Do you guys know the untold history of this city.?
Pre Islamic Peshawar was Purushpur once capital of Porus/ Pururava king of Purushpur, after its under rule of Ghandara during Mourya time. During 2nd century great Kushana king Kanishka ruled it along with Pushkalavati as his eastern capital. Purushpur name derived from sanskrit "city of men" it's powerful ruler Pururava defeated Alexander.
The story of Alexander's defeat was really thrilling.......
Alexander the Great, after conquered Bagdad (old name babilonia) and most of the far East Europe and then marched towards east with high ambition to conquer India, he crossed HinduKush mountain & enter Ghandara ( present Kandahar) it's king Ambi was feared about his large army...he made agreement as friend, but the king of Peshawar ( Purushpur) Pururava/Porus not agreed to give ransom and decided to fight, Alex army went to Peshawar his large army had high hope to win tiny kingdom.........
war begins....Alex army was completely shocked and stunn by seeing large size animals in battlefield..!
Alexander conquered whole of Europe with his Cavalry and horsemen, but never saw a big battle tankers...!! ( Elephants used in battlefield was never known to Europeans..!!)
Pururavan army had 2000 elephants.....Alex army had well trained good quality horse and horsemen but 2000 drunken elephants began to run without seeing anything....anyone....
Alexander's worlds most good breed horse, horsemen literally feared, good quality horse were stamped by big size elephants...!! Half of his army run-off and they didn't like to destroyed...!!
and other half were dead, wounded, sick....
So, Alexander thought that it's better to stop battle and make understanding win between two, finally Porus accepted his words, after the defeat of Purushpur, Alexander feared and doubtful to Conquer & win Magada (India), he being said that the king Nanda had 2 lakhs army & in that he had 40,000 elephants in his army..! So Alexander feared about these battle "tankers" so he dropped his plan to conquer India.!!
So history proudly says: Alexander the great was first time defeated by King of Peshawar...!!
the power of the soil made Alexander to loose battle.
Once Peshawar was called as beautiful city of the earth. This is the olden history of Peshawar.
After that, Moghals, Persians, Marathas, Sikhas & Britishers ruled the city until 1947.
