Every person thinking about buying an RV needs to watch this video. After 25 yrs rving I verify that everything you said was true. Warranties are more trouble than they're worth, more accessories means more stuff to break, Rv's are made by the mfg just making it up as they build, and if you think your RV does not have something that needs fixing it just means you haven't been paying attention.
We had an old Coachmen motorhome from the late 60's and that thing was amazing. Nothing ever broke. Windows didn't fall off. We camped out in it in the driveway and took it all over the country. We took it to the lake with our boat and had mega camp outs with family and friends. Now all RV's are junk.
We purchased our first travel trailer from a family owned RV dealer in CT (All RV). They had been and still are in business since 1977. There was absolutely no pressure to buy, they took us through a bunch of RVs in our price range, spent three hours leading us through a pre-deliver inspection when we came to pick it up, had me do the hookup of the RV to my truck from start to finish and then took me on a half hour ride (I drove) to give me instruction on how to tow a TT since this was my first time towing anything and I was a little apprehensive. A few months later when I had a warrant issue (drain pipe in shower broke and running lights stopped working due to a short somewhere in the circuit) they worked with KZ to get approval to have the work done at an RV repair shop 15 minutes from my house instead of having to drive 6 hours to and from CT (would have been 12 hours total to deliver it and then pick it up) to have the work done. This wasn't for a $100K RV but a 22 foot $15K TG. It was only afterwards that I found out this type of customer service in the RV industry is NOT the norm even for $800K class A motorhomes.
On point. I’ve got a plain RV and very few memberships. I avoid most RV campgrounds except for one. 😊 The rest of the time I prefer boondocking and am prepared to do so. I also handle most repairs and installs myself.
I totally agree about extended warranties. I actually enjoy learning about fixing our RV and doing it myself. I am always doing something to ours to customize it the way we like it. Great video. Thank you guys for always telling us the truth.
I totally appreciate you two. I have watched since the beginning of your channel. I have watched the positive changes in your life, and your beautiful child is thriving. It's a breath of fresh air to hear the truth. Good or bad. God is good !! Bless you !
Good job you two . Well let’s see we’ve been full time RVers for 3 years . I have replaced every screw on every cabinet door, one microwave, one converter one shower drain, one side window, one screen, one hood light switch , one GFI outlet , one gear pack for slide out , one hinge for hot water heater door . It’s always something. So glad I was in the automotive mechanic industry for 38 years . I have saved thousands on DIY . I generally carry just enough tools to get things done . See you guys in 2 weeks .
I think I was blessed when I purchased my trailer right before the pandemic. I dont believe in luck. I researched for 2 years before I purchased. The dealer has been awesome on all fronts. Great service, prices, honesty, timeliness, and friendly. My unit has needed minimal repairs, I am diligent in maintenance. I must give a shout-out to Apache Village in St. Louis County, its a family owned business who service what they sell. I miss y'all, been having a rough year health wise, but things are looking up. God bless 🙏🇺🇸👨👩👧 (This is Jody C. BTW)
First, you guys are adorable! I wish I knew about the wholesale warranty idea. My sweet little gal has been in the service department since April. I was told it would be 2-3 weeks. I get to pick her up Saturday. The service manager “Ms Bell we are going to go ahead and put your camper in rotation and get this done and over with” with an attitude in which I called her out on. I have called them every single week. I finally got her to explain to me why I kept getting jumped over; their new sales and make readies are priority and I told her it should also be about return customers too. Told her my sis was looking but because of how they were treating me, she went elsewhere and purchased. Honestly it was about 5 warranty items that I probably could have done myself. Ugh! Keep telling it like it is, thank you!
@@Hundert1 I teach people to restore old vintage trailers. But the idea is all the same. I teach on line and have students from all over the world. I worked as an RV tech for a while in my younger years. Again, nothing has really changed other than the materials trailers are made of.
that goes for almost everything... DIY to get the job done right and the way you want it to be. And you SAVE a bunch of money and you learn new things.
I followed you guys since 2020 and I've learned alot about RVing. I've also seen the transformation of the channel and thank you for standing with the truth. You guys are sincere people, much love ❤🙏
You two are amazing! Agree to everything you both said on this video. My hubby and I almost spent $200k on a new Bounder with all the bells and whistles. But was being pushed to get all these warranties and pushing the payments to more than our mortgage payment. Needless to say it didn’t pan out and we bought a used 2006 Monaco. Thank the Lord that my hubby is very resourceful and has done most of the repairs without a repair shop. Amen to your statement that ‘your RV will breakdown’. Keep it going you two! Much love! 😊
Truth! Outside of the RV itself (which could be junk, so engage an inspector, new or used!) if it's a service they offer, almost guaranteed to be crap! The more expensive the "warranty", the more convoluted and mercurial the language that gets them out of having to pay! "Oh, sorry sir or ma'am, you bought it on a Thursday, we only cover RV's that were bought on a Wednesday!"
