When my cousin got Streets Of Rage 2 in early 1993, the 1st thing we did when the game started we went straight directly to the options menu. We were dying to listen to the soundtrack and we were amazed of how awesome & badass it was. Yuzo Koshiro delivered another memorable soundtrack which is considered one of the best video game soundtracks of all-time.
Yes! Used to play this all the time with my dad and my sister. I was always Axel, my dad was Max, and of course my sister was always Blaze when she played. Nothing brought a family close like video games back in the day.
Streets Of Rage 2! Excellent game but, what it's all about for me is the SOUNDTRACK!:) Yuzo Koshiro-san has created a masterpiece here!~alot of great memories with this game.
You can play "mania" if you use the menu cheat... My brother and I played on mania with maximum lives. We spent all continues, he died in the final room and it all came down to me... last life, last sliver of energy, last special move on Mr. X. We jumped out of our seats cheering, GREATEST PLAYTHROUGH EVER
RickyC's freakin' awesome with that game. All the times I've played SoR2 and videos of SoR2 I've seen, that video takes the cake! Great game, and excellent job in beating hard mode!
I just recently got sega mega drive ultimate collection for the ps3 and all I've been playing at the moment is streets of rage. I'll never forget the good times when I used to play this game by myself and with my brother.
@@locobandito7389 Streets Of Rage 2 is beyond fine, While there are a few beat em ups that tried to do more, not have the same finess as SOR2. Seeing as you presume there is a better one, I would like to here your suggestion.
*Hear, not here. My biggest problem with SoR2 is the sounds when you hit people. Sounds so thin, like hitting a paper bag. Even the sfx in SoR1 were more satisfying, had more umph. Also, the characters are all corny, early 90's cheese. Better beat em ups: TMNT, TMNT: Turtles in Time, Battletoads Arcade, The Punisher, Double Dragon 2, Streets of Rage 1 To be honest, I have warmed up to SoR2 since I made that post. I really enjoyed the 3D 3DS port.
Pure perfection this game. It belongs in my top 5 ever game list. When I play this I finish it, it never gets boring, so addictive like most Sega games.
When you walk into Abadede, the Ultimate Warrior guy, how do you ensure that you grab him and not vice versa? In fact, you seem to be pretty good at being the thrower and not the thrown when walking into enemies. Is there a trick to that?
+Roland Desjarlais I so agree. I know this game could become even more better with a 4th one. Plus new Characters and boss's . IT Would so fit in into there storyline that they have been going with. Man I know it would be bad*ss and epic if they did make a 4th.
There's a game heavily inspired by the Streets of Rage franchise on Steam, called "The Takeover", check it out! store.steampowered.com/app/418620/The_TakeOver/
@red_buffy_blue Streets Of Rage 3 is awesome, my favourite 16 bit game. It's NTSC SOR3 that was too hard. Get the Japanese version "Bare Knuckle III". It's less difficult and uncensored. It has an extra boss fight too.
Axel and Skate are using the pipe with two hands (even Skate don't have power to do it properly) while Blaze is using with one hand and she damn fast with it. Babe's so powerful I love her
This, along side Ristar, Shinobi 3, SOR3, Vectorman, Bonaza Bros, Alien Storm, Gunstar Heroes, etc. proves that there are way better games than Sonic’s entire lineup.
Just a heads up, for any hardcore SOR fans who own a 3DS, you can have the quintessential single player SOR2 experience of a lifetime on that platform. The 3D is amazing because all it does is add depth to the playing field, so you can actually see exactly when you are lined up perfectly with enemies.. Plus it just looks great. Plug in some phones or a speaker, pump it.. put the 3D on ( i put it about halfway or just before).. and have a ball. Best of all though, the 3DS version mimics the 6 button controller layout of SOR3 but for SOR2 AND SOR1!!!. AFAIK, that's the only *official* emulation to do that, and not even the authentic genesis/mega drive release did that. That means one button throw items and reverse attack.. Modern joypad controllers are just not made with pressing two buttons simultaneously for special brawler moves in mind, so much so that in all other versions of SOR 1 & 2 I just avoid using the backwards attack completely as it's such a chore. With the 3DS I am able to make it an integral part of my game. This is why, for me, the 3DS version of SOR2 (and SOR1 incidentally), are the best of the best *emulations* available anywhere on any platform. I have no idea if it supports multi player via ad hoc, so can't tell you that.
