    Laz made it simple and plain to understand but as an Afro-Latino myself, I find that for some reason many people, especially many Latinos, cannot fix their heads to understand the simple truth that just like there are Black Americans, Black Jamaicans, Black Brazilians, Black British, etc in the African diaspora there are also Black Dominicans, Black Cubans, Black Mexicans, Black Colombians, etc that are in the African diaspora. Hence terms like Afro/African American and Afro-Latino. The story of Africa and of the African diaspora across the globe is the story of one big family that is divided and sometimes does not know or understand how they are even related. We are all one people and one family but we have been brutally displaced across the globe and we have become long lost relatives as a result. We all need to tie ourselves back to our roots so that we know and understand our complete history (not just our relatively short history that is specific only to where we have been displaced ) so we can begin to heal the division and feuding that has no rightful place in the relationship of our global family.
    "The diaspora represents strength in numbers" and that is what "they" fear. Deep down they know that a "Giant" can't slumber forever".
    Kind of related side note: Also; don't let it escape you that not all Latinos are Afro-Latinos. Some Latinos are more indigenous American and some are pretty much white. And some Latinos are on some serious Pecola Lovebreed ish because in their delusion, they swear that they are white when they definitely are not... But the majority of Latinos are people of color.

    • @JD-ny3vz
      @JD-ny3vz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a small minority and not ingrained in the culture. Latin America like the US was built on slavery and anti blackness is deeply rooted in Latin American culture. The Spanish created a caste system with people of African descent at the bottom, there was a blanqueamiento movement on Latin America to whiten the populations in most countries.
      Is there some xenophobia in African American communities yea there is but it's not as deeply rooted and widespread as the racism in Latin communities. It's not even close racism is one of the building blocks of the Latin community remember just like the US, Latin America and the Caribbean are also built on the enslavement of Africans and the displacement murder and colonialization of the indigenous. All countries in the western hemisphere is based on racism.

      @Sara Mill The hairstyle first popularized in the 1960s and 70s called an afro is called that because it commonly see among African-Americans. At the height of the popularity of the hairstyle, other people with different ethnicities and naturally curly hair joined in. The home permanent allowed people with otherwise very straight hair to join in. Even Howard Stern, who has a curly head of hair, joked that he had a Jew-fro. This is in line with the way Stern would make fun of his own appearance.

      Blanqueamiento
      "{Peter Wade argues that blanqueamiento is a historical process that can be linked to NATIONALISM. When thinking about nationalism, the ideologies behind it stem from national identity, which according to Wade is "a construction of the past and the future",[5] where the past is understood as being more traditional and backwards. For example, past demographics of Puerto Rico were heavily black and Indian-influenced because the country partook in the slave trade and was simultaneously home to many indigenous groups. Therefore, understanding blanqueamiento as it relates to modernization, modernization is then understood as a guidance in the direction AWAY FROM BLACK and indigenous roots. Modernization then hap pened as described by Wade as "the increasing integration of blacks and Indians into modern society, where they will mix in and eventually disappear, taking their primitive culture with them".[5] This kind of implementation of blanqueamiento takes place in a societies that have historically always been led by 'WHITE' people whose guidance would carry "the country away from its past, which began in Indianness and slavery"[5] with hopes of promoting the intermixing of bodies to develop a predominantly white-skinned society."

    We’re forgetting one important thing that we’re mixed specially in Latin America the mixture started 450 years ago for example the first Dominican black saint born in Lima Peru 1575 his mother was an African slave from Panamá and his father Spaniard, I’m curious how will show Obamas DNA his mother was white and his father from Africa 50/50? So what it’s his ethnicity.

      There are still people who are racially majority black or majority white or majority indigenous . I understand no body is “racially pure” but to say that all Latinos are just mixed is also be problematic. When you watch novelas or just Hispanic media in general all you see is white passing Latinos. If everyone is mixed why is there still discrimination?