I have literally lived in my 30 foot grand design fifth wheel for the past three years at different campgrounds I bought this thing used for 25,000 great buy and it’s held up wonderful it’s a 2019. can’t say I didn’t get my use out of it. I’m a contract engineer, single by myself and it works out great I can move wherever I need to whenever I need to I love it
At 78 I can’t wait to enjoy ‘extended travel’ but we are going to convert a cargo van, very simply! We can fit in more places, easier to drive and not nearly as much to break! We used to think we wanted a smaller RV but we have learned from you guys AND a multitude of others. They ain’t what they used to be! We are so thankful we learned this BEFORE putting all that money into an RV! Thanks Guys, you are such a VALUABLE resource to your community! 🙏 ❤️

Exactly !!! You can't trust dealerships and you can save yourself thousands knowing how to do repairs yourself. Preventative maintenance is the most important ! Camping world is the worst IMHO. I've had many clients pay for inspections at CW and CW told them to pound sand on fixing the issues ! All RV inspectors are not created equal either ! Do your research and ask a lot of questions !!! Make sure they are NRVIA certified. If a dealership says you don't need a 3rd party inspection, ask them for documentation and date stamped photos of everything that they found wrong on their "PDI" before you sign anything ! Not going to happen !! The dealership is not going to give you a report that could be used against them or the manufacturer when things go downhill !! The people doing these so-called PDIs are not techs in most cases. They are entry level employees that do a little bit of everything. One day they might be cleaning toilets and the next doing a PDI on your RV. Thanks for trying to educate folks ! Good video...

Thank you for this info; blew my mind! I think Escapees had really gone done hill and now with a new management entity with different missions, hopefully a new opportunity for a great company to help RVers.
This was a good video. You touched on so many points of interest, each of which is a candidate for a video of its own. Personally, I'd appreciate a drill-down on the Harvest Host and Escapee programs. Nice job you two!

The auto industry has demonstrated that complicated products can not be fixed and ultimately plays a major role in exhausting purchasers and the demise of the industry as a whole. Your views are insightful and confirm the KISS program of keeping simply and rarely seeing a person fail who thoroughly follows that path.
So true, in that the RVer just pays pays pays...saw on a forum yesterday, a fellow pulling his 5th wheel, had a DEF sensor go on him, and the quote was close to $1,400. for the repair! Of course depending on the RV, one of SO many things can go, at any time, so yes, you have to be able to do some repairs on your own, as when you call your dealer, it may sit on the lot for months before they get to you!
" When it's not broke folks, don't fix it!" I get exactly what you mean about the top shark companies and what not. When we bought ours the dealership pulled a part recall on a power plug (exterior) When they deliver it we didn't check it out until the next day and then realized they removed our shower hardware and never sent us anything regarding it's removal, no explanation what so ever. Yet claimed it happened during "processing." Future ref when RV shopping take photos and videos of every item on that rv.
The great memories are when the RV breaks down and the what you have to do to get it back on the road. Of course the memories become great after it all done, not so much fun when you are going through it.
You are Exactly Correct about all of the hassles ! Remember the KISS principle Keep It Simple Stupid !!!! Just like Boats and Airplanes , RVs are a Cash Sink ! I still Love all of the Awesome Experiences I've had ! Keep up Your Good Work ! God Bless !
We pass on all warranties ON EVERYTHING in life No fighting warranty fine print. If it breaks, deal with it and move on. As we view it, we are self insured and money ahead.
you are correct that warranty work doesn't pay as good , but in reality it seldom pays at all and if it does it's hard to get approved, hard to get and harder to get paid from the warranty company.
Great videos with Righteous Information in the corrupt RV industry!!! No more quality control across the board.. Quantity not quality.. 1-3 month wait to get your RV diagnosed after leaving it for 1-2 weeks then usually have to get approval say from Winnebago etc and after that make another appt for repair. Ok Rv back to repair shop for a few weeks. Etc Etc And standards nor quality control are not like automotive industry The crap they get away with is unbelievable.
I 100% appreciate your honesty and love that you share your opinions on it. I would caution you against using the term professional opinion. You have a 1st amendment right to speak your mind, however the 1st amendment only protects the government from going after you. You are providing feedback on your massive platform that you’ve monetized and they could make your lives H E Double hockey sticks through endless defamation litigation. Love yalls channel
I had nominated my macerator toilets as most likely to fail first in my RV ownership. After 8 years I haven't had a single issue. Oh, they can fail but they're now way down on my list of things to worry about.
