    I found a sect I missed: the Rosebringers, given just a few sentences (page 124 of the Factol's Manifesto). They're devoted to filling the multiverse with the scent of roses and can often be found in the Hall of Speakers in Sigil.

    man I have been spending years trying to tell players that "evil" in D&D is defined by selfishness not selflessness (it was the dark sun "what do you do when there's only a certain amount of water left" breakdown of the morality axis that did it for me lol) - very cool to see this broken down here, too

    Thanks for this vid on the Sects. I've always loved the Ring-Givers and Merkhants. Fought against the Planes-Militant whenever I could.

    Dude, I'm so glad you had exact sources for each entry. I was very excited to learn more about these sects and you've made it easy to read up on the source material. Much appreciated!

    My goodness im old. I remember clearly buying the books for AD&D 2nd version brand new. Lady of pain, the planes, gods, proxys, factions. Wild stuff

      Nope. Sold all of em a few years (2 or 3) later after i had collected all of the campaign setting. I had all of it

    Awesome video! Thanks for doing the presumably absurd amount of reading and strategic CTRL+F you had to do so we didn't have to

    Thanks for the video. Been away from Planescape sinse the late 90's.Getting back into the campaign setting. Life is busy and this is a great way to relearn stuff while doing things in the real world. 8:54 love these guys as a threat to my PCs.

    Great video!
    One little correction though (and I hate to do it), The Illuminated are not a fan made sect, they are the antagonists in the module "The Eternal Boundary". I think that might be the only place they are ever mentioned in any of the official published material though, so it's easy to miss.
    I believe the intent was to flesh them out a bit more in later material, but I think that someone decided that they didn't really fit the flavor of the setting as much as the factions and other sects, so they just were never mentioned anywhere else. They also sort of served the same role as the Revolutionary League, being more or less a subversive group hiding in plain sight. The difference was that they were attempting to take control of the factions, and ultimately Sigil (I think), whereas the Revolutionary League wants to tear everything down.
    I don't believe they are explicitly referred to as a sect in the module (though I could be wrong, it's been a long time since I've read it), as that was one of the first bits of published material and the term sect as a distinct concept wasn't used until the second boxed set, "Planes of Chaos".

    • @WadeAllen001
      @WadeAllen001  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah, thanks! I came to the conclusion that they must be a fan-made sect because I couldn't find any official book that mentioned them. I'll have to check out The Eternal Boundary. I missed that one.

    Amazing video! Thank you so much for the research. I plan to make a campaign centered in the Outlands, and this video is a big help!

    Wade, can we get videos of each of the outer planes, please? Perhaps one of the outlands? Your videos are very well done and appreciated.

    My question is, how many times did you proof watch the video before uploading to make sure you said "sects" every time and that you didn't have a Freudian slip on "vile hunt"? 😂
    Love your DnD content by the way. I've rewatched the Mount Celestia video several times now.

    Great video. Just two nitpicks. Ascetic is pronounced either ah-SEE-tic or ah-SEH-tic and Sigil is pronounced SI-jill, not siggle.

    • @WadeAllen001
      @WadeAllen001  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      You're right that I pronounced ascetic wrong, but Sigil (the city) is pronounced siggle. Sigil (the word, synonym for glyph) is pronounced si-jill, but not Sigil the city.

    wouldn't the oposition be chaotic good?
    if they are doing this to help people improve and maintain the universe, that sounds like good intentions

    • @WadeAllen001
      @WadeAllen001  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There's more to morality than intention. In fact, the definitions of good and evil that D&D uses don't really care about intentions. Goodness isn't just being well-intentioned, it's being honest, charitable, and forthright (in 2e) or altruistic and having a respect for life and concern for the dignity of sentient beings (in 3e) or protecting the weak (in 4e) or helping people (in 5e). If you run a non-profit that helps cure children of mummy rot, the Opposition will bomb your facility. If you run a poison factory that is poisoning the water supply of a nearby town to turn the citizens into zombies, the Opposition will bomb your facility. Their reasons may sound good to you, but they still indiscriminately kill people. In fact, they preferentially kill the weak so that the strong can grow even stronger.

      Are you talking about the comparisons to real-world groups/philosophies that I do for each sect?

    • @afrokid69
      @afrokid69 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I dont hear any 'political takes', referencing real world philosophies helps give a clearer idea of who the sect is, great video in my opinion~
