Get home bag = make it home during some abnormal situation. Bug out bag = leave a usual safe place such as your house to get to a pre-determined secondary location, usually with a cache or stockpile prepared ahead of time and have the items needed to complete a way to survive for maybe up to a week. Long term survival in the wild is almost impossible and if you don't believe me check out the show Alone. These are some of the absolute best in the world with survival in the wilderness and before the end of the show they have withered down to almost nothing. I love the fact that while your putting your bag together you ask the important questions and think things out rationally. You are very practical in your setup. I do carry some extra first aid stuff in the case that a first responder is on sight with proper training and I witness a car wreck. With their training they can put these items to proper use but I myself am not trained to use them.

I don't like the differenciation. I have all in one. something I can grab to get along when I have to leave a burning flat, something I can make use of when i am stranded at a train station, something I can use to get home when I can't use a train, car or plane, something to be able to stay over night when it wasn't the plan in the first place. All in one solution. It doesn't weigh much more and doesnt hinder me if I don't need it.

@@couchcamperTM sounds like to me you have a very rare but useful setup that I would say is kind of a hobo setup. These people used to be able to wonder from town to town clear across the country and make it with what they had on their back. If that's the case for you then great!

@@couchcamperTM I'm just saying I get home bag and a bug out bag or typically two different things and they are typically for two different purposes. If you are set up where you can do both with one bag and it's not that heavy than that's fantastic. I think you should make a video, tag me in it and let me get some info from you because it sounds great.

I quit making videos a long time ago, but if I do it again, my pack will be shown. @@acbigal It all started with the idea to have a daypack, that can have stuff for an overnighter but still looks like one of a student going for errands^^. finding a sleeping pad was the hardest part. There's only super bulky foam mats or super unreliable expensive air mats... I thought.
but I also thought going UL is for rich kids, and found a 86 grams backpack for 25 bucks. not dyneema. and bigger than Tommis backpack. the downside: no MOLLE xD

Great video! I agree 100%. My home is my fortress so my plan is always to get back home. I have a bag with those items in my car, my wife’s car, and my daughter’s car. We all know how to use those items to assist us in getting home as fast as possible. Proper clothing, good shoes and a light pack. Keep up the good work! A lot of people still need to learn how to prepare properly.

@@kaptenslogg Holy shit! You, sir, are a hardcore ENFP. I *LOVE* it. Ha! AWESOME.
I seriously appreciate what you had to say about helping people in this or the subsequent smaller survival pack video (sorry, I'm playing catch up on my comments activity so am trying to keep track).
Ugh, I have to say, the bravado and ego-laden GHB / BOB American-based commentary and load out videos irritate me to the nth degree. They stupidly overload their packs while they are either physically incapable of carrying their load long distances (based on their obvious visual status) or plan for paranoid Trump-induced scenarios of "Civil Unrest" and umpteen imaginary foes of... *insert any kind here* . I personally just want practical information based on the best...worst...expected scenarios that can take place. Not all the twisted hysterical bullshite.
I still literally drive by houses in my neighborhood with flags that have ignorant Trump 2024 statements flying with extreme pride. It's truly mindboggling. I say this as a (trying to be sensible) center right person. I switched from Democrat to Republican for a time, but when the MAGAs came on scene I was *OUT* . I was married to one of those as well. Not the place to be.
Anyway, I look forward to your upcoming content. I am redoing my GHB for the 3rd time this year with winter and summer variations. I am currently in Michigan, USA and am exploring becoming a park ranger here. I have been working in more of a support role thus far, but I just love being outdoors and helping. We will see how this plays out in time. I love the inside info I'm privy to.
      Thanks again!

As a survivor of multiple natural disasters and a trucker who’s been stranded in several lethal snowstorms, I can tell you that disasters come in two forms: those you hunker down for and those you evacuate from.
Preparing to live without power and running water should be your first priority. After that, prepare a bag that enables you to evacuate before the rush clogs up the roads.
If you’re preparing to hike and live off the land and fight wars in your neighborhood, you’re just a Walking Dead LARPer.