Don’t get me going on the RV tech thing. Took mine to camping world in Pensacola and paid over $200/hr for labor only to see the guy you tubing how to work on my Roadtrek. She’s an oldie but Goldie and better made than many new ones on the road!!!
If you are not mechanically inclined, owning a motorhome is going to be expensive. Very few good RV Techs. James at AZ Experts and Shelburn RV and Affordable RV are the exception.
I'm not only a nomad, I'm a musician, an MCMF, and I'm in need of a woman of sense who might not use baptizing as a chance to drown a Recovering Catholic discussing Carpentry and the Christianity as Dogmatized and Practiced modernity with an Undercover Primitive Baptist (Macedonia). Nothing but Love.
Truth is warranty work does indeed Payless then customer paid repairs. It is the same in all industries. Mfgs. Limit chargeable repairs to exact hours on eac warranty repair. Where as with the retail customers they can pad the bill for more on repair time covering tech mistakes installing wrong parts etc. there are good repair facilities out there . The important j thing to remember is everyone can have a off day. If you have a good repair shop don’t give up on them immediately. You could be cutting off your own nose to despite your face. Independent repair shops can be just as bad or good as the facilities that sell and repair Rv, cars, motorcycles, etc.
You 2 are cool! Thank u for this information. I live out of a minivan on the road, I think I'll just stick with this and skip these overpriced, badly built smaller trailers. I'm guessing they may have issues just like the RVs.
We have a Grand Design, we don't get out much because hubby works a LOT! But every time we try? The damn thing breaks in some fashion...it's expensive to maintain an RV when you don't have time to fix it yourself :(
@@duchess0816 That's great! I hope you continue to have no issues, it's not cheap to fix. Ours is a 2021 Reflection. They have had to send us 2 main brains for it now, the bed slide has had to be replaces a few times, plumbing issues, you name it. Sad thing about it is that we got it new in 2020. But! It's still an optional roof over our heads if bad goes to worse.
@@tammyp2782 we understand completely, we had a 2017 Sabre, it was the biggest lemon 🍋 from day one. You name it happened. Hope you get things taken care of and can enjoy it.
Some RV builders, will cancel your warranty. If you use your RV too much. Using those apps. Sometimes gives them enough evidence to void your warranty. You have to look at everything from all angles.
New Rvs are so low quality. You're better off finding an old RV in the south or southwest away from the rust belt with low miles. You're 100% right also about keeping it simple. I have a 2017 A Liner. It's perfect for a single traveler like myself. So many RV companies sell the dream and for some it becomes a nightmare.
Just think how many thousands of RVs these companies could have sold but potential buyers walked away and did without or rented one because of these mechanical failures. I always rented them myself and never had issues on the road.
I met someone who bought a tiffin (1st year under thor) and they said if they knew then what they know now they would not have bought it (they had 2/3 other tiffins prior) thor really did ruin tiffins good name!!!
I'm not an RV'er nor do I want to be one. Yes, at one time it did cross my mind. This video for some reason, I enjoyed it. Maybe there's some subliminal "Wack-a-doo" lol attached to it lo, but it was engaging.
"We'll see you in the next video." Let the record reflect John and Mercedes are NOT suicidal. If they go missing after this video we know who the likely suspects are. The oligarchs don't take too kindly to it! Be safe Odd Squad and keep the truth bombs coming...we got your six!
Remember back in 2020, 2021 & 2022, the RV Manufactures were taking parts from every RV they could take to make one good one. I will never buy any RV made between 2020 and 2022.
Thanks for all of the great insight. Been considering buying a RV or travel van, but I think I will pass for awhile. I wonder if Mr. Buffett will unload from the struggling RV industry. Especially since he just sold a ton of Apple stock as well as $5B of BoA.

My def sensor went in my GMC and it cost me $2200
" When it's not broke folks, don't fix it!" I get exactly what you mean about the top shark companies and what not.
Great words of wisdom, like always!
Thank you for tuning in
Good info for all Rv'ers
Glad it was helpful!
The great memories are when the RV breaks down and the what you have to do to get it back on the road. Of course the memories become great after it all done, not so much fun when you are going through it.
@@larryreynolds007 Sooo true
You are Exactly Correct about all of the hassles ! Remember the KISS principle Keep It Simple Stupid !!!! Just like Boats and Airplanes , RVs are a Cash Sink ! I still Love all of the Awesome Experiences I've had ! Keep up Your Good Work ! God Bless !
Exactly! God Bless you as well🙏❤️
We pass on all warranties ON EVERYTHING in life No fighting warranty fine print. If it breaks, deal with it and move on. As we view it, we are self insured and money ahead.
@@patmoloney8984 Very Smart! 😀👍
you are correct that warranty work doesn't pay as good , but in reality it seldom pays at all and if it does it's hard to get approved, hard to get and harder to get paid from the warranty company.
