Part 2 is coming soon! We have an amazing editor on the team and we plan to crunch it out in the next few weeks! Thanks for checking out the video, we look forward to seeing what you have to say about part 2.
An Atlantic Bluefin on Slow Pitch, damn. Great video guys. Only thing I would suggest is to maybe make a larger, wider jigs which might flutter more slowly in the low vis water. I always believe big baits get big bites.
Man we live for this!! And That is definitely something to consider. We do have some wider style jigs, our torpedo glider being one of them but I don’t think we brought any of those with us on this trip. Thankfully the sand eel did its job. What’s the biggest tuna you ever caught?!
@@JohnnyJigsTV thank you for the reply. That means a lot. You guys come to Key West often. I live close to Stock Island. Hit me up if you have time, the next time you venture out on the Yankee Capt. I’ll draw out a quick sketch. Maybe it will work. As for myself and tuna. Growing up here in KW we didn’t see much more than the good ole Blackfin tuna. Yellowfins are few and far between. As for Bluefin, it’s even harder. But I do have a few Yellowfin & Bluefin stories to share from these parts when we do cross paths. My biggest Blackfin on hook or by spear are as about as big as they get. I did shoot a Yellowfin on the Midnight Lump off Louisiana, prob 130#. It ripped-off my spear shaft about 30ft from me. Completely broke me heart. Thanks for reminding me ;) lol. But please reach out when you are here again. You guys turned me on to Slow-Pitch jigging and I love it.
We love to hear it my friend. When life gives you Jigs, drop em down deep 👌 it’s time ti get “hooked up baby”. 😂 What’s your go to jig? I like the one drop and the ultra flutter personally.
Nice Johnny Good to see you made it to the North Atlantic For the giant bluefin we have up here Hopefully you make us one of them specialized rods for up here We usually speed jig With rod's 5' to 5'2" With a sensitive tip but a lot of backbone The shorter the better
You guys gotta visit the lower part of Delaware one day where I’m from. 10 minutes away from ocean city marina and Indian. Straight shot out to the canyons, y’all would have a blast on my boat!!!
John, it was awesome to be there. What an incredible experience we had on the water. This trip was definitely one for the books. Any suggestions on where we should go next?! Maybe a swordfish on the jig?? 😂😂 that’s the ultimate goal anyway. Think we can do it?
I did my first Tuna fishing and I have no idea what do I need so I went ahead with catfish rod and was my best boat fishing where I caught 3 yellow fin tuna 80lb each
Lobster rolls are either Mayo (cold) or butter (hot). A hot buttered lobster roll is incredible. That said, johnnyjig rod & reel combos helped us crush tuna this year off of block!
Just an incredible experience! So many aspects were amazing to this fellow Florida boy! The waters, the whales, the bait and bird life, stripers, tuna, Great Whites….! Like you said, ‘ this ain’t no grouper or snapper…’ LOL! Great video of the whole experience, guys! Another bucket list trip goes on the roster, for sure. Great job and congrats! 🎣😁👍
You should definitely fish the outer banks in February and March. Lots of giant bluefin on jigs and topwater. Check out what Sami and the saltywater crew have done in obx
I’ll make sure to put that in my notes for the next meeting with the boys. Thanks Garrett!! When’s your next trip out? You know any time’s a good time to drop a jig 🐟
Did you guys ever get lost, when you left the airport? Looks like alot of the same thing I just encountered. Vid Looks great so far, happy for the new vid!!!!!
TSA hates fishing rods!!! I flew to Cabo and when I got there my rod tube sounded like a rain maker 😞 , really enjoy talking to one of the guys in your shop when I ordered some jigs your staff is great 👍👍👍
Good stuff! Would have been cool to hook it on the slow pitch setup! been binge watching your channel lol trying to get a 300lb southern bluefin on the slow pitch setup here in Australia this season (very short window in Sydney) but only managed to get a few 150lbers on the troll. Next season maybe😂
I only saw the report and pictures, I tried to attach a link but it was not allowed.. Trying again th-cam.com/video/dAaNL8JWP8s/w-d-xo.htmlsi=cj3GbAcx2elH0JQi
Haha I can tell you one thing, it sure was an incredible experience. Thanks Charles, next time we’ll make sure to get hooked up with on the right set up. Have any suggestions on where we should go next?
The whales had us awestruck, even our camera guy was blown away 😂 this was definitely an awesome life experience. Unfortunately we didn’t have it weighed. That was the plan originally but that idea faded after the shark encounter 😂 You think it would have still been worth putting in the scale?
Could have been gentler with the released bass. Hoisted on hook and slammed on deck, gill holds, some released upside down floating, bloody gills in the first one guaranteed to be dead.
It was scaring the sh*t outta me every time I saw someone reaching into the water to land or release a fish. Awesome fish, glad everyone came home with their hands!
There will be a lot less hand in water action happening the next time we venture out to The Cape. That great white was enough to learn my lesson. Grateful to have our hands, and grateful to have such a supportive and caring audience like you. Thank you, Phillips! Where should we drop our jigs next?
Captain got the hit because he was cranking at warp speed. Even though the conventionals take up a lot of line per crank I don't think they can compete with a spinner at ripping a lure thru the water. That long handle is great for torque but not speed. Did you travel all that distance for the one trip out?
What a great guy captain Matt is!! We really look forward to chartering again with him in the future! I’ll make sure to check out your video but I gotta ask on a scale from 1-10 how scary was the shark 😂
Ha not too scary we get sharked so much ...This one was only about 12ft but he jumped out with the bass ..classic great white juvenile..Now those 20ft sharks make you pause and say what the F... am I doing out here in my 20ft boat lol@@JohnnyJigsTV
Check out the fish Sami Ghandour from Saltywater tackle. He’s landed BFTs up to 600lbs on spinning gear and has his own line of spinning rods and jigging rods that are purpose built for fighting massive bluefin.
I mate on an offshore boat out of Oregon inlet NC, y’all wanna give this area try on the jig get up with me. My captain and I would love to get some more clientele who would rather do this than troll all day for a tuna that’s gonna get eaten by a shark 😂. Pretty work!

