  • Hello Language People! [DISCLAIMER at 1:07 - MAIN VIDEO at 2:10]
    This is a special video to wish you happy holidays!
    --- Can we really always say "the same thing" in other languages?
    In this video I'm showing you - with a bit of humour perhaps - how my way of expressing my feelings would change depending on whether I speak Italian or Finnish... Hope you enjoy!
    How would YOU say those things in YOUR language(s)?
    Let me know in the comments!

    Enjoy your holidays and see you next year!

    I get that you're leaning heavily on stereotypes, but still... your portrayal of the Finnish way to express feelings is head on! Of course there is variation, people are individuals, but I have used and heard every one of those phrases myself. They really capture the deeply entrenched melancholy that is part of our cultural heritage :D Sama suomeksi: Kyllähän tuon katso.

    Ten years a go I was with six native Finns at Heerlen Netherlands. We went to restaurant and take beers and played cards while waiting food. We spoke loudly Finnish. One of us was blond and others brown or dark haired. We noticed that locals we talking and guessing where we are from. When it was time to leave we asked them to make gues where we are from. A Welsh speaking Welsh man from Cardiff here, learning Spanish. This video is so good! Funny and accurate, from my experience anyway! Grazie! In the early 2000s, I worked in an office in Dublin within a multi-cultural / multi-lingual team. My friend Juha is from Finland, another, Silvia, is from Italy, just outside Rome, Roberta is from Rome itself and Luisa from Sardinia. Tanya and Martina from Germany. Rosario and Miguel are from Spain (Rosario from Andalucía and Miguel from Segovia. Gábor from Hungary. Juha was the funniest man, yet very deep and a good soul. But yes, a man of few words, even when you knew how passionate he felt about a subject. Each Italian had a different way of expressing themselves! Silvia is so laid back, Roberta is wonderfully crazy... It was a great place to work. I'm in touch with most of my colleagues from then, thanks to social networking! Thank you for this! Grazie! @@DNA350ppm : Great to hear, kiitos! I thought about this a little further and came to a conclusion that when it comes to _deep feelings_of Finns, less is more in Finnish. And really tiny nuances count. And the silence speaks volumes, too. In finnish, there are different kinds of silence. A loving silence is an evidence of trust and love. "I'm comfortable and trust you enough to be silent". Then there's this hostile silence, "I'm not going to waste my words with you". Mykkäkoulu it's called in close relationships, but it can occure in other situations too, but it's tiny bit different. But nevertheless, silence speaks volumes.
      And no matter how much words anyone produces from their mouth, we human beings interact 90 % on other levels than spoken words. It's amazing and frustrating at the same time.

    Mielenkiintoisia videoita ja hauskojakin. 😁 Totta tuo kulttuurin vaikutus kieleen. Omasta mielestä suomen kieli on kehittynyt aikojen saatossa omanlaisekseen, varsinkin tunteiden ilmaisussa. Entisaikoina ihmiset elivät pienemmissä piireissä ja tunsivat toisensa ja tapansa, eli tarkoitan, että suomen kielessä tunteiden ilmaisua ymmärtääkseen täytyy tuntea toinen entuudestaan henkilökohtaisesti. Universaalisti ihmiset eivät näytä tunteitaan suoraan, ne verhotaan omalla tavallaan joka kulttuurissa, siis näin itse ajattelen. Vastakohtana suomen kielelle on yhdysvalloissa puhuttu englanti, jossa melkein kaikki ihmiset ovat jostain muualta ja eri kulttuureista. Olisiko siitä kehittynyt se smalltalk? It is much easier to say I love You than minä rakastan sinua. 🤔

    Salve. Sai anche scrivere/leggere il giapponese ed il cinese o solo parlare? Mi hanno detto che la grammatica di queste lingue non è troppo difficile, il problema è la scrittura.

    • @linguaEpassione
      @linguaEpassione  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ciao! Il giapponese so anche leggerlo e scriverlo (anche se limitatamente a circa 1300 ideogrammi - l'ideale sarebbe 2000++), mentre di cinese ho solo conoscenze orali di base, ma devo dire che gli ideogrammi giapponesi aiutano a capire un certo numero di caratteri cinesi. La grammatica giapponese non la definirei semplice, quella cinese invece sì, per lo meno all'inizio / intermedio. Poi tutto si fa più complicato :)

    And for your information - our finnish language has long been our protection. A foreign person is easily identified as soon as he/she opens his/hers mouth. You may well understand this joke: in the wartime, the enemy sent paratroopers "desantti" to make harm in the home front. So often some people were arrested, and their guilty was about. The simple finnish first interrogation question was: "say the first three numbers!" ie yksi-kaksi-kolme. If the output was yksi-kaksi-kolme, that guy was freed. But if the output was juksi-kaksi-kolme - the deem was: to be shot - next!

    Are you finnish? Because you didn't have an accent (like most of the people who learn finnish do), and it sounded like it was coming from a finnish mouth. This is coming from a finn, keep up the good work 🤟🏻🤟🏻
