    It's looking amazing.I think it's great that you reuse the plastic sheets . The plots look enormous now 👌 can't wait to see what you plant.

    Hi Emma I hope your Dave tells you how proud he is of you and what you have achieved on your plot it looks amazing but I think you need a seating area to look over the beds when it all starts to grow could you start a Emma fund to help you out with the seeds and plants plus help to get you a few more tools that you will need plus make the pond larger the birds could come and drink and bath

    Do you have a seating area on your plot? I wonder if that area under the tree, surrounded by cornflowers and sweet peas, overlooking the wildlife patch would be a nice spot to sit and chill....😊

    Hi Emma. I have been watching your channel since you started and I must say, I am so amazed by you. I am 66 years old and grew up in the vegetable garden with my dad. I have always grown food and also love other plants -- just about all plants. But I have always had one problem. I look out at a big job that needs to be done and I become so overwhelmed that I just go back inside and say it can't be done, or I can't ever get that done. You, on the other hand, tackle a big job a little bit at a time and have accomplished all that in just 4 months! I went back and looked at the first video of your new allotment after watching this one. Oh my goodness! You have done all that by yourself with basically a shovel, a rake, and a pair of shears. I am so inspired by you. I am going to approach my garden in a whole different light this year! And I will keep watching your videos. You go girl!

    It's amazing how much you have achieved in the winter months from taking over an abandoned plot to what you have now,, well done!!
    I think if you invest in a digging fork you would be able to tackle the roots much easier than using a spade that tends to chop through the root systems

    Hi Emma, I think you shouldn’t put beds in your new area. You have tripled in size this year and you are already going to have so much more work to do in spring. Your back bit would make a perfect play area, maybe a swing and few things for the kids and a table and chairs for you to rest, and maybe enjoy a freshly picked salad! If the kids can help design this area for themselves, they maybe more inclined to come down more in the spring and help, and as a fellow allotmenteer, I know how valuable that is! You’re doing a great job Emma, is look forward to your videos. Keep being yourself, you’re a fantastic ray of sunshine ❤

    that kind of plastic membrane lasts for many years I wouldn't worry much about definitely the right choice to reuse it, the non permeable ground sheets I see on allotments are much worse they break down in a couple of years and disitinegrate into the soil, you've really worked wonders on that new plot

    I think it's amazing that your reusing the plastic. Better than just chucking it in landfill.
    Please could you cover your water butts though. My sister had an awful experience last year. A Wood Pigeon drowned in hers 😞 I had gone for a drink or maybe a cool off and couldn't get back out. It was so upsetting for her and obviously the poor bird didn't make it. Wouldn't want you to have that happen in your wildlife area 🥰🥰

    Love your vlogs Emma, have you thought about mushrooms for the log pile at the back? You could buy one innoculated log to lay on top of the pile or a bag of grain spore to cumble into the cracks & it could collonise the whole pile & start breaking everything down. Food & function 😁 I will be planning an area for mushrooms next year 🤞🏻

    You've reached the end of all that digging!!!! You should feel so blimin proud Emma!
    What will you plant in that back part apart from the planned cornflowers? Will they be your spud spaces? Are you going to try spuds this year at all?
    You've got three beds, you could do your first earlies, second earlies and your main crops in them. They get so much sun in that bit as you noted and that'll increase as the year goes on. A thought to ponder.

    I like your three beds for teepee, corn and salad area and then along the back flowers. ❤ It is looking great. Remember you don't have to plant in all your beds at once. You could keep some open to compost and settle in or put a green crop like Buckwheat to enrich the soil and when it flowers in autumn the bees love it

    Another great video, thanks Emma. I've finally been offered a half plot after waiting on the allotment list for almost 3 years and will be viewing it on Saturday. I'm so excited but also incredibly daunted by the fact I'll be taking it on by myself and without the benefit of a car to haul things to and from the site. Emma this is such amazing progress, I reckon a good idea for the back of your plot would be to dedicate the one square bed that you can see through the pumpkin archway entirely to your wildflowers, would make a really good viewpoint when looking from the front of the plot and through the archway to see all that colour, then agree with other commenters who have suggested scrambling clematis and rambling roses along the pile at the very back

  • @MsArtistwannabe
    @MsArtistwannabe 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    That’s true for me most of the time. Jobs always take longer than I think. Currently repositioning three raised beds. Turns out it was way easier than I thought it would be. At least taking the biggest one apart and reassembling it was. What’s hard is shifting the soil over. It’s heavy because it’s quite wet from the rains and I mixed a lot of my Adobe soil into the compost when I set them up. You’re making great progress on your allotment.

  • @craigorchard3866
    @craigorchard3866 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Emma have you thought about 2 long beds along the back with path down the centre to get to the back bad or one long bed with 2 long beds Infront with maybe a path in the centre from the pumpkin archi don't think 3 or 4 beds is a good idea with tiny little paths make 2 better size beds be much more useful

    Personally would have found the boundaries, worked out how much room, write a list of what, want to grow fruit included, plus what perennial vegetables as well, then do a nine year planting plan for all the areas. This will keep you on track. As some fruit trees take time to produce fruit.