We do also have a plethora of wrecks with wreck fish and what not on them but like I was saying it’s tough talking someone who doesn’t know how cool it is to drop instead of actively troll.
if you guys thought those lobster rolls were good you gotta try popponesette next time best lobster rolls on the cape 3 times the size of the one you had

Glad to see that the North East finally got the love it deserves on Johnny Jigs TV! Stop messing around with those baby tuna out in CALI, and, come out to Jurassic Park more often! Lol great job fellas! --Dom from RI ⚓️
It’s so funny you say that Chris and I (Johnny) had that exact conversation in the Cape before we went offshore. We did discover that the largest one CAUGHT was 1500 pounds, but despite the largest fish being caught by rod and reel being only 1500 lb. according to NOAA bluefin tuna can reach up to 13' and 2000 pounds. Would love to read a fish story. What is the biggest tuna you have caught?
True. But you can't target the whites anymore. You aren't even supposed to bring them to the boat if you hook one. But you can get a rough weight on them based on the length and there are absolutely some 2,000+ whites swimming off the cape.
We should have known this was a possibility, but we got so caught up in the hype and thrill of the moment that a great white encounter just wasn’t on our mind at the time 😂 but next time we have a giant strapped to the boat we will make sure to put a camera on it at all times 😂😂
Only got 2 months to get at least a small tuna unfortunately my gear is not here yet they seized everything at the airport, and i have to pay half the price of the gear to get it LMAO they think I'm a f..l
@kylewebster148 there still conventional reels. Yes, they are cumbersome. In my opinion. I've used both. You are fighting the awkwardness of keeping the reel in the up position. No my thing.

Honestly, I have not personally fished it on the west coast, but Chris Doyle landed a bluefin on one.
