope the bullying ends. Bullies are everywhere! Not just highschool.
I sincerely hope that those who made this girls life intolerable pay the consequences.......they obviously have no remorse so punishment by LAW is the ONLY answer. There is no excuse for what they did.....no excuse at all..!!!
Those girls are gorgeous!!! Looks like jealousy is an epidemic at South Hadley
@Matttheweatherman13 You said "I know because I actually stand up for people that are being bullied."
I'm proud of you for saying that, and I believe it also.
Also:
What is the problem about "getting found out"?
You are writing a letter about the school's bullying problem. It is addressed to the school. It will not mention the bullies by name. If the bullies ask if you complained about them, just say no. That is the truth.
They will never find out anything. Who would tell them?
wow that goes to show u that people will hate on anyone because i dont see how people could hate on this girl when shes pretty and looks like a nice girl. RIP Phoebe Prince
crazy these days.. School administrative don't care about anyone. When I was in high school bullying happen all the time and our school didn't bother to do anything about it. We really need to do something about this, cause it's a big problem.
poor Girl!!!!!!!
@jrsam25 They are the worst thing in school. Its a tragedy that horrible events like this only finally brought this subject to public attention. For too many decades bullying was trvialized aned rarely openly spoke about.. Trauma from bullying can last a lifetime. I hope the school adminstrators who turned a blind eye lose their jobs, lose their teaching certificates, and are hit with a personal lawsuit. Those who persecuted that young lady should lose their freedom via their courts.
DontDoDrugs. The fact that she was "a pretty girl" is irrelevant. It is terrible for any child's parents to face this. If bullying gets to this stage, the police MUST be involved. If the police do not act, then go to the media. Raise it as a national issue. Go right to the top, city hall, state, federal.
Bullying was not what it used to be. It is so much worse now.
@kidslessons4life I am in my last year to become a kindergartenteacher and I too have been bullied. I will show my future little kids respect!!
i have been looking into this and many similar stories and i wish i could do somthing to stop it...wait I CAN WE CAN!!!!!! why do we watch this crap happen and do nothing?!we should all ban together to stop things like this that are makeing our world sad.God wants us to somthing so we should. But I will always remember...
"God needed her in Heaven someone beautiful and smart to keep him company and to be strong."
May Pheobe Meghan and others be in our hearts for a long time.We can stop it!
@bjggjb Are children allowed to carry guns and knives in the US? Do they have to check in their weapons when the come into the school, like in Dodge City?
Bystanders have more power than they think. If you see a child getting attacked, help them, or chase the bullies away.
We can stop bullying, only with the cooperation of the bystanders.
Sadly, in this case, the bullying rapists may have acted when they knew not many or any witnesses were present. Psychotic criminals attack & rape when no one is around. The rapists named by the poster below must be brought to justice. Like prison with no parole. We don't need rapist scum on this planet.
Understandable.
I've been bullied once or twice too.
But not as much as Phoebe, I can only imagine the pain she went through.
I hope the girls responsible for making Phoebe feel a if she had no other way out are held responsible for the acts they committed. :)
@botchalism Okay, if 18 isn't old enough to know what they're doing, then what is? How many serial killers would you set free because they weren't "emotionally mature" enough to know what they were doing?
@fthis12345 YOU should be ashamed of yourself for a reaction like that. I hope one day you'll feel the pain she felt. You deserve it.
Damnn!
Why not do something about? I wouldn't let them bully me.
@rivnerivne yes these girls were bullied too and decided to go to a different highschool
@SugarTomAppleRoger Earlier in May, Kayla Narey expressed a LOT of remorse regarding the way she treated Phoebe. She was crying her eyes out and read a statement, saying "I am sorry Phoebe. I am sorry for the unkind things I said....It was my hurt, anger and jealousy that caused my attitude to change... That’s when I had my chance to act like the person I was raised to be. I failed. I was the weak one and that failure will always be with me" so she's more sorry than u think. So is Longe.
and usually its the bullies that comes out of school UNSUCCESSFUL! I was bullied in school also, never to the extent of even thinking about killing myself but still, any type of bullying is STILL bullying. Now I have my property lying on 4 acres of piece of paradise, I drive around in my own cars, I'm married to my beautiful wife and I'm only 26! I still see some of these pathetic bunch from school days, Giving me mad respect even at times saluting me! like I'm a fuckin sergeant or something.
@flowr96 thank you
who would dislike this video
It is very sad. I hope people don't forget Phoebe's case. We all have to do out best to prevent bullying. It means writing to the authorities, especially Obama, and telling him we care.