First time I agree you both of you.
Yay
Guess I will keep my cabin in the woods!
Certainly!🇺🇸
Great videos with Righteous Information in the corrupt RV industry!!!
No more quality control across the board.. Quantity not quality..
1-3 month wait to get your RV diagnosed after leaving it for 1-2 weeks then usually have to get approval say from Winnebago etc and after that make another appt for repair. Ok Rv back to repair shop for a few weeks.
Etc
Etc
And standards nor quality control are not like automotive industry
The crap they get away with is unbelievable.
Truth 👍
I agree don't buy extended warranties, put the money in a Money Market account, a high Savings account and CDs.
Exactly
@@RVOddCouple If you need any more investment advice please don’t hesitate to reach out! I manage some of my Family and friends retirement plans.
As I’ve said before. If I need to hear the Truth. I come looking for you Two. Not kidding. Thanks
Happy to help when we can
I own a class c motor home and my children use it as much as me they do take care of it so we really do get our investment put to use!
Awesome!
Damn I’m glad I ran into this before I actually started I would like to speak to you guys in person on this topic
I 100% appreciate your honesty and love that you share your opinions on it. I would caution you against using the term professional opinion.
You have a 1st amendment right to speak your mind, however the 1st amendment only protects the government from going after you.
These monopoly’s and mentioning specific companies could come back to bite you in a defamation suit. You are providing feedback on your massive platform that you’ve monetized and they could make your lives H E Double hockey sticks through endless defamation litigation.
Love yalls channel
Thank you 😊
I had nominated my macerator toilets as most likely to fail first in my RV ownership. After 8 years I haven't had a single issue. Oh, they can fail but they're now way down on my list of things to worry about.
@@BonFShaw that’s awesome! Congratulations
We could get along. God bless you both
Godless you as well
Don’t get me going on the RV tech thing.
Just like any other profession, about 5% are any good
I'm not only a nomad, I'm a musician, an MCMF, and I'm in need of a woman of sense who might not use baptizing as a chance to drown a Recovering Catholic discussing Carpentry and the Christianity as Dogmatized and Practiced modernity with an Undercover Primitive Baptist (Macedonia).
We all have our own sweet spot when it comes to having the perfect home on the road😀
It's ok if the RV industry hates you...I like you guys 😉 I live in Aurora...I would love to shake your hands one day.
Mercedes grew up in Aurora
@RVOddCouple Yep...knew that...that's why I mentioned it. 🙂
I always say. I’m not rv’ing unless I’m fixing something!
We have a Grand Design, we don't get out much because hubby works a LOT! But every time we try? The damn thing breaks in some fashion...it's expensive to maintain an RV when you don't have time to fix it yourself :(
I’m so sorry to hear that!
Sorry to hear that, we have a 2022 Reflection, so far so good.
Yes! Keep your head on a swivel
I love old Rigs. Stay away from brand new
Just think how many thousands of RVs these companies could have sold but potential buyers walked away and did without or rented one because of these mechanical failures. I always rented them myself and never had issues on the road.
Good idea to rent
I met someone who bought a tiffin (1st year under thor) and they said if they knew then what they know now they would not have bought it (they had 2/3 other tiffins prior) thor really did ruin tiffins good name!!!
I'm not an RV'er nor do I want to be one. Yes, at one time it did cross my mind. This video for some reason, I enjoyed it. Maybe there's some subliminal "Wack-a-doo" lol attached to it lo, but it was engaging.
No subliminal message. We’re not very good at TH-cam
Definitely look before you leap. It's a mess out there it looks like.
Well said!
Great points ya’ll. I wonder what will happen to the RV industry if we have a real corrective recession in our economy in the near future?
"We'll see you in the next video." Let the record reflect John and Mercedes are NOT suicidal. If they go missing after this video we know who the likely suspects are. The oligarchs don't take too kindly to it! Be safe Odd Squad and keep the truth bombs coming...we got your six!
😂🤣😂🤣 This is TRUE!
Cool
Thank you Jerry
Foxestails my stepdad called them He was talking about autos but pertains to much even rvs Bunch of extra fancy tech that can turn into moneypit
Remember back in 2020, 2021 & 2022, the RV Manufactures were taking parts from every RV they could take to make one good one. I will never buy any RV made between 2020 and 2022.
Good idea!
Thanks for all of the great insight. Been considering buying a RV or travel van, but I think I will pass for awhile. I wonder if Mr. Buffett will unload from the struggling RV industry. Especially since he just sold a ton of Apple stock as well as $5B of BoA.
Tow yota😂😂 shots fired!
🤣😂🤣
My ugly; Dometic Brisk Air ACs. The stubby short ones. Never buy an RV with one of those. I had a boneyard of fan motors for those POS units.
