    It's so nice to see a person that actually researched the subject, unlike few videos I've seen where people would complain of poor quality because the "crown is wobbly", or wouldn't have a clue why the watch is part of the horological history and shows a different approach to watchmaking. Thank you!

    This is exactly what got me into watches. The fact that a lot of watches have each their own history is what makes it nice to wear on the wrist. Cool comparison with the blackbird.

    A Vostok will never over-promise and under-deliver. It’s easily one of the best values offered in the business.

    I love the Russian philosophy of "if it ain't broke don't try and fix it" This design works so why change the design, Same way of thinking as with Soyuz! Loved the video review so much I have just jumped on Amazon and ordered one :-)

    I just love these watches, especially the 710 and 420 case styles. They are so easy to modify. As with yours a simple brush finish on the case and bezel really elevate the look. I now have 8 in my collection which have had their bezels changed and strapped on nato's. They look great.

    I had been eyeing this watch for a long time but could not make up my mind. I was not convinced about it, I thought that being Russian it would not be any good. After watching several videos I decided to give it a try. I don’t know how to explain it, but I’ve been wearing it for a week now and I can’t stop looking at it or take it off. I own several Orient, Seiko, Phoibos, Casio, and others, and I don’t know what it is about this watch that I like so much. I put it on a Strapcode Hexad bracelet and it looks fantastic. And to top it off I’ve been monitoring it since I synchronized it with my iPhone and it is only 1 minute behind in 5 days!!! Unbelievable. I love this watch.

      Could not agree more. Fantastic value for money. I have regulated all of mine and they stay within + or - 7 seconds a day. Great watches, a true testament to Russian engineering.

    This is by far the best video on Wostok watches, it is very clear and you know the subject very well. I have been using an amphibia 420 case as my daily beater and I can tell you it has gone through alot, diving, caving, mountain biking, abseiling and hiking and it just keeps on ticking, I don't think any other watch will replace my vostok as my daily wearer. Thanks :)

    Vostok was not actually the first to use that caseback securing design. I'm not sure who was, but I have a Bulova from 1955 that uses the same design and I've seen other Bulovas of the era that use it as well. Additional fun fact: SR 71 Blackbird Pilots wore Bulova Accutrons for their accuracy and ability to withstand forces better than a traditional watch. Sorry, huge Bulova fan here, lol!

    The color of the dial is beautiful when you see it in person, it is not blue or green, I can look at that watch all day long, the polished case looks great actually, I'll do the same to my watch, I had a lot of different Vostok watches on my hands but this one is probably my favorite, for less than 100$us you get a lot of value.

    When the crown is screwed in it disconnects the winding stem from the movement to prevent damage to the stem or the movement.

    Unfortunately, they are no longer just $50.00. That said, for a 200m wr watch the value is still there. Especially if you look at some of the prices of the new Seiko5 offerings. Your brushed finish video was also excellent and will be my first mod along with taking the bling off the hair puller bracelet.

    • @WatchGeek
      @WatchGeek  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I have a Sturmanskie incoming so mu love affair with Russian watches is just beginning 😄
      My watchmaker says he has more respect for Russian brands that do everything by themselves than many Swiss brands that just outsource production

    • @soft-Ordnung
      @soft-Ordnung 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Watch Geek Well, I'd say the Soviets were making everything by themselves. Now our watch industry is cutting corners everywhere they can, so they produce a lot of parts in China. There're even Chinese made fakes of Vostoks and Raketas on sale here.

    • @WatchGeek
      @WatchGeek  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's the sad reality of our world.
      I have nothing against outsourcing production as long as you are transparent about it. But when a producer claims they make everything but they don't, that's what pisses me off

    So if the plane was sealed in the sky and leaked on the ground. Does that mean that this watch will leak in the bath and seal deep down in the ocean? Ooh I do love the look of this watch and after all the reviews, articles, comparisons etc, I'm thinking this may be just the one I go for. hey, you wear your amphibia often, correct? have you ever had any problems with its movement?

    • @WatchGeek
      @WatchGeek  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nope, never. I thought I had when I noticed the seconds hand stopped a couple of times, but I realized it just jumps in front when you shake the wrist in a certain way and then gets caught up by the movement, which is the result of the shock protection system this movement has, so it's quite normal and doesn't affect the timekeeping

      @@WatchGeek Yes! I actually got my Amphibia by accident. I put in a low bid on an ebay auction, and was surprised to win. It isn't the most nice looking watch, but I find that I prefer to wear it to my seiko. You just don't have to worry about it, and there is something kind of relaxing about winding it. I actually don't even find the bracelet to be bad, it has yet to pull any hairs and I'm a pretty hairy guy.

    Great review! 👌🏻
    I recieved my 710059 yesterday, exactly the same apart from the bracelet! Question:
    when you handwind, how many winds before it fully loaded!!?? 18-20 winds?? It doesn’t stops.

    • @WatchGeek
      @WatchGeek  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Congrats on a new watch!!
      Automatics can't be wound all the way, or should I say, you can't reach an end where it stops, as it has a clutch that simply slips so you can still wind, but it doesn't do anything. Giving it a few winds or a few shakes is enough to start it and then just wear it normally and within a day it will be fully wound

    Hi buddy, I have one question: To change the bezel in this watch do I have to buy only the Bezel Insert or I have to buy separate bezel and bezel insert ?
    What's your wrist size buddy ?
    Just to check if it would suit me good!

    • @WatchGeek
      @WatchGeek  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My wrist is 6.7" and the bezel is a single piece, so the whole bezel is one piece, there is no insert

      @@WatchGeek Thanks buddy, the 710 case, the bezel is useless. So if I want to change it 'How should I search for it ?'
      I'm confused, would you help me?

    But that bezel is chrome plated brass. Why does it look like brushed steel after your mod? It should give a golden-brown look.

    • @WatchGeek
      @WatchGeek  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was a very gentle brushing, not deep at all, and also, I have learned recently that newer regular Amphibias, at least the 710 come with SS bezels, and since mine is pretty new it could be it's SS
