- The plate went on the 1976 Harley-Davidson SS-175 today. The engine was cold when I started it. The list was short to get this ride going. The carburetor was clogged with something as the top end was weak. There was a spacer missing in the rear wheel and the left handlebar switch unit was damaged. While putting new rubber on I replaced all the wheel bearings and painted the rear hub and sprocket. I gave the tank a good bath as it had a little surface rust putting crud in the bowl. Nothing left to do but ride. Thanks to the seller Robert, key SS/SX part from Gary Daniels, Leslie at Moto Italia, Gary in Vermont (rides SX in AMA events) and Lancaster Aermarcchi for the help and information. My dad gave me one of these when I was 12. The freedom of being able to get on my bike and ride gave me independence and confidence. It changed my life and was the greatest gift of my life.
Cool... Very young age for this bike. You must have been tippy-toed if you were able to ride it. Mine wont' start at the moment. Traced it to the ignition switch. I will need to replace it as it will only start if I jump wire and bypass the switch. Old bikes.... :-) These SS are out there. Go get one and relive your youth. :-)
I had the 1976 SS125, your bike is nearly mint condition, beautiful in the red color, and the sound of it is spot on, thanks for upload -- happy riding!

Thanks Jorge! It’s always a fun ride. It’s sidelined at the moment. Ignition switch has gone wonky. I want to ride it! LOL
The 175/250 barking through the stock lafranconi has such a distinctive sound. No other two stroke sounds like it.

Love that sound my 2nd motorcycle of 70 until today, was an SXT-125 orange color, and almost the last one, an old lady passed a Stop sign, 1st degree cranial trauma, a lot of wires, screws and plates.
when the injection pumps wear the start to over oil so pre mixing is best at that point

I nearly bought an SX350 around 1980 [in the UK], I bet it would be rare now. I got a Laverda SF750 instead which was the same price of £695
Laverdas have always caught my eye.

Craig Monteforte Thanks Craig. Ya the SX have a different sound. Only rode the SS A few times early last year. Ignition switch has failed so I need to fix that soon as I miss riding it. Fun bikes.
Harley came out with some odd paint colors back in the 70s.
i have a 175 enduro i was told to use 32:1 mix racio with low grade mix oil (Yamalube) when not using oil pump
Have one just the same. Always temperamental to start.

We have a 125 SS in London UK, having difficultys in starting it, its got a Spark but seem to getting too much lube into cylinder. PS i buildt a RYCA too best best ever
SurreySpeedShopTV You can terminate the oil injection and go with straight mixed gas in the tank to test the oil pump theory. You like the Ryca CS-1 eh? Very cool to hear you built one. I still love riding it.
We got it going, Carb needing clean etc, I miss my RYCA wished had kept it

LOL could be true. A friend in high school bought a Yamaha RD400 when it came out in 76. Great bike. This SS 175 is fun too!