Just putting together my very personal and appropriate bag. My idea is that it will be an extension of my EDC, so I will already have a few useful items like a small power bank and cable to charge my phone for example . I’m normally only about 10 miles max from home. I just want to get back quickly. No knife, I’m in uk, and have no training in self defence (older female)., I have multi tool in EDC. Will include weather appropriate clothing & footwear, high viz item so I can be seen on narrow lanes, torch, water and small snacks. Additional First aid items

I would add a large flat tip screw driver that can double as a pry bar. Maybe a small hammer some good duct tape and 3-4 feet of 20 gauge wire and a couple of 2 -3 inch hose clamps I wear pants with cargo pockets which I carry a lot of things one leg has a extra big 42 by 42 inch bandanna 25 feet of paracord and 10 feet of #36 tarred bankline and a ferro rod in the other cargo pocket I have a 5 by 7 foot sil nylon tarp and a large heavyweight contractor’s garbage bag and a tourniquet. In my front pocket is a victorinox huntsman Swiss army knife and a bic lighter. And my marbles match safe and matches I always wear my mora Eldris knife and a very good emergency whistle I always have tinder in the form of petroleum jelly impregnated cotton balls in one of my pockets and some birch bark in a pocket I have most things I need right on my person with my multi tool on my belt. My pack holds everything else as far as some food and water a warm wool anorak and a poncho and poncho liner plus a small first aid kit. Plus I have enough outdoor knowledge that I could survive for a good long time

I will never understand get home bags. First thing you should sketch out the situation you could be in. How many kilometers do you need to cover to reach home? Living in a city, the most important prep is cash, to fuel my own car or to get a taxi to take me as close to home as possible. I can ride the public transport "for free". If I need to walk, I only need a bottle of water and knowing my way. I have a very old, tiny book map, but usually I know my way without. A neck knife, if you feel unsafe, but it is more of a psychological tool, because if you use it, the police will not take you home. Maybe you need something small giving fast energy, like pure fruit sugar, the fastest energy possible. Even walking, I will reach my home within a few hours from the other side of the city. My go home bag: cash, water, sugar. I always naturally take those things with me, but in a real emergency I need none of it. All I need is having my keys, because there is no way to get into my place without keys. Oh, a flashlight. There is one attached to my keys. If all lights went out, I would not use it on the street. The dark is my friend, because it hides me from other humans. Even when the lights work, I like to go where the light does not reach. You can see well enough in the dark to find your way. Darkness is safety. But try finding a modern key hole in the dark with your key. And no, I do not need my phone. I can nicely ask other people to help me call a taxi. I mostly leave my phone behind at home in everyday life. I have no small children to take care of, in case a phone would be of any use then. So, I need my keys. Done. Ah, I have a small Victorinox knife on my keys too. Nice to have to clean your fingernails. Clean fingernails are a must at all times. But I also lived in the far out countryside, surrounded by forest, not even close to other houses. I lived the walking kilometers with zero preparation already as kid with no problem. There are people who do not even have a driving licence, with no public transport around. Those who drive meet empty streets. And finally, I can hold my key stuff, whatever I want to use, ready to fight while I walk. Also, if you are worried about cold and kids, heat packs! Many heat packs! But people usually do not freeze while walking. Also, if a band aid is enough, you do not need it. Nothing is needed for a few hours. And you have a belt to use as tourniquet. Do you expect to be in the forest for days with your kids on the way home? You would not stay on the street and stop a bypassing car to beg for a ride, maybe pay them for it? Also, pepper spray might be useful against humans and animals, but also not reliably.

The Bug-Out bag is for those times when a mob of looters are coming down the street busting windows robbing and setting fire to every house they come to and the screams of the victims three doors down foolishly exchanging their lives for materialistic possessions becomes crystal clear with all roadways and exits being completely blocked by the marauding foot bound zombies armed with clubs bricks sticks and rocks and any blunt force weapon they can snatch up when you notice there's one close enough to see the bloodshot eyes and vibrating uvula of the yelling blood thirsty maniac headed your direction standing near your car knowing there's no chance of driving through the blockaded streets filled with mayhem and carnage and now is the perfect time to sling your Bug-Out bag onto your back, pull up your mask, and raise your fists in the air and begin mumbling sounds similar to whatever the obscene crowd is chanting to try and blend in enough to make it safely away from the nightmarish insanity and begin heading towards a nice quiet spot in the woods some place where you can Bug-Out!

You can’t call that a GHB: you don’t have nearly enough useless crap in your bag, it doesn’t weigh 30 kgs, there’s no tacticool gadgets, minimum of 3 knives, an axe AND a saw, or enough weaponry to invade a small country. Also it’s not a proper review because you didn’t use any of the following words or phrases: “two is one, one is none”, “it doesn’t weigh much so why not pack it”, “redundancy”, “night vision”, “stainless steel so you can boil water”, “a fresnel lens to start a fire”. “Trauma kit and needle decompression”. You almost got a bonus point for the tourniquet but as you only had one you failed and there was nothing in your bag that was brand new, still in the wrapper and obviously never actually used. Seriously you need to do better. 😂