South Hadley, Massachusetts aka The Land of Mordor must be a rotten little town.
Man if I went to the same schoo that English girl did, I would've got her back and defended her 24/7! I want to freakin torture those bullies!
I'm not saying they shouldn't be punished. They defiantly should be punished.
But there is no need to stoop to they're level and be bullies ourselves.
Murder is considered wrong, but the truth is, society will be better off without certain types of people(serial murders, pedofiles, man beating women, etc.). Bullies fall into this category.
@botchalism The key difference is that you're a full-grown man and this is the internet, you don't have to come here if you don't like how people act. When you're 16, it's different, the world looks smaller, it's harder to imagine things outside of your own situation. Also, when it's something that happens at school, it's something that can't be avoided.
this is terrible i hate cyberbullying it makes me affraid tht it might happen to me
@DMDTagz Are you for real?, I'm glad that you were able to survive that......
This sort of thing gets out of hand when a school's administration is weak. I would fire the leadership immediately and install some people with a backbone who can stand up to the parents and the students who test the limits of civil society.
Most likely, the bullying rapists will get away with mere slap on the wrist. The "justice" system won't do much.
It's up to the college admission officers, employers and others with a little bit of authority and power to deny the evil bullies and guilty rapists Ashley Longe, Shannon Charon, Flannery Mullins, and Kayla Narey any opportunity. As member of the public, beware of these criminals and make sure you are prepared to deal with them if they ever cross your path.
@WhatsAYak Bazelon is a graduate from Yale law school and was senior editor for the Yale law school journal and is not only a writer but senior editor for Slate. She has written for the New York Times, The Boston Globe, The Washington Post, and The New Republic. She also worked as a reporter in San Francisco and is a freelance journalist in Israel. Add to that she is senior research scholar in law at Yale law School. If she's not a qualified journalist, please oh please tell me who is!?
this is from one of Justin Bieber's interviews with Ellen, Justin said this "Theres so many bullies goes on so much I think that you should expectually if your bystander you know you should help out because you know it could be you next." this guys expectually guys should look at this interview and this made me really respect Justin Bieber along with his kind heart for charity hes a kid that all of you people should seriously look up to instead of hate on him
They should make students who constantly bully other students take their class work to a prison for a week (obviously under supervision, but encourage the prisoners to harass them). They need to feel what it's like to be bullied; imprisoned by everyone and made a spectacle.
@BettorOffSingle How would that do any good? You'd be punishing innocent kids as well as the kids who are victims. I'm not surprised the receptionist hung up on you.
I was a bullied kid in high school. The teachers & administration were useless. There were maybe 10 bullies in my graduating class (although I graduated from a different school). How is it fair to punish the 3000 kids that graduated that year due to the actions of 10 individuals?
@BettorOffSingle How was that a legitimate response?
I ask you again: What's to stop the bullies themselves, or anyone else for that matter, from transferring schools? Again, that's not solving the problem, it's MOVING it. And you would be punishing students who may not have seen the bullying occur.
P.S.
By saying that you will refuse to hire people who attend South Hadley, you're begging for somebody to sue you. Discrimination much?
@hsdgysh Thanx :) Yeah, unfortunately I am for real. Wish I was lying. Thats mainly why this story gets to me so much.
I'm not sure about the charges the bullies are currently getting. But they should have been charged a long time ago with harrassment and making threats.
The problem is that students need to be charged with this stuff BEFORE someone is driven to suicide and not just after the fact. The sad problem is that these kids will only be punished because she killed herself. Had that not happened, everything would still be the same.
@botchalism An 18 year old is not a "child." 18 is old enough to get married and join the army, both life-changing decisions. Even if they were a couple of months away from being old enough to choose who to live with for the rest of their lives or whether or not to die for their country, it's close enough.
@yerk3 You misspelled "adress" LOL! ^_^
Im from a small town too!
Where did you learn that people who commit suicide go to hell? That;s not a Biblical teaching.
"if only there was some law that allowed conditioning to harden parents" First of all, why would you want to harden parents? Wouldn't you want to harden the children against bullies? Secondly, you really want MORE laws dictating to people how to raise their children? The government is not our parent, people should have the liberty to raise their children however they see fit.
So you want to spread the bullying problem by getting even. Stooping to a bullies level makes you as bad as them. An eye for and eye makes the whole world blind.
RIP Phoebe
@petuniamighty A negligence case is long overdue.