When I was a kid I would play this with my father... we'd both play the campaign game.. fight.. do well.. but I would turn to the dark side and beat him senseless with the pipe.. them eat both turkeys so he die immediately from a single punch from one of the enemies. LOL! such good times.
Blaze is my favorite character in the SoR series especially in this game and the 3rd game. I like her grabs/throws and that blitz move where you tap the D-pad twice and use the attack button. She's better than Axel.
She's very well ballanced but she does not have Axel's technique to hold an opponent with punches until the opponent dies. She still can do it but its a bit difficult.
This comment is... 6 years old and people may change their viewpoints overtime. After watching a certain streamer play this game as different characters recently on Mania (1CC), I changed my perspective.
Man, the stage 4 boss gave you an easy ride. He didn't seem anywhere near as vicious as every time I've ever fought the big bastard. Molecule and Particle are the easiest beat em up bosses ever, especially for a brawl so far into the game. That ending along with the music makes my eyes all misty with nostalgia. Great vid. :)
*STREETS OF RAGE 4 exists.* It was on PS1 and developed as Streets Of Rage 4. Sega changed the name because CORE Designs wanted it ported on other systems. It's called *Fighting Force.* Check out the video by Teddy Rubskin called "Streets of Rage 4!?!". Very few people know about the game.
Blaze's jump kick from place (without forward arrow) is one of her best moves. The best way of hitting Jet when he charges you, Vehelits, Zamza's roll, Bikers as well. And it does massive damage compared with the front jump kick!
Blaze is my favorite character in SoR series. What is interesting Blaze is boy name (but some girls also have this name) which in old english means "flame", "burn". In Sacred 2 Fallen Angel Ascaron's Hack and Slash huge RPG I named my Seraphim Blaze Rhodon which means "burning rose" (rhodon is greek word, noble metal with atomic number 45 is named rhodium from rhodon and scientific study of roses is called rhodology).

+chuckobscure 2 has bigger sprites and more frames of animation. The new special move button is much better than the vehicle based specials that stopped the action for a long time. I think it's an overall much improved package.
SoR2 improved every single aspect of the first game (graphics, gameplay, sound, polish, level design, diversity, etc). It's one of the best sequels ever created!
It's all about how you approach your fights. Don't let them surround you, tech your falls when being thrown(up C), throw enemies into other enemies when they start to gang up on you. There's a 1-up behind the mailbox in the foreground at the very start of level 1. On stage 2, as soon as you get out of the truck go to the top left corner of the screen and there's another extra life.
I remember playing this all the time :( I always used to be the black guy, skate or something. The last time I played it I was 6 and I'm now selling this game on eBay.... gonna miss it :P reminds me so much of when I was a child. Now 13 years on I have a baby and girlfriend of my own. Never would have thought 13 years ago I would be where I am now. Times are amazing now, but I still miss my childhood... it was amazing :D
@argage145 It's a bit harsh to completely put down SoR3's BGM. As a whole, SoR2 is more memorable, but SoR3 does have some decent tracks as well. They are just in a different style; it was well ahead of it's time. The track to stage 1-2, Yamato's boss theme, stage 5-2 and the city hall theme for stage 7a are all strong tracks. The factory stage 7b compares to some electronica now. I would conclude some tracks are just as good as SoR2's, but not the whole lot.
Middle of stage 4, going down that elevator, how are some of those guys surviving that drop? Moreso when you consider that if Blaze so much as breathes on one of them, they die?
@Yuzoboy The soundtrack to streets or rage 1 and 2, rocket knight adventures (boss rush music) and sonic and knuckles rank as the best soundtracks on the megadrive and that era and even still sound great, shinobi 3 also has some great tracks.
