I didn't know that I had a Vostok amphibia. I'd bought it in Budapest back in the winter of 2001and after a couple of years of wearing it, I forgot it into a case. I didn't really know what kind of watch I had bought at that time. I had just bought it as a memento and I liked the KGB edition. I found it last year and after I wound it I found out that it was still working properly. 20 years after without any service!!!
I have buy it (scuba dude) immediatly when i learn than ALL CASE IS IN TRUE STEEL ! ( nickeled brass case is my taboo in watchemaking ).... no definitively ... lol cannot love a brass case watches for wear it.... i have komandarski watches but ALL NEW IN SHOWCASES.... of soviet area loool. I never wear it because if nickel layer is tired... yellow metal is vidible. Its for me worst things. I love keep all in perfect condition
I have many more expensive watches, but the Amphibia is my daily. With the right bezel it is gorgeous, i dont mind setting the date. I constantly use the bezel for timing tasks and the watch has survived a lot of punishment, like - 44 C weather and hard knocks while rafting. The lack of clicks means the bezel is ideal for timing things when you dont want to make noise, such as at work. And yes, it goes really well with a suit!
@@TopTierTicker i have the blue scuba dude, with a black bezel and leather strap its quite conservative. Not having a loud bezel is so useful when timing my presentations.
Thank's for the review I have 3 Vostok Amphibia for several years including a Scuba Dude and a Neptune No problems and so easy to regulate Originally they often have an advance of 10 to 14 seconds After regulation they are now (when worn) with an accuracy of 1 to 2 seconds / day For the delivery time it depends on where you live and which distributor you choose (there are several different online stores) Living in Europe .. a delay of one or two weeks is the standard
Think I'm going to look in to how to regulate these as I'm extremely interested in getting another! Thanks for watching, hopefully see you again in the future
I have many Vostoks, both Russian and Soviet, including the original model shown at 1.18, although mine has the writing in Cyrillic instead of English.
The major downside with acrylic is that if you are working with certain chemicals (methylated spirits and paint thinners) you can destroy that material very quickly. Now sensible people will wear gloves and take their watch off but, you might forget. I like the shape you picked, looks pretty awesome with that blue dial and that price point for an automatic is not bad. Yeah, so you don't have hacking, but you have a nice looking watch that doesn't need to be serviced for 10 years. I call that a win.
Thank you! Vostok - is the best! Respect from Russia! Thank you for learning the history of our legendary Vostok watch. Many interesting technical solutions are used in this watch (if you are interested, see my review in Russian). Sometimes the quality is not the best. But it mostly refers to the build quality. For example, before using in water, it is sometimes necessary to check that the back cover is fully screwed on. At this price, there is no other fully manufactured watch with its glorious history and original designs on the world market! Although, in my opinion, this is not the best dial design.
I have two of them a 710440 and a 110649. The bezel on the 110649 is perfect for me. But the one on the 710440 make the watch feel like a toy. I swapped it for pepsi. Now the watch feel more like a good diver watch. I swapped both bracelet for mesh. They are a lot more confortable. Both needed to be regulated and demagnetized on arrival. I must say the 110649 is a big watch. I'm fine with the size (being tall and big), but it's not the case model I would recommend for everyone.
Nice video and history, I have a couple and they are very good ,probably worst thing about them is can't stop looking at more of them and wanting them. Not bothered about the date as nowadays we all have smartphones, in fact don't need a watch.
I ordered the exact same blue sea captain dial one you wear from eBay. Then I realized this is the 'Bill Murray' dial from the movie. Will mod it with the wave shaped rubber band like it appears on the movie, but love your blue NATO strap too!
The bezel is engineered to lock in place the more pressure that's put on the watch. Also I manually brushed my watch and I repainted the bezel markers ( I have the same one as you) but yeah the bezel is that way for a reason.
I’ve found the main source of the thickness is the bubbled caseback to make room for the rotor. I’ve removed the rotor and swapped the caseback on mine with a flatter caseback from a non running vintage hand wound amphibia I had lying around. brings the thickness down to around 13mm and makes it wear a lot flatter and more comfortably. Just treat it like a normal hand winder, the no rotor noise is a plus.
I have the REEF model, which has the screwback case without the ring. It is their attempt at getting into the North American watch Marc with the North American type watch. It’s actually a beautiful watch with the sapphire at the 12 o’clock position on the bezel and the bezel has 120 clicks.
Excellent video my friend! I actually have an Amphibia and it works really well. Now im saving money to buy a komandirskie (here in Argentina these watches cost at least 120 usd, a bit expensive, but for me is worth)
A well presented and fair review of a great watch 👍 . I have five, all without date 😉. That case does make the thickness more noticeable, the 710 or 670/650 cases suit the automatic movements better. I have converted some to hand winding with a flat case back, it makes a big difference to a 420 👍
Thank you! Put a lot of hours in to making this one. What case is your favourite? Im looking to get another with a cushion style case but I can't decide!
Thanks for the vid. Used an Amphibia for 5 years. About a year ago the automatic started letting me down. The mechanical rewind has been tried to limited effect and as the winding does not tighten up as on the mechanical it is disconcerting. Left it with the watchman for a while but without opening up he could not ascertain a fault! Wondering if this is common issue with an easy fix (cleaning?). Thoughts would be appreciated.
The Vostok 170 #170647 was released to the market on 2022 I can't find my previous comment ☹️ I like that model because its brushed and so when i do scuba diving or snorkeling because as it won't shine the barracuda or sharks won't think it's a sardine or a fish so it's a safe watch to use in the sea 😊
You can turn the hands past midnight to change the date then back them up to before 8 o'clock and past midnight again to change the date again. Repeat until correct date. Not that onerous.
Unfortunately not, I picked this one up for £46 last year. Now you have to go for second hand/grey market sellers for an inflated price. Shame that this is the case.
now in 2023 I just bought a Scuba Dude, paid about 85. I'd sell if possible, basically it feels cheap, looks cheap and hard to wind and change the date. Just buy a rolex submariner...
And there’s a few of their women’s watches that are also very cool! And PRACTICAL. A far better choice by comparison to many of the western brands where the women’s watches are a cop out quartz and boring.
I own a 'scuba dude'... it still works and it keeps time, off 60 seconds per day... you're not going to miss any meetings but it's a bit less accurate than my Longines that costs 30 times more, but it works... I like Russian made stuff for that, it's rugged and lasting... as opposed to Chinese rubbish, I also have a seagull that broke after 1 year... so I prefer the Russian rugged manufacture techniques... I do hope they lose this Ukraine war and go back to doing their thing... same kind of goes for Lada Niva cars, it's a rugged car, it'll get you in and out of the forest... it'll last...

AWESOME.

Will it hold up to splashing around in the ocean for a few hours on vacation?
Lol yes