@botchalism She didn't "steal" anyone's boyfriend. She was seduced by a complete scumbag. It is obvious that you know one of these fiends, or else you wouldn't be going to bat for them even after you've been proved wrong time and again. Nobody was "losing" a partner, the dude didn't break up with his girlfriend, he seduced a freshman girl behind her back, then ran back to her when he was done.
@TROYNDEX
What kind of paper? Do you have a thesis statement? It appears you are already bias and that may effect your writing!
@machete397
I never said anyone should be bullied at all!
appreciate your passion.
I read about her in my seventeen mag...its truly sad...I see jerks talking mess about other peopleall the time... and the worse ones are people that dont realize they are doing :( I had a close friend this year go and round up a bunch of other girls to go an ''question'' a girl who was wearing a VERY cute outfit and took guts to wear might I add. and they interogated her to freaking death and made her admit things like cutting, and poverity. to them which were non of their buisness :/ *sigh*
Has anyone here heard of or read a book called "The Revealers" by Doug Wilhelm? I think it should be mandatory reading for middle and high school students who are being bullied. It shows a good way for the victims to find a voice and to fight back against the bully.
Read it for yourselves, I think you will find it very illuminating.
These are just mean, evil kids who, up until now, always got away with everything. I hope they are proud of themselves! Especially the assholes who continued to be cruel to her even in death on Facebook!
RIP Phoebe .
The evil sadistic scum who raped and tormented this poor innocent girl to her grave are all being charged with various criminal offences against poor Phoebe, thank God, let's hope and pray they all rot in Jail and ultimately Hell where they will never get a chance to continue to torment this angel in Heaven.
@botchalism You've devoted an entire post to nitpicking on someone's spelling? Really? Nice way to avoid having to adress anything that person actually said.
These people make me realize that I had it easier than I thought I did in middle school and high school. I was a wimp.
Unforntunatley,..this doesnt happen only in Highschool, but very much in the real world too!! Certainley in the work places, from Bosses doing it, to other coworkers..All of it over pety stupid shit that they feel threatened about...
i was a bully in high school. i would be a dick towards others, i feel bad when i remember those days when i would treat like crap other kids, specially when i see news like this. but the think is that besides those bullies it should also be the school authorities the ones to be blamed cuz they knew what was going on, in their onw school and they chose no to do anything just like when i was in high school 15 years ago. nobody did anything to stop me from bein a prick in hs
@Aresolar690 Yeah, South Hadley High School has a reputation of bullying. 2 or 3 students transferred because they were being bullied.
I took the fires of my personal Hell and used them to immolate the kids that were bullying me. Kids today are raised to be non combative, to put up with the abuse they receive. Then it just wears them down until they snap and go to school with a gun or hang themselves in their closet.
Kids today need to toughen up, to learn to fight back. If you touch a nerve or, in the case of physical bullying, make them limp they'll leave you alone.
I feel sorry for an insensitive twit like you.
Bottom line, children. Get in first. The one who first complains in writing is believed. If the bully complains officially about you, then they will be believed. Get it. Move first!
damn, why are girls so mean to other girls? these days guys dont bully to these extent
@botchalism Do you know what's cruel and unusual? Parents coming home and finding their daughter hanging in the stairwell, that's fucking cruel and unusual. Disciplining arrogant little brats for harassing another child to the point of suicide, that's another thing entirely.
@DMDTagz I'm sorry that happened to you. That sounds like what happened at my school, they cut a girls hair and used lighters on her too. Because supposedly she hooked up with one of the girls bf's.
@DixieKorley I'm with you. Nobody ever bullied me again after I kicked the last one's ass. I was the quite one so he thought I was an easy target. I'm the first senior to start a fight in 2006 Taunton High school in Massachusetts, graduated with respect.
I'm not trivializing the suicides but why are kids so fragile these days? I was bullied from first grade on up until I graduated. It came in all forms. Rumors were spread about me, some of which still follow me in my 30s, I was teased, ridiculed, tossed off of bleachers, had knives pulled on me, you name it I've experienced it.
Yet I didn't cry to the media and I didn't consider suicide. I returned the insults. I made my bullies bleed... (continued)
@misskrissxoxo Thank you. And about the girl. I hope she broke the bully's heart, making her depressed and stuff... that'll be like... true justice :)
A little off putting that the video is about a suicide and the Ad before the video is a model singing "push it, push it really good"
I don't get why people think that just because they're children and that they shouldn't be sent in court just for bullying, if the same acts were done outside the guise of the walls of a high school the charges make sense. What got me is they couldn't find really any flaws about her so the best they could come up with was "Irish", seriously?
charge the teachers, NO protection for Phoebe. RIP Phoebe
